I actually kinda wish there was a 'ban list' for legendary items. You could just like, veto 4 or 5 from ever dropping on your character. Like strength daggers! Or Lidless Walls that roll perfect holy damage with intelligence! Or finding stupid any 1h crossbows on my Crusader.

Honestly, if it already isn't coded into the game, dumb loot should have a ban list where stat combos that aren't used by any class (ex. int item with holy damage) cannot be rolled.

I also wouldn't mind them putting in some effort and making it so that current items, with a legendary affix that only one class use, could only be equipped by that class. Thus removing it from the smart roll table, if for some half-assed reason, that blizz hasn't already done so (it's hard to tell if that's the case since one gets a certain percent of dumb loot rolls).

    build21.jpg

So this is my current PTR pet doctor build.

Rain of Toads: Damage still crap, but still the best proc rate that WDs have. Used to trigger Ess of Johan and proc fetishes.
Provoke the Pack: Stacks up to 5 times at 20% a stack, so effectively doubles my damage output as long as I have dogs to feed into it. Also does decent damage, crits for about 35 mil.
Legion of Daggers: these guys are tougher than my normal fetishes, and thanks to my shoulder and chest pieces do an additional 30% damage. Since they fixed the FA/FS bugs, these now stack nicely for a total of 23 fetishes.
Healing Journey: Mandatory escape spell, also heals a bit.
Frightening Aspect: Gives permanent 100% armor bonus, and with the Tiklandian Visage perma fears all enemies. This is absolutely critical at higher rift levels (25+) since it prevents my fetishes from getting killed.
Boogie Man: Turns 50% of all enemies killed into zombie dogs, which are immediately sacrificed to boost/deal damage. Also provides a nice attack speed buff to fetishes, allowing their hits to work with SMK and reset cooldowns. With 23 fetishes at work it can reset very quickly.

    Grave Injustice: Cooldowns
Pierce the Veil: Free damage sicne this build has no real mana spenders
Fetish Sycophants: Standard WD damage dealers
Spirit Vessel: Gives a bit of cooldown to Spirit Walk and Horrify, helps to avoid backtracking deaths in longer Grift levels.

    Notable Gear:
SMK: Most important. Lets me keep up permanent dog generation with BBV and constant fetish armies.
Homunculus: Spawns a new dog every four seconds, so I rarely go into a new fight without getting an immediate 60% damage boost. Between this and Boogie Man it's easy to get 5 stacks up during any mid to large size fight.
Strongarm Bracers: Lets Ess of Johan's pull give a damage buff, so an extra 30% damage bonus for 5 seconds as things get bunched up.
Unity: Bonus Elite damage, 50% Damage Reduction
Buff Belt: Just dropped, bonus 25% move speed is useful for low-density grifts
Tiklandian Visage: PermaCC and Elite affix suppression. Keeps fetishes alive. Stops enemies from escaping BBV and Ess of Johan's radius

Altogether it's a good balance of survivability and damage. Having to trade Jeram for Tiklandian hurts the damage output, but it's compensated for by having a bonus 100% damage from Provoke the Pack.

The build is weakest against Rift Guardians and other enemies that can't be feared, like Rockworms. The Rift Guardian Perendi in particular can completely fuck this build over because at Grift level 30 he can kill an entire army of fetishes in 3-4 hits, and once he's summoned there are no additional enemies around to produce dogs.

In a multiplayer build I'd have to swap out Unity for possibly one of the new 5 primary-stat rings that has a socket in it.

Legendary gem wise I'm thinking Enforcer for pet damage, Moratorium for damage reduction, and Bane of the Trapped for increased damage. Need to play around with those still.

Some way to influence drops and game them towards what you want would be a welcome addition.

I think it'd be cool if you could obtain some kind of item, like a Fate's Cube or something, which has storage, and when you put an item in it, the game slants the items you find towards that item type or legendary.

Or, instead of salvaging a bad roll of a legendary you want, you can elect to have one of your NPCs 'burn' it, destroying the item, but dramatically increasing that item's chance to drop again for some length of time.

The new Crusader set seems so boring to me. "Put these on your toolbar and your damage and attack speed will go up", real exciting. It's like when they wanted throw barbs to be a thing so they just added the Three Hundredth Spear.

I don't have firebirds or anything but Yeah I can't wait for this thing to be playing Diablo again

I should hopefully, post patch, be able to do roughly the same content on my wizard as on my crusader, which is going to be amazing. Wizard is always gunna be my greatest love. Crusader is fun and all, but just isn't the same.

Think I'm pretty close to a Tal Rasha full set too, although nowhere really close for firebird unfortunately.

I like doing poison damage (reminds me of d2 necro) and I like having pets, but it sure doesn't seem optimal. I also have a jade chest and a Zuni head in stash, if that helps. I feel my damage is OK but I may have sacrificed to much survivability to get there (in t4 and up it takes just one or two ticks of whatever to gib me).
I will have to switch out of my current mana dump after patch since it becomes non poison.

For a while I was gambling on gloves in hope of t&t and then I got that jade that's in there now.

I just... Don't know which direction to take it.

Gamble helms for a Jeram (pets)/Quetzalcoatl (with Jade set), or gamble legs/chest to try to finish Jade. You're trying to get a RROG too right?

Could also gamble offhands for a Uhkapian Serpent for some damage reduction with dogs.

Finally gambled myself an Angel Hair Braid! Now my Crusader can actually kill rift bosses in an acceptable amount of time. Revenge spam is about 25m dps, which I find is an acceptable level, although it still takes me a minute or so to drop a rift boss on T4. Acceptable, but not great. I need some kind of 2hander that lets my Blessed Shield chain to enemies it's already hit or something!

The biggest downside to Shield Bash is its slow ass animation and low damage compared to a crazy Darklight/Firestarter build or something, this directly helps that. And with Shattered Shield you get basically most of the screen in your cone. I'm excited for it, I love Shield Bash builds.

    I love shield bash

That set is alllmost tempting enough to make me want to main crusader

Unfortunately, I'd have to start from scratch it being brand new, and given that my crusader doesn't have a RORG and my wizard does, I am more inclinded to set hunt on the wizard.

Plus she already has a few pieces of Firebirds and Tal Rasha's.

I need to stop visiting this thread. Its making me want to play now, rather than waiting for the patch to drop. Really crossing my fingers its within the month, september is a nightmare month for me and itd be nice to have the desire for this more out of my system.

The 2H he is using is bugged and artificially increasing his attack speed. It's still great with Sweep and Golden Flense, though! Just don't expect quite that much attack speed.

I have a banked quetzal. I like having current oh because I always have mana shortage and the huge gold radius helps with the passive that restores mana and cooldowns.

Hmmm, maybe I'll try to finish jade, could load up on the two dots then (poison version of both exists right?).

So in response to everybody going nutso over Vigilante Belt becoming basically a monk item as it's the only belt with CDR, they are reverting that change and moving the "double mystic ally" leg text instead to The Crudest Boots and making Vigilante a normal belt again that rolls CDR

I have that compass rose set to make up the CHD loss of not having a socketed weapon. I feel like most of pieces are not optimal and I should work on them, mainly a straight dmg affix instead of ele% on the amulet, a better phys roll on the bracer, armour instead of ms% on the boots and fa dmg% on the chest and/or mojo. I put in my 2 cents about rimeheart, I really hope they turn it into a cold build defining weapon because cold is just awful right now. the only class that can really use it is a DH with kridershot next patch.

people are still complaining that they never should have changed the proc, but I guarantee these people are 100% monks because on live rimeheart is total garbage for any other class.

Frozen Orb was an overpowered skill - it just so happens that the T6 viability of a skill is determined entirely by the existence of a top-tier legendary/set bonus that plays off it, which is an entirely separate thing. That doesn't mean they shouldn't nerf skills which are just obviously superior in raw numbers though.

Ended up playing quite a bit tonight after all, and pretty glad I did. Relatively bare all night for the most part, but I got two good pieces.

    x1dcrp31d56h.jpg

The pinion puts me at 1 firebird item away from a full set. Which goes for every wizard set, actually. I'm 1 away from all 3. Firebird pants and Vyr pants will do me for both, so that's where my blood shards are going atm.

The magefist is basically perfect as far as what natural stats it dropped with, even if they're all low rolls. Got really lucky and roll 10% crit on it 2nd try. Feeling pretty good about it.

Might play some more tomorrow, may not. Haven't fully decided yet how much more I'll play before the patch drops. I'd really like a full firebird set before then, though, but also I'm sick of farming up rift shards.

880% damage to a large area for 30 arcane power with no cooldown is an overpowered skill no matter how you look at it. I don't see what's "idiotic" about keeping skills balanced at their base level of functionality. Why would you expect raw Frozen Orb to be competitive with skills that are buffed out the wazoo with min/maxed legendaries?

  • JarsJars Registered User regular

it's not competitive. at all! I already showed you an example of where frozen orb does a fraction of the damage of what an end game set+weapon does. on my crusader with fotf I can spam a 2900% damage attack. but oh no that 880% damage frozen orb is too strong(by the way the damage on frozen orb wasn't changed at all, it still does 880% damage). that's lunacy. frozen orb in its previous state was easier to do damage with and a better chill effect. the damage was the same. and said damage does not compare at all to any end game builds. it never did, frozen orb was never really usable past t4.

do you realize how inane what you are saying sounds? no, of course not. another day in zek land. never used a skill, has no idea how good it actually is, needs to be nerfed for some dumb reason. and blizzard gave in to people like you, and wizard is a worse class because of it. good fuckin job.
