This time I disagree with mojo and yougottawanna. I don't see this killing small group or roaming action, in fact, I think it does the opposite. With well defined chokepoints, the masses will sit on those waygates and grind siege until their eyes bleed. That will free up the rest of the map for small roaming groups, free to do what they do best: roam.

The article specifically mentions smaller objectives that help reinforce a keep (shrines). If those are positioned such that traveling to/from them takes a significant amount of time and assuming that they are akin to the difficulty of sentry positions now, there is no way in hell that any commander is going to even give those a second thought. EVER. Those points will be the domain of the small "havoc" groups and solo hunter/killer players.

It seems to me that the goal here is to create a solid front-line mechanic that will give the zerging guilds and players exactly what they want, and enough variety in objectives that smaller guilds and solo players will have plenty to accomplish without having to worry as much about getting run over by an enemy zerg.

Maybe I'm just overly optimistic, but this WvW map is probably the biggest thing to get me back into GW2. I'm actually looking forward to seeing it in action! (NICE did sign up for the HoT beta, right? Somebody tell me that we signed up for the beta this time!!!)

Wait what happened urg I missed out on chaos?

We became scopians. Ruined a kharma train by decimating the map. And in general battled queues all night.

We should all transfer to t3

    No queues

Is it supposed to send a confirmation or something? I've tried three different email addresses and each time, it says "Congrats, you did it!" and then complete radio silence. I can re-enter the same email a second time and I get the same message: "Congrats, you did it!" I would think that if I was already on the list, it would say "Yes, that's nice that you're so enthusiastic, but we got you."

Since I jumped back in I made a lot of progress on Kudzu.

I'm less than 100 shards off the Gift of Mastery. I just need about 350 Deadly Blooms for the Gift of Kudzu. Then the slow progress of th Gift of Fortune.

Then Leaf of Kudzu, but I'm going to see how the HoT specialisation track works for finding a precursor.

I've been leveling a ranger and a necro alt. So far, having a little bit more fun with the ranger in PvE, and more fun with the necro in PvP. Not sure which I'll stick with.

Have you gone to Dry Top/Silverwastes yet? the chests there have a chance to drop oby shards, plus a champ bag and other goodies.

Silverwastes is also probably the best single open-world place to grind for ectos; A successful breach event + Vinewrath will net you 3 bags with guaranteed rares or exotics as well as 2 Greater Nightmare Keys that can be used in the maze that opens shortly after Vinewrath for more rares and champ bags, not to mention likely dozens of other champ bags as well as these gear bags that also have a chance to drop rares and exos as well.

Dry Top isn't quite as profitable on that department, but the dust mites that are everywhere during sandstorm can drop charged cores and lodestones (which I know you don't need for Kudzu, but they're something you can sell for other stuff), plus the unique drops found in the Buried Locked Chests in DT tend to be more valuable to sell on the TP than what you find in Silverwastes' Lost Bandit Chests; if you're lucky enough to find a recipe for a Ventari's(ala Ascended Nomad's) Heavy Armor piece, that's 20g for buying mats right there.

This is mostly for @Kylindra but I figure others might be interested... is anyone interested in making some 1st person Jumping Puzzle videos with me sometime? Though maybe Sage should take the initial footage and I can do the (kinda hackneyed, extremely amateur :P ) video editing... I think Sage's computer is a bit better than mine, but I'm not sure. If she has the better machine, she might want to take the video.

    For the record, my rig:

    GeForce GTX 750 Ti
    12 gigs RAM
Intel Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20 GHz <= This is my big weakness, and probably why my GW2 tends to randomly freeze, and I do mean randomly, like... running around an empty field with nothing happening randomly. And why I can't run any post-processing effects, despite having my textures and animations on high)

Anyway the real point here isn't so much my computer and fraps and how nice things work but rather "hey wanna run jumping puzzles in first person and take some videos because I think that'd be neat"

Hah, had the best Foefire match ever
The enemy team had a thief and guardian guild team who rushed the guild lord, requiring some of us to stay back and babysit the lord, but giving us an initial point lead. After two unsuccessful attempts, they went in and managed to cap mid, and then our home point, where they initially breached the gate. Of course given this opportunity, they went after the guild lord again, this time accompanied by a longbow ranger. In frustration, one teammate typed to map chat
"Looks like they want a PvE win"
With the additional damage of the longbow ranger, they managed to down the guild lord, leaving the score about 475-400. While walking a victory lap back to our home point, the opposing team retorted:
    "Looks like we got it"
They took over home, but with one guy holding each of the other control points, we managed to decap our home point at the 497 point mark. As our points ticked up to 500, the opposing team had a meltdown in map chat, and we basked in the warm, comfortable radiation.

Then the client restarted for a patch before I could save screenshots

Too many people think killing the Lord in Foefire is an IWIN button.

...but it's not. It's a hailmary or final nail in the coffin you only go through with when your score is high enough that a lord kill = instant win. The loss of map control usually isn't worth it otherwise.

I've seen so many games won or lost because one team (or even team member, which is what happened in my last Foefire loss) goes for the Lord too early and ends up behind even if they got the kill because they basically gave the other team free reign of the map.

Yeah I've been in Silverwastes since I got back in, aside from forays to other world bosses for rares.

I've also found that the Silverwastes is great for Karma gain to supplement the awesome karma gain I get from wvw, which is helping me build up shards nice and quickly.

Interesting little note in the latest hotfix:
Updated condition damage. Previously, a condition that had a fractional remainder of time after it dealt damage would not inflict the rest of its damage. For example, a 1.5-second burn would deal 1 second of burning damage, then fail to inflict the remaining 0.5 seconds of burning. Conditions will now deal this fractional damage either at the beginning or end of their duration, depending on when the next damage pulse would occur and their remaining duration.

Didn't even know that was a thing. Oh well, any condi buff is a good condi buff, even if it is a fix.

    Just found out something cool.

You know the gem->gold converter? How you only seem to be able to turn gems into an even number of gold (i.e. no silver or copper) leaving you with a worthless 2-3 gems?

Turns out, you can use decimals in the custom exchange to buy, say, 4.2g for 40 gems, and it will give you the 4g20s that those gems are worth. You have to have at least 1g worth of gems first, and while I think you can even go down to the copper, the readout of the gems you are spending can bug out after 3 or 4 places.

Hello gw2 thread, I just realized you exist. I have been pretty obsessed with this game lately; I played way back in beta for a bit and a bit at launch, but then fell out of the habit. Been back for a few months now, hooray!

I'll try to get an invite to the guild when I get home tonight, I'm at work and have no idea what my entire game tag is.

The guild I usually rep nowadays does guild missions every week. I am assuming you can only get credit for guild missions once a week, total, not once a week for each guild, because that would be silly.

@Kylindra thanks for recommending Silverwastes to me, I had a blast in there tonight. First try was a failure, we didn't kill all the bosses and then failed hard on the vine boss, so I didn't get to see Pac Man.

I went right back in for another round and had a great group, we rocked everything and I got to do Pac Man. I even had the chest key, so I didn't miss anything. I think I'm going to be spending a lot of time in there, that was fun as hell.

Awesome, I'm glad you had a good time! Although just for future reference, Pac Man isn't dependent on the success of Vinewrath, it happens after it regardless--you just get a free key for the chest if you win VW (and another if you 5/5 Breach). But you can still run around collecting the little keys to assemble if you want. :)

You can still run RTB on an engie as long as you are going p/s, LB zerk rangers cant really do much against you as long as you are aware of your surroundings and ducking into cover. if they try to go melee on you, they get eaten by your turrets, so you don't have to even be on point when 1v1 against them, most of the maps have cover nearby so as long as you keep the cover between you and them, they have to close in at some point or wait for backup.
