It doesn't need to be Japanese. I just like that it's both pretty chill but musically interesting. Most of the other stuff I know of that gets crazy with time signatures and rhythms and whatnot is really... metal-y, I guess, so I don't want that.

Also I really like the tone on both the guitar and bass.

A bunch of other Jazz dudes might also work for you, but Ponty is my personal favorite. Herbie Hancock is also very good but very keyboard-oriented.

@Reznik - To begin, Uchyuu Conbini (and many bands Japanese and non-Japanese bands like them, like the above TTNG) are heavily inspired by the Japanese band toé. I would think you're probably aware of them if you're listening to Uchyuu, but you never know. Bands of this sort are commonly classified as "Math Rock", whereas similar-but-more-metal bands will usually be referred to as "Prog-Metal".

For a good example of US Math of the sort you're looking for, I'd recommend Stage Kids, who definitely lean towards the chill side of things and incorporate a fair amount of soundscapes and whatnot:

Generally, Math Rock can be pretty easily confused with what some might call "Post Rock" or "Jazz Fusion", so it's not surprisingly to see Auralynx suggesting some Jean-Luc Ponty and Herbie Hancock. In the States, a lot of contemporary Math takes its cues from groups like Don Caballero (who sort of became Battles) and Tortoise. As such, you get stuff like Chicago's Renaissance Sound, who recorded a couple EPs as a conservatory project:

And lastly, there's a good amount of shared development between Math and Emo, so you might want to look into stuff like American Football or a more contemporary group like The Speed of Sound in Seawater.

And melodically, I think there's a likeness to Explosions in the Sky there, but Explosions don't do so much of the fast-fingers guitar stuff or get quite as rhythmiscally intense. Or maybe they do, I only have one of their records...

I was driving around and thought of a few more groups to suggest.

The UK's Math Rock scene is generally more like Foals than This Town Needs Guns, by which I mean that the songs tend to have a more stable rhythmic pulse (almost danceable) and rely on simple melodic figures spread across multiple instruments and layered in shifting systems of harmony. So, if you are a person that likes Foals, you'll probably like bands like Enemies or VASQUEZ:

If you like things a little heavier (i.e. more "metal") but in a similar mode, Brontide has your back:

And if you like things more on the Jazz spectrum, Mahogany Hand Glider is pretty swell:

And lastly, if you're poking around /r/mathrock or just doing a search for Math Rock, you're likely going to stumble across some more abstract and discordant groups, generally from the US. A lot of this goes back to post-punk and post-handcore laying some of the framework for today's Math Rock groups, and is probably best exemplified by Don Caballero's What Burns Never Returns. That said, one of my favorite bands going right now is boyfrndz, who make really hazy, frenetic, and almost poppish songs that are probably not what the OP is looking for, but still worth mentioning.
