repairable?

My dog knocked over my friend's PS2 and it hit the floor (not too hard, actually) on it's corner. The system still turns on and goes to the browser screen, but no longer recognizes that there is a cd in the tray (game or otherwise).

Is this fixable within a reasonable amount of money? Is it fixable at all, even? It's not the biggest deal in the world, as it was a used system in the first place, and she wasn't married to it. Still, I feel bad and would like to see if there's something to be done.

I'd assume it's an issue with the laser...most likely fixable - have any pics of the interior? is it slim or big?

I'd say laser too. Pretty easy to fix really, as long as you are good at putting stuff back together again. The actual adjustment wheel is buried a bit deep, and it's as sensitive as all get out.

A tiny tiny movement of the wheel makes the difference between go and no go, so it a time intensive process more than anything. Basically, once digging through the guts of the PS2, find the white adjustment wheel and note its position. Slip in a disc and boot. Power off, and turn the wheel about a quarter of a tooth to the left and boot again. Wash rinse repeat four times. If still no go, return to the start and repeat, only with tiny (and I mean frickin tiny) moves to the right.

If still no go, turn the wheel all the way to the right, and then begin your journey to the left, booting after each tiny, quarter tooth readjustment. Eventually you'll find the sweet spot, where it finds your CD. IMPORTANT TIP! You have just customized your laser to read this specific disc, and it is likely you will play more than one. So grab a second disc, slip it in, and find the spot where this one loads too. When you get both discs to fire, grab a third and everything should be groovy. Take the disc out, power down and carefully reassemble the PS2.

    All fixe'd.

To answer the earlier question, it's one of the slim ones. Are the repair instructions still the same for this?
    I think I'll give it a go.

And for the love of GOD, don't snag anything on the ribbon cables. They don't like it!
