So, I finally got my seasonal witch doctor up to 70. Anyone have some links to some gear and skill guides? I found some but them seem outdated and I don't want to get gear that is no longer good.
I don't play a WD, but the sidebar guides on Reddit seem to be pretty well put together. Hopefully someone that has some WD experience can confirm.
So my season toon managed to land a second piece of the Akkhan set. Goodbye hexing pants, hello being able to slot slash into my build finally (running he 20% to crit slash, since I'm still fire - 20% fire cindercoat with 30 CDR to fire, 17% fire reaper's and IIRC the amulet had somewhere around 19% fire). Plan is to get the set gloves next, drop roland gloves, cindercoat and my fire pieces. I've got the Roland chest (rolled well for a Condemn build, since it has 14% to condemn, 3 sockets, str and I think vit or AR as the final stat), so I can still keep the 2pc bonus (helm is my other roland piece), get 4pc Akkhan bonus, go to a holy setup (I've got a decent amulet that just needs a socket, no elemental damage either, sadly. Also have a sad pair of strongarms, 21% bonus damage and no holy damage, but could add it if I can do better). BTW, pants rolled 2 sockets, str, vit and AR IIRC. So play with secondary stat or is slash damage worth getting in a condemn build setup?
Next time, I get a skywarden, I'll give that trick a shot, but it sounds like a bug. So I wouldn't get too attached. I also tend to prefer to do rifts in a party, so that's another point against because I seriously, doubt the rest of the party will want to wait for skywarden to it's thing and I'm pretty sure most of us would need the all resist law, since the lps one works as advertised and we usually need Valor for wrath management or extra dps.
Sneakman, petsader is fun. More fun than murder horse, but the AI is still pretty bad and it has some AoE issues. Totally T6 viable and probably one of the faster ones, but in the upper grifts and sometimes with T6 maggot brood elites, those issues become a huge liability.
To add to what Mill said it's great for farming T6. If you watch manner cookie at all he runs a bowmen build so he doesn't lose any of his important gear since he only plays HC now. Since you're letting your bowmen do all the work you have ample time to run around and loot, which matters since you want your bowmen doing their thing as often as they can while you keep Harrington's up so they're hitting for 20mil+ crits. With eight archers plinking away for those numbers the pet build is really nice on T6. Grifts you lose the Harrington's so that alone sort of kills it past tier 30, but it's still fun seeing how high you can push it against the 15minute timer.
Yep, I watch MannerCookie all the time and the bowmen build just annihilates T6 even without Akkhans set. Once I get the ring I will definitely be farming rifts with it. I honestly thought it would be a stronger build for Grifts considering you don't have to be in melee range and are thus safer.
It get screwed by pet AI being bad and lack of reliable AI. I know someone has mentioned dropping Baleful for Furnace. With falling sword rise brothers and enough CDR, one can get three tanks from that for max up time and more damage on elites. Not sure if a better AI, better AoE with Furnace would be on par with Stampede. I'd think a build with baleful, would fair better that gives the build more control via pets that can do both damage and tie up mobs. Stampede has a huge advantage in that it's not just a range build, it's a build that brings reliable CC (knockback doesn't work on RGs, but it still stuns them).
So if I was trapped somewhere today with my laptop and bored out of my mind and really wanting to play something like Diablo 3 but can't play Diablo 3 because its still online only, what would be the cheapest next best thing for a fun time killer?
If it has to be cheap, Titan Quest is on sale right now for -75% off on Steam and costs pennies. If it has to be the next best thing, there's Torchlight II.

They are in fact, and are not really out of date. The TLDR is you need to play a pet doc unless you have the full Jade set, and you can start with just rares and be fine in T1. Then you want to shoot for one of the fancy helms.

Diablo 2. Medial XL mod with a shared stash mod. Best thing you can do with about 50 hours of Diablo itch.

Depends on which way you want to go. Pet or DoT? For pet main gear would be Mask of Jeram, Tasker and Theo gloves and Tall Man's finger ring. SMK for weapon if you are really lucky. For a DoT build you want the Jade Harvester set minus the helm as you'll want a Quetzalcoatl.

using my first ramaldis was easy. now for the second one I have so many options that it's sitting in my stash. this thing shoulda been reusable, there's no reason not to be

I found this very overwhelming (I'm just a week into my Witch Doctor, too) to start. I would just shoot for any of the helms (by that I mean spend blood shards gambling a helm). When you get any of them, it'll immediately make your life better and different. If you happen to get a Mask of Jeram first, then maybe I'd start gambling for the others listed above, otherwise you need to decide if you want to keep throwing shards at the helm slot or not.
I've been having fun with a Condemn build. It's great for T6 or normal rifts but starts to fall apart in grifts because melee LOL. Lord and Commander gets me a little farther in grifts. The thing with Bowmen is they can't shoot over waller which is a frequent problem. They're also really stupid about trying to shoot through ledges and around corners instead of moving to get a clear shot and they tend to block the melee avatars. The melee guys are great for open maps but they trip over each other in tight quarters and can frequently be seen standing around not doing much of anything. Honestly the three guys from Falling Sword: Rise Brothers are probably all you need. It also has the benefit of working on bosses that don't have adds to create avatars out of.
Also I sat down and did the math for a Thorns build and just like everyone said it really REALLY sucks. Invoker set adds 4k thorns damage and the 4pc bonus turns thorns into aoe damage. Demon skin 2pc adds another 6k thorns damage. I figure if I maxed out thorns affixes I might get 40k thorns damage. Even with that ticking away for aoe damage it's a pittance compared to the millions of hps the mobs have. Sanguinary bracers cause you to sometimes do 1000% thorns damage when hit so occasionally you'd do another 440k~ damage. That's not too bad but it's reactionary damage. You have to get hit. A lot. Not something I want to do a lot of in grifts and if it's just one mob with a slow attack it's doing fark all for damage.
Hack(legendary axe) adds a 75-100% of thorns damage to your attack. Active damage so that's better but again what's another 40k damage when you're already doing millions? To mobs that have millions of hps? And it just gets worse as you progress in difficulty. It's supplemental damage at best and you end up crippling yourself to gear for it. It doesn't scale well at all. Thorns would need to do a LOT more damage to be worthwhile and it would need to scale with weapon damage somehow.
Want to make a thorns build? Get some pox faulds. There's your thorns build.
I feel like I've taken my Crusader about as far as I can. I might work on my WD or DH next.
I'd suggest that you gamble for Mask of Jeram first. Followed by T&T after you get the mask. Expect to spend lots of shards on both, but IIRC T&T is the rarer one. Also keep in mind, that right now, pets only get you so far in grifts (not sure if today's patch will fix that or not). Rolo can give you the best advice for what to shoot for. I'd also keep any Zuni pieces that aren't the helm, my pet doctor actual rolls with those and an RoRG so that I can have Fetish Army up until it gets destroyed because SMK is really fucking hard to get.
I've been playing my Seasonal DH a lot lately. I didn't really have a very good build or anything for a good while. Sort of a standard just-hit-70 Rocket build using Multishot. It wasn't that effective or even fun, really.
And then I found Meticulous Bolts. Holy hell that item is fun. I originally had one with 31%, which theoretically meant more damage, but was also slow as molasses. But then a day later I found one with 39% and it felt a lot better. I also ended up getting 4p Marauder's, a really good Windforce, and a Wyrdward. ALL THE CROWD CONTROLS! My next step is getting M6, because Meticulous Bolts ends up being even more ridiculously awesome at that point.
Honestly I'm going to try and stick with this Lightning build as long as I can. Mainly because it's different, and it's also really fun. I don't plan on being a super rockstar and clearing high on the leaderboards so maybe I can make it work.
Yeah, waller seems to fuck over both stampede and bowmen builds. Really wish they adopt the suggestion of just giving waller walls hp. Then all that dps wouldn't be wasted and it would make that affix less fucking obnoxious. "Oh hey, got boxed in by waller walls and need to get out of bad shit, I think I can burn those down before I get killed." Which would be much better than "well fuck, kulle aid is on CD and I'm boxed into bad shit, hope I don't die."
Anyways, as I've said the biggest issue with petsader is that the AIs are really dump. It also isn't helped by not having great AoE, but it's single target is very strong. I feel like if they made the AIs smarter - trying to reposition when they are unable to hit their target, having some priority parameters (aka don't target unaggroed goblins off screen and burn down elites first instead of focusing entirely on the shit summoned by elites or at least prioritize things within X distance of the player and then hit what's been up the longest). Not sure what the best option is for the collision problem, I'd like to keep the ability for them to box in mobs, given what they are, couldn't the devs consider letting them port past each other? AoE could probably be fixed by letting them benefit from area damage, I feel all pets should have some scaling with it (real issue with some paragon point expenditures either being crop or complete dead weight for certain builds - I mean max resource is bad, but at least you have the option to completely ignore it and invest in main stat). Letting bowmen piece is another option, but that only really helps the bowmen rune.
So both my RoRGs rolled Life on Hit, I'm assuming the best thing to do is to switch that into a socket? Especially with this new patch making jewelry rerolls only require imperial gems?

Going by the video MannerCookie put together, the bowmen spec seems like it works really well for T6 farming. It looks like the key is to forgo CDR and Akkarat's Champion entirely and gear like a pet witch doctor with T&T, Cain's set, Aughild's set and Harrington's. I have all that gear, plus Hexing Pants and Ice Climbers and a Phys/STR/CHD Xepherian amulet on my career crusader, just missing the ring. He's also swapping to a Mortal Drama for Bombardment to help out the bowmen with AoE. Single target is amazing though, bowmen just melt rift guardians.
Unrelated, but am I the only one who things they should disable the 'Geth likes' code? It's fairly silly and harmless but I feel like one or two posts per page per topic are referencing his likes/favorites when it's just some randomized gimmick. Time to retire it IMO.
On the subject of Diablo, I've been looking for quite some time for a gift and a pair of depth diggers. No luck at all so far.

We want pet survivability to be roughly equivalent to the player that summoned them
Many monster attacks that are intended to be avoided by players, and weren't already dealing reduced damage to pets, now deal significantly less damage to pets
Crusader
Active Skills
Shield Bash
Can now be interrupted during the hit animation
Witch Doctor
Active Skills
Fetish Army
Fetish Life has been greatly increased
Fetish movement speed has been significantly increased
Fetish leash range has been slightly increased
Gargantuan
Gargantuan is now summoned at the location of your mouse cursor
Summon animation speed has been increased
Spirit Walk
No longer cancels early when the physical body that is left behind takes enough damage
Summon Zombie Dogs
Zombie Dog Life has been greatly increased
Passive Skills
Fetish Sycophants
Fetish Life has been greatly increased
Fetish movement speed has been significantly increased
Fetish leash range has been slightly increased
User Interface
Fetish Army and Fetish Sycophants portrait icons should now display more fitting names on mouseover
Bug Fixes
Pets are now properly affected by Shield Pylons
ITEMS
Class-Specific Items
Wizard
Firebird's Finery
The infinite DoT debuff should now have a unique effect when it is applied
Legendary Gems
Boon of the Hoarder
The number of Gold piles that explode from enemies on kill has been reduced
To compensate, the amount of Gold in each pile has been increased
The total amount of Gold dropped remains unchanged, but this will noticeably reduce screen clutter
Bug Fixes
The Moratorium secondary power can now be triggered by assists
The Bane of the Trapped damage increase is now properly applied to Frozen enemies
The Gem of Efficacious Toxin poison DoT can now properly be applied by pet attacks
ADVENTURE MODE
Key of Bones, Key of Gluttony, and Key of War are now group drops
Rift Guardians and Greater Rift Guardians now drop more crafting materials
Greater Rifts
The Rift of Trials has received numerous adjustments in an effort to more accurately assess an appropriate level of Greater Rift
Large Aqueduct and Sewer maps will no longer show up in Greater Rifts
Kadala
Philosophy
While Kadala is doing a great job of giving players more control over finding specific items, we felt the current experience was a bit cumbersome and inconvenient
As a result, we're working to reduce the frequency at which players need to run between Kadala and the Blacksmith to salvage unwanted items
The cost to purchase items from Kadala has been greatly increased
The chance for Kadala to drop a Legendary item has also been greatly increased
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue that could cause Greater Rift Guardians to sometimes drop multiple of the same Legendary Gem
CRAFTING
Mystic
Enchanting
Philosophy
We want players to be able to more reliably add sockets to their jewelry in order to enjoy Legendary Gems
We still have long term plans to provide more outlets for excess gems and more ways to farm gems that a player needs; however, since those changes are further down the road, we wanted to improve the quality of life of Seasonal and Non-Seasonal players alike by making it easier to add a socket to your Rings and Amulets
The cost to enchant jewelry has been reduced from a Flawless Imperial gem to an Imperial gem
MONSTERS
The Electrified monster affix now has a short internal cooldown
The damage of The Butcher's Fan of Spears attack has been slightly reduced
The range of the Charging Beasts' Charge attack has been slightly reduced

Many monster attacks that are intended to be avoided by players, and weren't already dealing reduced damage to pets, now deal significantly less damage to pets

Ghosts now run away less frequently and no longer fly through walls in Nephalem Rifts and Greater Rifts
Rockworms can no longer spawn in Nephalem Rifts and Greater Rifts
