Man I've gotten to the point where on the GC/Ixali turnins if it's like a CUL recipe with 6 ingredients, I'll just buy it. I've spent like 20 minutes getting ingredients to make one pastry fish and managing my inventory space long enough to get it made and it's just not worth it anymore. 2000 gil, 5 seconds, 150k XP. Done and done.

I'm almost broke because I just keep buying stuff. So I started levelling gathering stuff so that I can sell that and make money back when I gather over(Or, for instance, go for HQ on gathering and get 10 HQ and like 100 normal quality and just sell the normal quality)
Oh yeah, I was super frugal during my initial leveling, getting all my own mats wherever possible. I'm just nearing the home stretch, and it's getting to the point where I spent so much time comparing the cost of items on the MB to the teleport cost to a place I can get them to optimizing my routes for fastest/cheapest teleports, I just go fuck it, buy it, and spend all that saved time running a dungeon to make up the gil.
Also speaking of gil.
Last night I was making some level 1/5 crafting gear for a company member making their first foray into crafting. Accidentally made an extra hempen shortglove. I went to check to see how much I could offload it for and was fucking stunned to see them listing for 3-5k and the history showing at least a few people a day buying it and other similar items.
A thing that costs like 15 gil to make with vendor mats and about 8 seconds to craft HQ.
Needless to say I put it and a few other things up to see if anyone bites.
Ding 50 BLM immediately hit i85. Just gotta get my relic now!
edit - Just got flare; it's awesome that after so many hours into the game, some new abilities are still so exciting!
edit 2 - if anyone mains a BLM, I'd love some pointers. There are a lot of great abilities I'd love to understand how to use properly, as well as some I'm not sure if I should even keep on my skill bar (Thunder 1, Fire 2). Interface/UI/hotbar tips would also be appreciated! AMENDMENT: I got a ton of help in game. Thanks BLMs!

Wait you're not sure about Fire II? Use fire II. 3+ enemies, your rotation should be:
Fire III -> Fire II 'till 500-ish mana -> Flare -> And then you choose your own kind of(Some people like going transpose->blizz3->repeat, some go for the transpose->fire III ->flare -> mana pot -> flare ->transpose ->fire III ->flare. Or some variation there. Depends on the health of the enemies remaining) Also you can swift cast flare if you want. Any one of them.
Thunder 1-2 you can move somewhere crazy like ctrl-f3 or something, just in case you don't have the mana for 3 but want to apply the dot for the proc chance. Same with Blizz 1(If you are lacking mana but want to cast something and have an additional ice stack).
Grats. I don't main BLM but I know some of the mechanics. Thunder 1 you may still need for times when you get down-synced below having access to Thunder 2, I think I made a macro that has Thunder 2 and Thunder 1 in it to have both of them on one button. Fire 2 is for AoE situations, since you can't really chain cast Flare. I know there used to be a method to get multiple Flares off in a row, but that method was fixed. Now I think the most you can get is around 3 in a row with using an ether and the BLM MP regain ability whose name escapes me at the moment.
As for anything else, might have to wait for someone who knows more of the nuances of the job.
I think the most number of flares you can get in a row without transpose would be something like:
Fire III - Fire II -> Repeat 'till low-ish -> Flare -> Convert -> Flare -> MP potion -> Flare. Then if you have swift cast up maybe transpose-swiftcast Fire III -> Flare
Woke up at 3:30 in the morning, couldn't sleep. Fuck it, I'm gonna log on.

You get them from gathering lv 50 nodes on miner or botanist. Maybe lv 45 nodes too, I'm not sure.
But you decipher them, figure out the visual hint regarding the location. Dig it up, fight enemies, get loot. Sometimes there are other maps called unhidden I think, that appear as loot. These are Texa$.
edit:
You can buy them on the marketboard as well if you don't have a gathering class high enough. There's also an 18 hr cool down timer when harvesting one.

On the final tier I just stopped doing the turn in quests, I'd rather have more oak knots, it's far less effort and it's about 21 difference in rep. The turn in option was totally amazing though for the first few ranks

Yeah, you can gather maps from any node or fishing spot 40 or higher.
That's cool. I don't know why I thought Fishing spots didn't count. Good to know.
The thing about fishing is that you have no control over it, whereas with mining and botany you can just keep going until you get a peiste. Unless releasing fished maps doesn't start the timer, but I don't want to be the guinea pig.
I'm not sure about 'releasing' the maps manually with the new option, but if you keep a particular map in your inventory, if you catch another of that type you'll automatically not get it, and I know that doesn't start the timer, because I'd get the same map repeatedly while I was trying to get that damn titanic sawfish.
Fishing nodes only have 1 map in their loot tables. You fish at the node that gives the map you want.
This is correct, you fish at the right spot you get nothing but piesteskin maps (in terms of map types), you don't have a variety of map types per node like mining and botany.
It basically rakes me anywhere from 2-5 casts to get the map typically, although sometimes it will rarely take me longer.

Heh, you picked the one class where that's a hot-button issue.
On ACN if you really want to do one of the jobs over the other, then you can put your points directly towards that(Int for Summoner, Mind for Scholar). If you don't have any preference, you can split them between the two(15 in int, 15 in mind). That's pretty great for everything up to, like, the bleeding edge end-game content.

Interesting. I haven't actually tried that so I can't comment on how the numbers compare, though I'd be worried the flares would rip something off the tank before they've built up a good hate lead. Less of an issue if the tank's good at crowd control, of course; just seems like every time I goof on aggro it's because I underestimated flare.
And might I say, I love the Grimoire Wing. That's an immediate target for glamours.
