Fuck all y'all Dark Pit haters, I'm going to laugh when the community discovers he is Tier S or something.
I could see an argument for not wanting Mii Fighters for aesthetic reasons. Or for the barely-differentiated clones cluttering up the roster (Falco's different since he plays significantly differently from Fox). Or for not wanting Duck Hunt Dog because that dog's a smug asshole.

Clones don't "clutter up the roster", they increase its size. More options are always better.
I mean, do people honestly believe that, for example, the game would've been better without Falco? If you don't like to play as him, fine, don't do it, but I can guarentee you there are plenty of people who are happy that he's in (and plenty who are upset that Wolf got cut).
So what I don't know yet is - are Dr Marios moves, gameplay wise, any different? From the videos I've watched they seemed pretty much identical...
He basically has his Melee moveset (pills, Mario Tornado and the old down air). I don't think anyone has down an in-depth analysis yet but I'm sure there are many subtle differences between him and Mario, which may make him preferable to some people, like in Melee.
At moments like this, that picture of the frog telling people to stop getting mad about video games is the only possible response.
Also, no list of bad characters should ever include Duck Hunt Dog. That just ain't right.
Duck Hunt dog is more of an iconic character than Ice Climbers and probably some other fighters on the roster. Everyone who ever had a NES with that famous 2-pack has experienced him. It's really awesome that they've acknowledged him again!

Personally? I prefer Project M's approach of combining Mario and Doc into a single fighter since neither character is all that different from the other to begin with. It feels more focused and doesn't force arbitrary distinctions between the characters. I also wouldn't mind if we had just one, good Link (or for Toon Link to be differentiated further).
I don't really care all that much, but I can't say I agree that more is always better.

The thing I don't like about Dark Pit is he is literally a palette swap of Pit. At least Dr. Mario has a different costume... I just kind of feel like if they were going to make clones, they could have picked just about any other character and come up with a better clone :P
But whatever, I'm not going to get mad over it or anything. I just think it's a weird choice.
Edit: Also I saw in a video that Dr. Mario has the cape attack, which is dumb. They should have just given him whatever his Smash Bros 64 move for that button was (which I'm pretty sure wasn't the cape)

I wonder if people realize that dark pit is actually a different character from the game and not just pit's dark color scheme from brawl made into a separate character

So after seeing that Gannondorf FINALLY gets to use his sword, I had a thought in the shower this morning...
The custom moves seem extremely extensive and to be enough to make the brawlers play like entirely different characters. Sakurai's done pretty much everything he can to make things easy to use those customizations, but that won't help the tourney scene...
Well, back in the Brawl era, one of my favorite things about the game was how Sakurai wanted to use every feature of the Wii, no matter how insignificant. To make travel play easier, he came up with allowing a person to store their name + stats in the Wiimote's internal RAM. I somehow doubt that will hold custom move data, though.
But what about the 3DS? One of the advantages of having the roster the same on both devices (whether chars are unlocked by owning both or not) is that you could theoretically transfer your custom characters from device to device, pretty seamlessly. So why not use the 3DS as the method of transporting your custom brawler to a tournament? Maybe it would even track the trophies/bonuses you pick up on your character and let you transport them back home..

Dark Pit is a pallete swap because that is his origin as a character. Sakurai liked his black Brawl Costume then decided to make it a character. In uprising he is literally Pits Reflection
He was always going to look identical to Pit and fight in a similar way

Hasn't it already been confirmed that you can swap out custom moves at the character select screen?
I mean, how hard could it be to do that, really? Marvel vs. a Capcom players have to select 3 characters and a custom move for each character, and they manage to get by. I'm sure the tourney scene will adapt.

I think the issue is making sure the moves you want have been unlocked if you're playing on somebody else' rig

Smash 64 didn't have side specials, so original Mario only had the coin jump, fireball and spin.
Basically on Japantime the concensus is custom moves yes equipment no due to rng . Most of them play a the competetive level so they probably know how the comunnity feels in general

Some of the reactions online are confusing to say the least. I'm sure everyone has a character they wanted in that didn't make it, but to read these reactions it's like Sakurai only put in characters that he KNEW no one liked and rejected the only characters that matter.
So I guess absolutely no one wanted Mega Man, Pac-Man, Lucina, Little Mac, Shulk, etc....?
Real question though, and I'm really not trying to troll: What's the appeal of Ridley? What does he bring that Charizard doesn't already bring from a gameplay perspective? I've seen so much anger over his absence but I've never seen anyone explain WHY they wanted him.

I need a refresher. Why do people want Ridley in the game so badly?
He's a cool dragon alien monster and the most iconic character of the Metroid franchise after its protagonist. As a fan of both Metroid and monstrous characters, I'd be elated if Ridley made it in.

Here are the differences in Melee:

If it's anything like that game, he'll have a lot of subtle differences making him more powerful than Mario overall.
Of course, now his Down+B is completely different from Mario's, which is just another point in Doc's favor IMHO.

Dark Pit just dropped in to crash our party.
So Gannondorf has different customs to Captain Falcon? Now this is interesting.

But yeah, if you wanted a second (third) Metroid participant then Dark Samus is probably a better choice than Ridley.
But now we have two Samus characters and Charizard covers the dragon angle so...
That said Im not in denial and realized he was a stage boss since Pyrosphere was debuted
It's easily the best Smash roster yet, it's not even close
It has all the best Melee and Brawl characters as well as a dozen fantastic newcomers
There is even a purple Charizard I believe :P
Neat. PK Starstorm was one of those final smashes that was decent in large matches, but garbage 1 on 1.
Have we seen if Lucario's has been adjusted? His was an absolute joke, as anyone could just jump into his blind spot
