I really hope the competition actually does force Game Freak to alter their formula

Does it still count as competition when Nintendo is cashing the checks either way?

well Game Freak is an independent third party company so

    yes

I mean I would think so

edit: and so is Level-5, so they are absolutely competing

they just both happen to release for the same Nintendo platform

I wonder if this will get a few folks to book trips to Japan.

Just when you thought the upcoming augmented-reality game might be the closest you’ll ever get to real-life Pokémon, a Japanese company has announced an actual Pokémon Gym.

Opening Nov. 19 in Osaka, the Pokémon Expo Gym is described as a “hands-on edutainment” facility where young Trainers — and probably more than a few older ones — can receive tips about training their (obviously real) Pokémon.

Among the Gym’s programs are “Charizard’s Battle Colosseum” and “Gardevoir’s Control Score.” There will also be a “Pokémon Expo Gym Gear” app, which will allow Trainers to track their rankings and progress.

Whether the Pokémon Expo Gym will expand beyond Osaka remains to be seen, but given the growing reach of the pocket monsters, it seems pretty likely.

I hate every monster design I've seen out of Yo-Kai Watch.

    They all look terrible.

It feels like Nintendo held off on a new Pokemon title this year because of that game so I'm already a little sore at it.

Then you finally prompted me to look at the designs.

    urrrrgh

Nah, Nintendo didn't hold off on anything. People keep underestimating how long it takes to make a new Pokemon game due to the way the timing on the last few releases have gone. I'm fully expecting the next game to be a "Z" version that's at least as comprehensive as BW2 was and that's a lot of work.

They almost look kinda like monsters from dragon quest monsters but I feel like the names wouldn't be anywhere nearly as clever

I really like this trainer art

like I really hope that's somehow a preview of gen 7's male trainer

Yo-Kai Watch demo is out for real this time

    Man is it fun

The battle system is super active

The best way I can describe it is you're constantly working on other stuff while the fight is going on

Either charging up super attacks or adjusting your lineup or healing your guys that are currently hanging back

Yeah. YEAH! I'll be over here with the well-designed monsters like Mr. Mime (he's a mime) and Seel (a seal).

I have no idea what the people in that comic are saying, and I don't really feel like I need to.

"That is the first time I have seen

    a Tauros riding a surfboard."

It's delightfully pedestrian. It reads like radio drama dialogue so that people will know what is going on without seeing the pictures.

There are certainly plenty of them, but its going to be a team of wet tissue paper.

    Volcarona is technically a moth.

I'm tentatively interested in it, but there's a dearth of reviews. It's definitely a game I need to read about before I decide whether to drop money on it.
