If I had never played a pokemon game and that demo was my first exposure to it, I would not want to buy pokemon. That is the exact opposite of what demos are supposed to do. If you want to give us a mega stone then just email us a code that we can enter in the actual game.
They've never done a demo before, have they? And it's not like SSB or some other genre. How do you do a demo for an RPG built around animals you have to capture?
Pokémon is not the type of game that lends itself to having a demo.

They had an XY demo, but it was never distributed to the public.

IIRC, they also had a demo for DP that was never released to the public, either. Maybe because it was harder to do in the past, but still.

Once again, you expect a demo for a game like this to be substantive? They're not gonna let you fight many wilds and they will not let you do a Gym battle. And they totally won't let you catch many wilds. So, you get a few battles and that's it.

You could just have a small unique park, give the player some optional tutorials, hand them a bunch of pokeballs, and let nature take its course. Smaller selection, lower level cap, only a few trainers, but it would give you a taste, and let you import a small pool of pokemon to get you going.
Just spitballing here, but that might be a better idea than what they went with.
Drop the player into one of the early routes with some preset pokemon and a few pokeballs. Explore the area, fight trainers, catch a few pokemon. Cut it off via a cutscene when you reach the next town. Seems pretty straightforward. Pokemon doesn't consist of missions or locating people hiding in plain sight. No reason to put that in a demo.
They've had demos for most of the games, generally they don't distribute them but you have to catch them while they are "touring". This is how I played Black and X before they came out, and they were much more in line with what other people have described as their "ideal" demos.
I don't think the mission based structure was an issue, but the fact that the missions repeated was. Hell, the first mission is great- interesting dialogue, fun encounters. But going beyond that it runs thin.
The missions were pitifully simple though. Find this missing trainer! Oh he's standing behind a tree right in front of me on a tiny island. The demo was nothing like the actual game. That's a bad demo.
I'm just curious about how many people actually buy both versions of the game. XY is the first time I ended up with both, but thats because Nintendo LITERALLY GAVE me one of them. And even then, this doesn't come with any price discount. Is this for...parents with two kids who want the game? I just want to see the meeting where Nintendo decided that this was the thing to do.
This pack seems to be specifically made for my wife and I. We both want a copy.

I wasn't prepared for this Emboar I fought in the Battle Maison yesterday. The moveset was Rest, Sleep Talk, Curse, and Gyro Ball. It totally swept my team.
@Riokenn I can help you with that if you want to do massive amounts of tradebacks. I don't have every pokemon, but I can get you up to -30 all in the pokedex.

I've bought every version outside of Emerald (that damn high price of it made no sense) and Pokémon Black & White 2.
Since Sapphire is my favorite version ever, I can't not pick it up.

Emboar can be pretty good in the competition sense of the battling scene. But I don't develop my team to be competition-level fighters. In fact, there's some easily exploitable holes in competitive types. A Chansey based around Toxic just gets wrecked by Lucario, which every player gets given through the course of the main story.

It just took me by surprise, since I've never seen that kind of set on a pokemon.
@Riokenn All I'm missing are version exclusive legendaries, and pokemon that I traded away but haven't bred another version of. Just give me the list and we can go through it gen by gen on Steam or something.

I'll be on Steam later tonight if you wanna trade pokemans today.
I also still have to transfer some of my old pokemon from old games. Though I wanna do that when I am 100% sure I caught the version exclusives before abandoning a game.
Looking through the list, you're missing a lot of pokemon that can be caught in the game itself. Do you not have the oval charm? I can still do it, it'll just take a bit longer.

@BigWillieStyles Ruby was my favorite as well (besides Yellow), so I'm with you there!
I'm at 500 caught with many I can get via evolving/breeding. Definitely need these though:
Venonat, Hypno, Hitmonchan (although I have Tyrogue so I may be set on this one), Baltoy, Unown, Hitmontop, Yanma (think I can get this in X), Relicanth, Kricketot, Aipom, Shellos, Buneary, Heatran, Phione/Manaphy, Victini, Alomomola, Heatmor, Reshiram, Landorus, Keldeo, Genesect, Yveltal
Ok, so I have some spare codes for the Pinsirite/Heracrossite and one for the shiny Gengar. I can't guarantee either of these will work anymore, but It's worth a shot, no?
Could someone be a gent and help me do some trade evolves? Plan on doing: Alakazam, Politoed, Gourgeist, Huntail, Gorebyss, Kingdra, Slurpuff, Gengar, Machamp, Aromatisse, Steelix, Trevenant, Escavalier, and Accelgor...Damn that's a lot. Um...not all at once, of course...

So, I finally got all the X&Y Mega Stones because one of my IRL friends finally got himself a 3DS. Time to replay X to get him some of the exclusive X Mega Stones and Xerneas as thank you.

I'll be able to get it. I attend Play Pokemon events, and I take my 3DS everywhere, so I think I'll be able to distribute it to a fair amount of people. Other than that, I agree that it's dumb.
