Is System Shock 2 supposed to annoy me with its lack of ammo?
Edit: and Nanites? And Health/PSI hypos?
Edit Edit: and Weapon Degradation? Honestly, when has weapon degradation ever actually been fun?
Yes. You are supposed to feel like you're constantly on the edge, like every bullet, every nanite, is a life or death decision. Because We ArE wE aRe We ArE wE aRe...

It doesn't put me on edge in the "I'm worried I'll die" way, it puts me on edge in the "Seriously? I guess I have to use the fucking wrench again." way. I find my deaths more annoying than unnerving, I'm pretty bad at aiming, regardless of control scheme, and if I'm bad at aiming a gun, I am horrible at aiming my wrench.
Now, the atmosphere can unnerve me at times, but often the ship looks a little too clean.
I suppose this is what I get for playing the Bio Shocks first . . .

Not to be that guy, but I don't think the Bioshock games hold a candle to System Shock 2.
@Dirtyboy has a plan, a plan involving gifting me the Guardians of the Galaxy table for Pinball FX2..... I am not sure what step two is but I am sure it is nefarious.
I have just realized that there are no leg marks in carpet from my Ikea desk because I have been slowly pushing it toward the front door of the library for the entire time since I turned it to stick out from the wall. My mother and I felt we were going insane. Rest of my family doesn't use it and doesn't notice.

Jump back when they many swing at you. Learn to aim better for when the butlers come.

As in jump while pressing back? Or is there a dodge button I don't know about?
And when I said I don't aim well, I mean in any shooter game. If a game has aim assist, it's always on.

If I could auto-loot things, if the map was better/clearer about where to go, if the skills and weapon degradation weren't so fiddly, I'd enjoy it more.
Don't mistake this for me saying I don't like the game. I can see where it shines. It is just more old-school, in visuals, mechanics and most importantly difficulty than I am used to. Honestly, if the game were to be remade now with modern graphics and game mechanics (and dear god controller support instead of me having to rig it), it would almost certainly be a favorite of mine, regardless of my poor aim. As it stands, the story and atmosphere have been engaging, but many other facets of the game remind me of how far games have come in the last 15 years.

damn, I bought my wife Trials Fusion without reading the minimum spec and found out it doesn't work on a GTX260 after I installed it. I'm so used to not having to read specs it didn't even enter my head
So FTL is good? I haven't heard anything about it. I added it to my list though so I can check it out next time I'm buying games. Super inexpensive so there's really no excuse not to try it.
@Paco Oh, please tell me no one has gifted it to you yet. I've had a copy sitting in my inventory forever, and it needs a good home.

For me it is the opposite, I hate that games have been dumbed down to hold your hand to the point of practically being movies instead of games now.
I don't need big arrows pointing exactly where to go at all times
I don't need "streamlined mechanics" which is usually insulting in its simplicity
I miss games making me think, and reason
System Shock 2 is a survival horror game at its heart, every bullet is vitally important and health/psi are things you have to ration in a constant risk/reward equation.

No, no one has gifted it to me, but that's not necessary! I'm here for cool people to play with and game recommendations, not free stuff.
Huh. So here's a possibly hidden bundle deal that might be of interest:
The Dark Eye Universe bundle. For $29 you get Blackguards, the Blackguards DLC, Chains of Satinav, and Memoria. Pretty good deal there, and Blackguards is a darn good game that's usually $40 on its own. Satinav/Memoria are good point-n-clicks and well worth the time if you enjoy the genre.
(A bit odd to me that a Dark Eye Universe bundle doesn't include Drakensang I & II but hey, whatever)
Guys, Firefall is now free to play and amazingly fun and awesome. If blowing shit up is your thing, you should get into firefall! If you want to get into firefall, be sure to go to the firefall thread or message me to get a referral code, so you can get free RedBeans if you ever decide to spend RL Money on the cash shop. (Redbeans are the currency, so if you buy some redbeans you get an extra pack of 10 for you and me)

So since Smokes is all set on GPU, if anyone else is in a situation where a gently-used 6770 would be a useful upgrade (Check PassMark's score for your GPU vs the 6770's score of 1675), and you're not a sneaky dirty lurker of dubious nationality and parentage ( :P ), send me a PM and maybe something magical can happen...
EDIT: CLAIMED!
Realizing who now has my address I may have made a huge mistake.
Thank you so much, my games are going to be so pretty!
I'm glad no one has my address. I have thought about joining in the secret Santa, but that is scary. I don't have the class some have.

@Pixelated Pixie thinks its amusing to gift things to people, then message them until they tab out of games so they can be surprised. Evil evil woman. Thank you so much for Crypt of the Necrodancer.

Not a lot of momentum for the Mount Your Friends giveaway.
For those unsure of what it is.
Laughing my butt off. Watched the video so I had to enter. For the wang.
And his hair was perfect.
Separate, or else price mistake exploits would produce immeasurable copies of certain games.
It... Makes GRRM look like a decent writer?
And they didn't.
So he died.
The weapon degradation can be changed with user.cfg, which is a file you probably have to create in the SS2 directory. More info here.
gun_degrade_rate 0.7 will make your weapons decay 70% as fast as they would by default, and 0 means they stop degrading at all.

Playing Abyss Odyssey if anyones curious about that game.
IF I win, please gift this to Pixie.
Wrong! Bad! Bad minion! To the dungeon with you!
See, you shouldn't have said anything and just accepted the game and then gifted it to Pixie yourself. Now your plan is out there.
