The mono[chat] and the Chatter's Journey

21stCentury21stCentury Call me Pixel, or Pix for short![They/Them]Registered User regular
It's only when a chatter tames their own demons that they become the king of themselves if not of the forums.
-Excerpt from "The Chatter with a Thousand Alts"

What is the mono[chat]? What is the Chatter's Journey? This thread will serve to elucidate this fact!

Basically, the Mono[chat] is the basic pattern found in every major chat thread. it is also called "The chatter's Journey".
In a nutshell, it can be described like this:
A chatter ventures forth from the forums of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the chatter comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow poster.
There are 17 stages to the Mono[chat], which i will briefly explain.

The Call to [Chat]
The chatter to be begins in a mundane situation. The [chat] thread calls to them and to head into the unknown.

The Refusal of the Call
Often, when the call is given, the chatter to be refuses to answer it and avoids the [chat] thread.

Moderator Aid
As the new chatter begins answering the call, be it accidentally or deliberately, their guiding Mod appears to them and offers them help, often in the form of a greeting.

Crossing the Thread's threshold
The point where the new chatter starts chatting in the [chat] thread, an unknown and dangerous space where the rules and limits are not known.

Belly of the Jail
Often caused by posting animated gifs that are too large, it represents the final separation between the chatter's mundane existance and the beginning of their metamorphosis into a fully-fledged chatter,

The Thread of Trials
A series of tests, tasks and ordeals that the new chatter must undergo to begin said metamorphosis. Often comes in threes.

The Meeting with the Admin
Not a literal encounter, more of a metaphorical one where the new chatter experiences the all-encompassing hatred of the admin.

Regular as Tempter
The new chatter faces temptations of posting badly as some regulars are allowed to as they know not the limits and rules yet. This may lead the new chatter to stray from their quest.

Atonement with the Mod
This is the step wherein the new chatter confronts and ultimately is initiated by the mod who holds ultimate power over them. This is the center of the chatter's Journey.

Apostheosis
When the new chatter dies metaphorically and completes the transition to become a fully-fledged chatter.

The Ultimate Boon
The new chatter completes their quest to become a fully-fledged chatter and gains the ultimate boon, acceptance in the [chat] thread.

Refusal of the Return
Having found acceptance and bliss, the chatter refuses to post in other threads and does not want to bestow the boon to their fellow poster.

The Magic Bookmark
Sometimes, the chatter must escape as their boon was stolen from those in power. This step, when used, shows that the journey back can be as exciting as the journey to.

Rescue from Without
At this point, the chatter helps their companion return to normal, everyday forum posting.

The Crossing of the return threshold
The chatter returns to the forums at large, but keeps the wisdom they earned during the journey.

Master of Two Threads
This step refers to trascendance, but can also merely be achieving a balance between normal posting and [chat] thread posting.

Freedom to Post
The mastery of [chat] leads to the freedom from the fear of infractions which, in itself, leads to the freedom to post well in the future.

Though some chatters followed this journey, some stayed at certain steps. it is important to help your fellow chatter complete each step.
The ultimate goal is, as always, to achieve balance.

I hope this helps and happy chatting.

May you all find Freedom to Post.

Recent Hollywood [chats] have become predictable and formulaic

    Begin with ironic parody

Have a crescendo of political arguments or feminism

A peaceful resolution achieved through teamwork

and close with a bunch of dick jokes and the promise of the inevitable sequel

    We deserve better.

@Cinders‌ my family had the same reaction at first*. Hopefully yours will figure things out soon :/

*I had to restrain myself from pointing out that I was growing tits, and gay men generally don't like that!

    K.

I tried responding to someone in the last chat thread, and then that thread got closed, so I am still feeling bitter about that...

I like seeing headlines on websites like 'Bear saves a crow from drowning, and everything is OK in the world'

because, man, I sure am glad we've resolved the Israel-Palestine conflict, the ebola outbreak, the Syrian civil war, racism, misogyny, etc, so quickly

that was getting me down for a while

    thanks, Bear and Crow!

I don't think either of them are gay? The younger one is almost certainly not. The older, idk. He's a lot more private but I think is into ladies?

    I dunno. *shrug*

I'd be okay if the headline was 'Bear saves a crow from drowning, affirms that sometimes the world can be okay'

it's just this notion of everything being okay in the world because a bear saved a crow from drowning

let me know when that bear stops a missile strike on a UN school, then I'll be more willing to accept that the bear can solve the world's problems
