Rewatching some of the customization vids and man it makes me really want pre set camo patterns for the different terrains that will be encountered (white for snow, green for forest sort of thing) bonus if it would just know and equip them with it for missions. I'm the type to go all out and tacticalize my guys.
Need that pmc/delta look them.
Hype is real now I'm looking forward to what they have in store for us. Going with a personal run of fam/friends to throw into the meat grinder. It's going to be a sad day to see Demara "The babysitter" L. go down under a hail of gun fire.
Custom camo pffft, I made my assaults wear bright pink armor.
They didn't care if you saw them. They'd run at you with lightning reflexes and double shotgun in your face.
Faster? It was suppose to come out last November, and then they delayed it. Its coming out far slower than I wanted.
Yea. They gave their release date and then fallout 4 announced within like one week of them and they were like "you know a few extra months of polish doesn't sound so bad!"
So yeah, is there a reason why this is 80 bucks Canadian when everything else is at least 10 bucks cheaper?
Are you by chance looking at the deluxe edition?
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Deluxe is 95 bucks, I'm sure the game is ~295 in AUS bucks. Loved the last one, but yeah, I will wait at this point. It just strikes me as odd since it's been 80 from the start so far as I know when a lot of other, bigger AAA titles were ~59 to $69. I mean, if the design team is gonna come up here and shovel some snow, then sure, but I don't see that listed as a feature.
Stupid question about CPU. My 5 year old computer has i7 running @2.8Ghz. Anyone know if this 5 year old chip is quadcore? I tried to look it up from device setting but didn't say.
About to order 750TI graphics card and wondering if I need to order new CPU as well.

All i7s are at least quad core except for certain mobile versions. I'm almost certain that it'll be fine for the game.
You can hit up CPU-Z if you want to be extra sure though.

Blame our presently shitty dollar.
Probably what happened was that xcom2 was priced when the Canadian dollar was weaker then the other titles. And once you price something you have a hard time changing its base price (imagine the outrage if non-American prices floated with the exchange rate)
They "fixed" the Australian price, so its now no longer $US80 for us in Australia, but the same as the US price, which is still like $85 AUS. Pretty standard for AAA games here.

Can't set up an ambush in bright pink... unless you'really doing it in the hello kitty factory. Lol

Just saw this on my facebook feed. Aliens looking pretty scary.
looks formidable but I reaaaaally liked the cyberdisc look more!
EU2012's reinterpretation of the cyberdisk was by far my favorite alien design for that game.
This dude looks terrible and rad though!

So, when this launches you should all prioritize creating a customized character for your forum persona. I'll work out a way to collect/share the character pool once I get a look at the formats.
Then I will proceed to twitch stream/record my first attempt at our collective revolution.
For business reasons, I must preserve the outward sign of sanity.

Heads up, greenmangaming has a 25% off coupon for upcoming titles for a few days. XCOM 2 included. So that's XCOM 2 for $45. Probably won't be this cheap again before release.
25PERC-2016GM-WTHGMG **
May not work, could be account specific.
Has anyone tried that code out? The cart seems to be just fine with the 25% off one as of right now.
There's another on the front page (VOUCHER CODE: NWYEAR-20PERC-WTHGMG) that's essentially the same and I'm tempted. I'd wanted to wait another paycheque or two, but shaving $20 or so off the Deluxe edition might just put me over the edge.
I've also heard some issues with GMG running out of codes and needing time to get more or whatever, but looking back on my account, I picked up Spec Ops: The Line and Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and don't recall any issues with either of them.
Forar on
First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!
So, I've been playing through EW to, you know, try and actually finish it before xcom 2 comes out. and all I got to say is
HOLY HELL THAT BASE INVASION MISSION IS RIDICULOUSLY HARD!
I saved/reloaded so much on that mission, and still lost 2 vets (a corporal and a major). The only thing that saved my butt was that I just got plasma rifles researched so I had a few of them floating around.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. ~ Terry Pratchett
I actually clicked it, went "No wait, spoilers!" and clicked off again, so all I know for now is what it looks like. It looks like it wants to go to spaaaaaaaaaaaace.
You can fail the base defense mission. You get infinite try's and the spawns are random. The first time that I did it I lost too but the next time was a lot easier

Ashes & Temples is weird.
For starters, unlike a few of the other scripted missions, it does not appear to scale according to the month it's triggered in. The spawns are just random; I procc'd it in July in a Normal campaign where I was just gunning for easy achievement unlocks, and it dumped something like 4+ Mechtoids, 2 Sectopods and an Ethereal by the end (on top of the usual smattering of Mutons, Chryssalids, 'Serkers and Sectoid Commanders.
It was ridiculous (probably still winnable if I were better at the game, but I was just not able to beat Sectopod + Ethereal with ballistic weapons. I had skipped lasers, but wasn't quite into plasma yet. I guess that's a potential risk!)
The random nature of the spawns also tends to make it either a cakewalk (lots of 'Serkers / Chryssalids, fewer Mutons / Mechtoids, Cyberdiscs instead of Sectopods) or just a brick wall.
Despite that apparently terrible encounter design, though... I just love it for some reason. Probably partly the atmosphere, partly the map layout, partly the way that reinforcements trigger and how you're encouraged to use ablative rookies. Nostalgia for classic XCOM.

It bothers me that they still use the rank structure to include colonels and the likes..... last time I saw a colonel getting dirty was at a mess dinner trying to scoop up his dinner plate up after drunkly knocking it over.
Started playing EW again and man am I not ready.

Yeah, I remember having an inkling that was coming and was both excited and filled with some trepidation.
Then it happened and I think my first accessible characters were my best archangel equipped snipers, which utterly trivialized the mission.

In theory, colonels can still take part in the field hence its inclusion in the soldier rank structure.
In practice, it always feels weird having a squad filled with what normally would be commissioned officer ranks after a while. But given the much smaller number of troops you tend to have, the old X-Com system may not have worked.

I have to disagree with that. Possibly in the past but current trends would not allow a colonel to willing participate in front line combat. They are much more difficult to replace than say a Sgt.
Colonels are planners/strategy dudes with computers and orders to write. Captain would be the highest commissioned office to participate in combat and even then they are really just managing the battlefield.
I think of it like a pyramid the higher portion is general, bottom privates. Closer to the bottom is where the action happens. Top is where the strategy happens.
They should have taken the real world equivalent to how Special forces operate...but it's not a big deal and in the end when colonel so and so dies there is a replacement just behind him. As well its not like this is a real military group this time around, rag tag rebels trying to take back their world. They can call themselves what ever they want as long as they can shoot lol.
I just want to play dress up and watch my friends get killed.

When this game was announced I was all "pic exclusive!? Niooooooooo" but last week I built myself a new PC so I'm back on the xcom hype train
I never felt EW was worth it. Was I wrong about that? Is it different enough to play or should I just keep my hype in reserve and go to town on xcom 2?

Ugh, so excited for this. Need it now. I should try a classic ironman game, seeing as I never played ironman.

If XCOM 2 is priced at $80 CAD then you are paying $57 USD. You save $3 USD/$4.23 CAD.
You may laugh today, but that rally is coming any day now.
Any day now.
Then who will be laughing??
Still you.
