There was a Zelda 2 speedrun race done recently at the Gamesdonequick charity event last month, that was very glitchy and still highly entertaining to watch.
Glitchy stuff is super entertaining to watch, at least for me, and especially if people explain what's going on.
Just seeing those crazy Ocarina of Time in 5 minutes things without knowing what's been done is indeed boring.
Am I the only person who regards "glitch" runs about the same as slapping in a gameshark and using the code for level warp?
It's about as fun to watch.
I hear that a lot, but there's lots of people who really enjoy stuff like that, too. That's why people do speedruns of games both with and without glitches. Personally, I find both really entertaining.

They're not exactly punching in the Konami code here. Even if you don't think they're fun to watch, you should at least respect the skill and effort that goes into "glitch" speed runs.
A lot of the major any% speedruns are the result of months or years of persistent efforts on the parts of an entire community to try to discover the most optimal route through the game. People use specialized tools to pick the game apart and figure out everything about how its internal logic works in an effort to discover vulnerabilities that can be leveraged to complete the game faster. It's an impressive collaborative effort to discover these exploits.
Even after a major glitch is discovered, the setup required to actually perform the glitch in a real run is often volatile and incredibly difficult (requiring frame perfect timing on numerous consecutive inputs, for example), with a single mistake at a critical point in the run possibly destroying the entire attempt. Many any% speedruns will employ multiple glitches, any of which could be a point of failure that kills the run.
And for what its worth, I think that any% glitch runs are if nothing else a fascinating glimpse into the nuts and bolts of what is actually going on under the hood of all your most beloved videogames, and how even the most seemingly well made and polished games are only a few button inputs in the right place away from being utterly broken.
Perhaps a good example of this comes from the Grumps themselves, everyone seemed to particularly enjoy Ross's speedrun of Skyrim through glitches (and Macho Man Randy Savage dragon mod).

Yeah, the thought that causing a computer error could be hard really doesn't make it any more entertaining to watch.
But it sounds like this is one of those things that is not "for" me.
...or at least have them trick Danny to be in the room with it. But then again there will be a Dan shaped hole in the wall as he runs straight through it when he realizes Kevin locked the door.
based on their plays of the other 2, they'll probably be more confused by this one and be flailing around more than usual

No, keep Danny away from horror games from now on.
Until Silent Hills. Don't want him building up a resistance or something...

If Silent Hills is anyhting like PT, I don't think there's enough horror content in existence that would make up build up a resistance to what will be experienced in that game...
Everyone has a price. Throw enough gold around and someone will risk disintegration.

A better example from the Grumps is Sonic Boom where they literally used a glitch to sequence break the game and effectively skip like 4 hours of game and a chunk of the story. Then they spent like 3 episodes marvelling at how broken it was without realizing they were the ones who broke it by doing what they did. Luckily they eventually stumbled onto a map load location so the game could fix itself.
Opty on

Wow. I made it about 2 minutes in before I shut it off.
Depends on the glitches imo. It's interesting to see what made it into these games and can be impressive to watch if it's difficult to do
I saw a Mega Man 8 speedrun where the player was using the Mega Ball to do ridiculous shit, like creating and jumping on them in midair in rapid succession to ascend a vertical shaft in seconds.
Oh, and you can also apparently use it during the jet snowboard sections to effectively fly.

like I said. Funny when you are a teen and don't know any better, but once you grow up a bit, its not that funny.
He definitely appeals to the lowest common denominator.
Runner explains clearly what's going on, and the finish is flabbergasting.
Also, it's SOTN, so automatically cool.
I fucking love this kinda thing. Seriously. It's the diametric opposite of shoving a Game Genie, in that it demands an unearthly amount of knowledge and mastery of the game. Sometimes is actually much harder than doing it "the right way".
Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
Speed runs are the hypest thing for me. I enjoy watching them just break games

The Grumps should play Catherine. I want to see Dan freak out at the weird imagery. That...and the main character looks a bit like Dan. Be a fun game if they can hold it together long enough to solve the puzzles.
Catherine is bit hard though as a game, some of the levels are down right maddening the first time through.
there is also one technique in the game that is essential and really helps in the early game as well, but you don't learn how to do it till a ways in.

Dan couldn't grok lob shots in Kirby's Dream Course. You keep the poor boy away from the harder stuff (that isn't 2D).

I think some people are unfairly dismissive of any% speedruns, and I've already said my piece about it. That's all.

I'm an absurd completionist though, so it can be borderline physically painful to watch them; particularly ones for games I love like SOTN.
They are definitely better for me if they are games I have not played, or don't intend to.
