The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Superhero movies have a long history of providing entertainment for moviegoers everywhere. Back in 1990, Marvel ventured for the first time into the world of film-making with the classic "Captain America", which was an instant hit.
So thinking about it, I really appreciated how many of the alien races in GotG were make-up based.
I know there was Rocket and Groot, and I'm aware that a lot of people don't like it in sci-fi when alien races just happen to be humanoid-shaped, but I really enjoyed the fact they didn't CG everything.
I just saw Guardians. It had some bumps along the road but there were just so many individual funny moments that I spent most of the movie with a grin on my face.
"We're just like Kevin Bacon!"
I absolutely condone James Gunn being given the reigns of a Star Wars movie. It'll kick ass.
Eh. Is Kobra really that big of a villain organization? It revolves around one guy, right? Seems small time compared to Hydra or AIM. The closest parallel I can come up with is the League of Shadows.

The League of Shadows ain't on par with, like, HYDRA
They're just a bunch of ninjas hidden in the mountains/a desert stronghold sometimes
Kobra isn't as big as HYDRA/AIM but it is a lot more similar

HIVE would also work
Haven't the League of Shadows altered the course of history over centuries though?
I guess I can see HIVE, but they're more cultist oriented, right?
Read Uncanny and New Avengers vol 1 today. They both definitely left me wanting to know more and see where the story goes.
That said, I definitely feel like I'm missing out on some back story with the whole Professor X and Cyclops thing. I get the idea but I think I might want to get some more details.

All you need to know is Cyclops got posessed with the Pheonix, and when it finally consumed it, Professor X tried to stop him and Pheonix-Clops killed him. You can read more about it and Avengers vs X-Men, but I don't recommend it.

Kobra was a pretty big adversary for the Checkmate comic series a while back, infiltrating them and fucking with their plans and stuff
I'd say that ARGUS is the current SHIELD equivalent, since they haven't used Checkmate post-Flashpoint
But they will once they hire me!
Oh yeah, I forgot ARGUS was a thing
I liked where they were going with it in the beginning but man that thing just fell apart and went nowhere huh
I don't really know anything about the comics ARGUS, but I'd say Arrow's ARGUS is similar to SHIELD
In the beginning of the New 52 they had ARGUS as this big stockpile of magical bullshit because they knew it was the most effective counter to the rise of the superhuman

Comic book Drax is not an honourable warrior, nor is he totally literal.
He's a guy who destroys stuff. He's good at it. He doesn't really care about anything else and his general opinion of people is total disinterest.
I like comic book Drax. But he's not the same character as MCU Drax.
Eeeeeeh
they're similar enough that a comparison is warranted
Family killed by Thanos/Ronan
Driven by grief and rage
Super-strong, uses knives
the big difference is that MCU Drax has some interesting stuff on top of that, being completely literal, his super-boastful Thor-esque demeanor, whereas Comics Drax is just...angry? Like the only time I've ever really liked him is when he's really dry and sarcastic and that was really rare.
In fact to be honest pretty much everyone in the Guardians movie has a harder edge in the comics other than Groot
Star Lord is less loveable rogue and more apparent loveable rogue who actually is space nick fury and will do some nasty shit if needed. Drax is a killer who doesn't really have any interest in anyone else. Gamora is a cynical assassin with a lot of blood on her hands and not much of a heroic streak either. Rocket is gruffer and more serious.

So Drax is fleshed out and given character hooks while Ronan is completely flattened
Fair trade...?
Drax has plenty of character in the comics. His character is that his family died, he was resurrected to do a job, and he doesn't really give a fuck any more. "I saw a light. There was nobody in it I wanted to see. Nothing more to talk about." He is sustained by the urge to do the job he was made for and a kind of residual feeling towards his daughter but that's about it, the rest of the time he's a coldly pragmatic shit kicker. Grief and rage don't really come into it.
He might not be a particularly funny or openly expressive character, but he definitely has character.

So many 80's references.
1944: Captain America
1986: Howard the Duck
1989: The Punisher
:P
I'm aware, I was just being silly

Just because Avengers 2 won't be the Guardians sequel.
I need more Guardians of the Galaxy in my life.

It's worth a read, just don't expect an amazing story

to both, even though they've gotten a laugh in the theater both times I've gone
Does comics Drax do the entire "all speech is literal" thing?
I don't really know anything about the comics ARGUS, but I'd say Arrow's ARGUS is similar to SHIELD
the first one of these I absolutely loved
the second was rescued by
"...kind of"

I don't mind when aliens are humanoid shaped
I mind when EVERY race is humanoid shaped
Mass effect hit a nice balance

Ronan has always been a character that rarely shows depth
but when he does show depth it's pretty great
It's just really generic and bland.
Like, Drax is Space Punisher if Punisher didn't have ridiculous 80s action movie moments and a bone-dry sense of humor.
