Nintendo verbatim recommends using an external hard drive with its own power supply. I went ahead and sank the money into a Toshiba something or other, same model as @Taramoor I forget which one we both have.
This isn't the kind of thing I'd want to take chances with because if the thing craps out on you, you lose everything.
I hate how all save data is tied to the game data in Wii U. There isn't an easy way to back up your saves besides doing some convoluted copying to system memory and deleting duplicate game data.
At least for the first Gargoyles Quest, the early game is brutal. It certainly gets easier as you get more powers, but that early few stages are pretty rough.
Honestly, it could be that I just played it so many times, maybe Demon's Crest is more difficult. I bought GQ1 on the 3DS a month or so ago and was just struck by how difficult it felt (though back in the day when I had it on the actual Gameboy I know I played through it multiple times); I bought and played the first few stages of Demons Crest on the WiiU last night, even after taking my Ambien and still breezed through them.
Either way, if anyone is concerned about it's Ghouls & Ghosts/Ghosts & Goblins lineage, even when the Firebrand games are difficult they're reasonably so. IMO anyway I suppose.
EDIT: To be totally honest though, the biggest problem with Demon's Crest is the constant need to go into the menu to switch your form/attack.
A lot of the early difficulty in those games is that you start so underpowered and you don't really know what to expect from the levels. I'm sure it gets much easier with repeated plays though since you know what attack patterns the enemies have and whether that's actually part of the ceiling or a demon monster going to drop down directly in front of you.

Yeah, I bought a Seagate drive that would've been very nice otherwise, but once the amount of data on it reached a certain point the WiiU couldn't power it long enough to do anything. Ordered a Y-Cable to try and fudge the system, but still didn't work. You just get a black screen and a warning about unplugging your USB Device, and you have to force the WiiU to shut down. Wound up losing a lot of nice save data.
Returned it and picked up a nice Externally powered HDD (This one) and it has been smoothing sailing ever since. Especially since Nintendo added folders to the system. I'd wait a month or so, though, since everything will be 50% off or better before the end of the year.
That is no knock against the game though, I like easy stuff sometimes, just playing through something at a good clip. It's a good series.
One of the hardest things about the GB one is that Firebrands hitbox is way bigger than you'd initially think; i.e. it's an actual box and not his sprite.
Once you get used to it and get a flight upgrade or two, the difficulty lessens a lot; but I think if someone had never played them they'd find it more difficult than your typical game.
However, this was generally true of most old GB games (hooooo TMNT and Castlevania: Adventure!)
Finally ordered my Wii U, it should be arrive in 5-7 days.
I'm psyched because I already bought MK8, a Wii VC Pro controller, and are going to be adding a few Wii VC games before transferring them over to my new U.

The GB one was probably harder just by virtue of having a small screen with sprites as large as they were, a lot of games suffered for that. You can move in every direction, and have to move in every direction, because you're hovering and latching onto walls and such. You do have to make leaps of faith and end up screwed in a spike pit.
Also, we should consider a new thread title to remind people that the deluxe promotion is ending in like two months. Buy what you can, and make sure you use those codes to redeem your store credit, because there's no guarantee that the codes will still work after the promotion ends.
Yeah, I'm thinking I'll probably nab like $100 in eShop credit within the next two months and go on a bit of a shopping spree.
I have done NOTHING with this since signing up, though I've downloaded several games. Where do I go to see what I have?
I've been waiting nearly 20 years for a proper Yoshi's Island sequel.
I actually never liked Yoshi's Island despite being a massive Mario AND platforming fan.
I know, I know, I'm a monster. I should give it another shot, is it available on whatever passes as the VC for Wii U (I'll be honest, I've never explored the shop on the WiiU, I'm too busy with the games).
Sort of; I think the GBA version is on Wii U VC. It was also an Ambassador Title, so either you were able to get it or you weren't.
What I played of Yoshi's Wooly World (with two players, and a red Yoshi!) was actually pretty enjoyable. From the demo, it really feels like it might be the sequel so many of us have waited so long for.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!

Was at best buy and saw Bayonetta on a big stand up aisle rack, with multiple copies on it. Almost walked out with a copy but apparently local laws prevent them from taking cell phone trade in for credit, so I have to go to a different store and a new game isn't in the normal budget.
Want to pick up a pro controller too, but that depends on how this credit is handled.

God dammit, why the hell does Costume Quest 2 not have Off-TV play?
Edit: Huh, guess it's coming later in a patch...
Yeah, Costume Quest 2 for the Wii U is lacking polish to say the least. The frame-rate goes weird frequently (such as opening a door). The battles are (kinda) playable, but the timing around extra damage & blocking seems strange compared to the on-screen circle.
I might leave it alone till a patch arrives. I loved the original and DLC (on PS3) but not very happy with it so far.
On the other hand, I've liked the start of Stealth Inc 2 so far.
Edit
After doing a bit more reading on the official forums, I'd actually go so far as to say the game is broken on Wii U. It seems to me that the frame-rate is messing with the battle timings. The battles work best if you ignore what's happening on screen and guess.
We also seemed to have missed a major cutscene. The characters were talking to someone, then suddenly fell out of a portal I didn't see them fall into. (though that could have been my kids pressing the skip cutscene button accidentally)
It sucks that the deluxe eshop promo ends for everyone in 2014. I just bought a brand new deluxe and I can' t get imagine that I'll get much use out of it, if any.

How do I know if I have a deluxe Wii U? That website says black hardware, 32g and a Nintendo Land game. Mine is black hardware and 32g but it came with Mario and the Luigi spinoff deal.

Any 32GB console should be considered a deluxe.

Since the OS has matured, there's a slew of games out now and soon which I want, and it's cheaper, I've ordered another Wii U today. Hopefully this one will play games, unlike the one I returned.
Friend vowed to get me Monster Hunter when I got the system, and I know I'll get Smash at the end of this month, but I have to pick between Bayonetta and Hyrule Warriors for the time being. Hmm.

Target has some buy 2 get 1 promo soon. Depending on what they have in stock you could try and get both.
If absolutely limited to one get Bayonetta 2. You'll get both 2 and 1, and as much fun as Hyrule Warriors is both with and without the DLC, Bayonetta 1 and 2 are better games in every way.
There's also a difficulty factor to consider. Bayonetta is a much more difficult game, which wants you to learn its combat system inside and out. However, it's got quite the deep combat system, which feels really cool to pull off well. Whereas Hyrule Warriors is a lot more easygoing, but also not quite as deep in terms of the combat system.
Both have a combat ranking system, at least in HW's Adventure map.

But you can get Bayo 1 & 2 for not much more than Hyrule Warriors by itself.
Hyrule Warriors is not even close to as good a purchase as the Bayonetta games unless you're either really offended by Bayonetta or a colossal Dynasty Warriors fan

No, being a big Zelda fan isn't enough by itself
Gotta disagree.
The Bayo demo didn't quite grab me but I've put a ridiculous amount of time into Hyrule Warriors already despite never playing a Dynasty Warriors game before.
Both games have their merits, it's quite possible that Bayonetta isn't your cup of tea.

It really depends on your preferences. If someone isn't going to get into all the depth of bayonetta they're not going to be as good a purchase because that's where 99% of the replayability lies.
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.

Even as someone who enjoys some mindless combat, like Assassin's Creed for example
Dynasty Warriors is too mindless
I don't know, there's not alot of games where I can just slaughter thousands of mooks while pressing a button.
While Bayonetta is a much better game, I don't regret buying Hyrule warriors, it's like a cookie-clicker: mindless relaxing fun.
(Although I have to admit that I'm much less frustrated with Bayonetta 2 then I was with 1, so I guess it's also quite relaxing)
Huh. I had no idea that game was going to be Yoshi's Island with a different aesthetic. I thought it was going to be like the Kirby yarn game, which I wasn't crazy about, since they didn't let Kirby use his signature gameplay mechanic.
You mean inhaling things and shooting them at other things? That's...that's in Kirby's Yarn, albeit he grabs them with yarn instead of inhaling.
He can't inhale them and copy their abilities in Epic Yarn, which he's been able to do for almost all of his standard appearances.
Kirby didn't get the copy abilities until after a few of his games had been out already. It's a part of Kirby games, but not the only part.
