welcome to steam pre-loads for the past 5 years lol
Try double that, its so old the PA comic about it is from 10 years ago.
Wait the GB guys are doing the explore missions and complaining about those missions? Those are going to be grindy little bits they are something to do while you are open worldy shooting enemies, not supposed to be like the story areas.
So you can't complain about that, then? Why didn't they make them better than "grindy little bits that are something to do while you are open worldy shooting enemies?" Are you saying it's not a legit complaint now because it's doing exactly what it's supposed to be, e.g., sucky?
So how would you maker them better?
That's not how criticism works though. It is not the critic's job to provide answers specifically on pieces of a subjective nature such as movies, books, painting, music, food, or video games. You can say this is bland or this is overplayed without saying x, y, and z are the answer.
No, you really can't, not for this. It like complaining that swimming would only be fun if you didn't have to get wet. The fundamental structure of quests in games is exactly this and I'd be really interested to see ideas to make them better because I literally don't think there is. They did go a little further in making them not mandatory tho so if someone doesn't like them they can ignore them completely. I think that at least is pretty good.
Im sure there were people who thought the same thing about Everquest's quest design.
I know in that instance I was using Everquest as a pejorative but I think devs have gotten way off course since WoW. The games are less about exploration and immersion and more about tasks.
I miss the feeling Everquest gave when you did something great or did much of anything at all, but it required a timesink that I cannot do because of other responsibilities. I'm not sure if the immersion was a product of all the time spent in the game or the structure, but I did get that same feeling during FFXI.
Anyway my point was people saw Everquest and said, "I dont know how anyone can do anything better."
Just the same when people played golden eye or people who played halo. There will always be someone saying how they dont see how devs can make this better. It just seems most people in general have a very limited view of history and fail to see how it applies to now.

god I'm getting old memory and time are all confused. When did Half-Life 2 silver come out? Was there a pre-load for that even? I can't remember now.
It amazes me how little people understand about what it takes to build video games.
Reddit is full of people asking if things like beards or prox chat were added. It's really not as simple as mashing a few buttons to add new features at this stage of the game's lifecycle. Those things may yet come, but it boggles my mind that people don't understand how complex a game like destiny is.

I made a post about the comic a few pages back as a joke and several people came out with 'omg entitlement'
But 10 years'ish. The comic is directly dealing with the vivendi lawsuit about valve self digital publishing it, so its a little apples and oranges. But the principles of 'retail will throw a shit fit if you can get digital earlier than in B&M'. I also get that its work for sony to unlock and preload a game, and they can't all of a sudden roll a schedule 12 hours forward because the devs turned the server on. They have procedures and work to perform as well which gets in the way. Were just lucky that steam kind of puts that stuff directly in dev hands so sometimes you can get that stuff switched early if you need to.
Out of curiosity, what does an average level game dev at a company like Bungie make per year? I have no idea what the industry standards are for that kind of thing.

Found this. Kind of neat really. Not sure how accurate it is, but hey, it looks pretty. The numbers make sense really. 71k for an entry-level dev. and 135k when you get really good and lead folks. Of course maybe it doesn't take into account bonuses and other things like that.
So if you had 100k to make a game. You could hire 1 programmer to work for 1 year and have just enough left over for Taco Bell value meal dinners every day.
Amazon has storage places all over they can ship things out same day in most major cities.
I'm so rural we don't even know what motorized vehicles are. We disinfect with alcohol and urine. Bacterial soap hasn't been invented yet. This internet may as well be 56k, too.

Yeah, you just need to not require any art assets or sounds beyond beep boop.

Amazon says my copy is guaranteed to come by tomorrow, but the actual tracking page says it's only been processed and is shipping by ground. O_O
Come on, Amazon, don't let me down. I don't actually mind if it comes later but I'd love to get into the clan before the limit fills up.
If they say it is guaranteed by a certain time and it isn't there by that time, get on the customer support chat. They're usually pretty good about giving you promotional credits and so on. They missed the release date delivery of one game for me a while back and refunded me like half the cost or something crazy.

Yeah, Amazon's customer service is pretty good. I won't be upset if I can't play it on the 9th, but I imagine the 100 member clan limit will fill up fast. Hopefully it does come tomorrow so I can get in before that happens.

Still a bit salty about no 360 digital purchase before launch.
Yeah, now I gotta choose between hopefully starting the download tomorrow morning and being able to upgrade to the next-generation version, or keeping my physical pre-order and getting Vanguard armory and a fancy bike.
Argh.

Yea, no you couldn't. People want benefits like health insurance and 401ks and what not. At low incomes that overhead can double the labor costs. That percentage is lower at the 90k level I admit but you've got a programmer with no computers or software licenses....so not much happening there.
Well for me if it doesn't unlock before midnight I can feasibly get 3 or 4 hours of sleep in and then play destiny. That is if I can get to sleep with the thoughts of playing destiny...

I'm going to finish cleaning my apartment tonight while I'm watching Monday Night Football (still need to clean the bird cage and vacuum), and then I'm going to nap for a couple of hours until the game unlocks. Then it's me, some caffeine, and no where to be on Tuesday
It seems crazytown to me to take a day off for an online-only game
I can't imagine the first day will go off without any hitches, when you take into account just how many people will be buying and playing this game tomorrow

Beta was pretty smooth, and Bungie has handled Halo releases without issue before. The modern game launch is not the server slaughter it once was. Not to mention both Microsoft and Sony have millions of reasons to give them whatever help they need.

"Hi, I just got a message saying I pre-ordered Destiny from you guys?"
<phone number etc etc etc>
"Yep, you're paid in full, arrive at midnight..."
"Really?"
"Yep"
"You're sure?"
"Yes,"
So, I now have one of the most highly anticipated games of the year waiting for me at Midnight tonight and I know literally next-to-nothing about it. I'm prepared to be totally blown away or wildly overwhelmed. I think I forgot about it mostly because every.single.time I get a game that's multiplayer focus I end up playing it by myself and being bored to tears.
So I guess my major question is: Split-Screen online Co-Op on one Gamertag? Yay/Nay?

It was to pay for that awesome sticker they added to their wall of game released. It took a lot of iterations to get the lettering right.
plus it had to be redone once someone noticed that it actually said 'Density'....
