For me it's not even the "real gamers" thing, it's that normally military shooters just don't appeal to me. I don't like the themes they portray and it's compounded by the fact that I have a shitty sense of direction and using spend my time spinning in circles lost trying to find the next goal. I still find the campaign of BLOPS2 to be something that doesn't appeal to me though.
I just think it's funny that "'real' gamers don't like COD" is so ingrained in our little subculture that even when we praise it, we still feel the need to shit on it a little. Kinda like the music snob who only listens to pop "ironically".
Having been a part of the PA CoD thread for a long time, we all tend to bitch and moan about everything in the game, yet still put 40+ hours into the multiplayer. Ghosts may have been the game though that "broke up the band", although multiple new console releases and other shooter options helped in that decision.

The community is usually pretty fucking awful in the COD games that it could easily be a reason why he avoided them. I absolutely love the concept of League of Legends/DoTA2 but I don't play them at all because of the environment. If there was a place I could play that game with less assholes then I'd enjoy the hell out of the game.

I don't like CoD...but then I'm not a huge fan of FPS games.
I honestly the only FPS games that I have liked are the Prime Trilogy and the first Red Faction.
I'll admit, it's more of a casual observation on my part, as I don't actively go into COD threads since I'm not into the series. It's just so rare that I see comments about COD that are completely positive. There's always some kind of negativity on the side.

Way back when I played Modern Warfare, I had a hard time telling who was a friendly and who was an enemy when playing the single-player mode.

I always saw CoD as the Michael Bay production of gaming. It's big budget, it's flashy, it's childish and full of explosions and racism. Everyone knows they are kinda terrible, but they sell like gangbusters anyway.
The games have a very loyal fanbase.
But yea, not my cup of tea. I have actually never played a CoD myself, but like I said, I don't like FPS and generally avoid the genre altogether.
It always makes me moderately sad when I read about someone who felt like growing up meant to stop being able to have joyful fun. It's such a backward aspect of society that somehow carefree abandon is somehow childish, that we're grilled from such a young age to 'grow up' despite it being an ultimately meaningless principal.
Granted, it is to a degree unavoidable, and I will readily admit to having to have relearned some of that silly letting go as I've watched my kids grow up and wanting to participate in that with them; but every time I notice myself pulling that 'you're to old for that' logic with my daughter if want to punch myself in the face.
Also, anyone that deprived themselves of a 3DS just is a terrible decision maker. :P
I went into Gamestop today looking to see what I could do with a gift card, and walked out with a new copy of Assassin's Creed IV for $20. Seemed like a good deal.

That's pretty cool. It's also under $17 on Amazon right now.

I grabbed it at the TRU clearance sale. My son was very excited as the pirate sea battles looked pretty great in the trailers.
Can someone educate me on Infinity? I swore I wouldn't buy into it, but the new Marvel and Aladdin sets have me really tempted. I assume that the Original set is all the equipment you need and then it's just adding toys? Are the new Marvel, 2.0 and stuff just add on discs that work with the same portal?
Damn that article really works as a Wii U sales device. Is the best deal still the Nintendo refurbs? I keep looking for deals in Canada, but $299 is all I can usually find.
Time and money means a Wii U purchase does not really make sense for me, but I cannot shake wanting one. I want to use that gamepad. I also really want to plan Wind Waker, ZombiU, and Shovel Knight.
Anyone completely digital with their Wii U purchases? I'm digital only with my Xbox One, but I figured discs would be the way to go with the Wii U.

The last physical game I bought was at launch. I have been pure digital since then and loved it. Especially with the USB hard drive to hold all my stuff. I wouldn't want to do it for an Xbox 1 though. Not at this stage at least. I can't trust a company that doesn't take all of its digital games forward.
I've got two digital games (Pikmin 3 and Game & Wario) and it definitely spoils me when I go to play some Mario Kart and the disc isn't in the slot. I don't realize it until after I click the quick-menu item for it. However, I do like discs since I can usually get them cheaper and then I don't have to worry about buying an external drive to store them all.
Digital for me tends to be games I know I will be playing over and over again with friends, while I'll grab physical copies of games that I will finish and be done with (for a while, anyway). So, Smash Bros. = Digital, but new Zelda = Physical, generally speaking. There are exceptions, like how my WiiU came with a physical copy of Mario Kart although I would have preferred the download.
I'm mostly all digital on next Gen systems. There are still a few games that are disc only, mainly from Activision, but it's pretty rare for me to buy physical anymore.

Nah. Next Microsoft console will be the Xbox Full Circle.

...yes, I know no one plays CoD for the story. I'm weird.
It's alright, I've barely touched Halo's multiplayer, I'm there for the campaign.
I'm sure I'm similarly weird.

And that for the most part sums up why all the doomsaying about Nintendo is always so hilarious.
They never stopped doing what they do best, and it's the same thing I always go back to them for.
They just make fun games.
That's really all I ever expected them to do and I've yet to be disappointed with any Nintendo console or handheld I've purchased.
