Just picked this up. It's a little overwhelming. What's a good melee type gems should I look out for?
Just stash all the gems you find if you're totally new. You can later check which ones you get from the first three quests at the start and just vendor them.
There's a new 3 month league starting in 5 hours, you might want to consider making a new character there. It'll have a killing spree buff that you stack up. I'm not sure if strongboxes return to the standard league yet but those are pretty boss as well. Even if you don't make a new character, your character will get a free talent respec since the tree is being changed.
I will def be playing new HC league when this drops. Have decided on skulls witch, witch starting area is amazing now, so much shit to grab.
does anyone know if skulls are good from the get go or should I wait to use them till later? If it's later then i won't have to really grab any minion damage nodes early on. With freezing pulse getting a pretty big buff I'll prob just use that for awhile anyways.

Everybody here should at least try the HC league. It can't be invasion-release-terrible... Even if that was actually a little fun seeing friends rip 10 times in 2 hours.
If you're HC you should be more cautious with both bosses in act 1. Both of them are a lot more similar to Vaal boss, though no one shotting laser or fist that I saw.
I might as well expand on desync, because why not.
Certain things that you do cause desync.
The biggest of these are frequent collision calculations, usually with packs of enemies you're trying to thread through.
The other are things like spamming Blade Whirl and Leap Slam (and only if you go whole hog nuts with it beyond any reasonable use).
I only /oos after trying to run through a pack in hurry in narrow passages and the like or during certain kill shot skills.
Minor errors (like a fraction of a milllimeter) shouldn't bother you as it shouldn't affect your accuracy with skills or your survival.
You can also notice when things don't quite add up. Sort of like Deja Vu in the Matrix. You're taking damage but there's no indication where it's coming from or the blast from your AOE or your projectiles don't originate from your character model. It's just about learning from experience.
I can't say that I've had a single death where desync was a genuine problem, because usually, I was doing something else extremely stupid anyway.
hmmm, skulls build requires more gems than I out thought into, I'm poor so i can't buy them and i don't wanna keep leveling without leveling auras. Think I'm gonna bench this chick and just do an ez mode flameblast build for quest gems.

i love this revelry node and im not ashamed to say it
I played with 3 of my friends last night in the Beyond league. We finished Act 2, and holy shit this league is a lot of fun. We had some close calls with some tricky portal spawns. My favorite was a portal opening at the beginning of the Alira fight, and out pops a rare mob with the "other enemies cannot die" affix.
Edit: Also, they buffed the shit out of Duelists since I last played. I'm playing the tank for my group, and it's working quite well.

So for lack of forewarning and any build planning I'm rolling a bow ranger right now and basically have just taken every bow related gem reward and am leveling them together.
Only notable drop so far is some kind of unique ring that gives + fire damage and ignite chance. Should i roll an explosive arrow ignite proliferation?
Currently rolling:
Fire arrow
Split arrow
Poison arrow
Rain of arrows
Barrage
Poachers mark
Unsure where I'm going with this. Barrage seems strangely useless? Tooltip damage seems inaccurate - Is that designed for some kind of on hit damage building?

Huh, the ring is Beyond only. Screen shot when I get home for lunch
Here's a popular detonate dead build. The same exact build would work fine for flameblast. I run grace, purity of fire, clarity, lvl 20AA. You can grab the witch flask nodes to make leveling a breeze, and there are a bunch of elemental damage and fire nodes you can take to increase damage. I leveled my DD guy with snoring bond and firetrap, DD doesn't really shine until maps. Leveling with flameblast should be fine though.
I like all the new balance changes, everything they've done to tree is awesome. Unfortunately some of the masters quests are really bad, like 10-year-old MMO escort quest bad. I think part of the problem is they are tied to the map where the master spawns so they are a bit limited in terms of what they can expect you to do. Running through a mostly cleared map to try to find stuff to kill for a skeleton or whatever isn't great.
The rampage system is kinda fun but most of the time it ends up not helping me much, sort of like most of the vaal skills I've tried. By the time they build to something powerful it's time to go somewhere else. If it rewarded killstreaks with a slight rarity or xp bonus I think it would feel a lot more rewarding.

Are guild invites through account name or character name? If account name can I get an invite? I think I'm offday or anoffday. I can't remember since I merged my account with steam. I played mostly before it was brought to steam.

At 2 hours the servers will restart, and the patch will be available for download.

And if you've already got a character go make a new one!
I likely will not be playing the new HC league for a while.
But especially not on a release day.

When I get back I'll either be rolling HC if solo, or SC if people I know are playing. Since they don't want to run SC.
Either way I want to do both leagues this time. They both seem cool.
Might give Reaver shadow a shot again, just because.

Oh, come on, it's POE, we're never playing it for stability and good netcode.
...or adequate netcode.
Edit: The Sandspitters are now making tiny whiny noises that sound eerliy human upon dying. Nice.
Edit: Take THAT, nasty bugs from the beyond!

not hype because i still need a windripper to do a build and it's too expensive

People hardly used them anyway.
God dammit.
Yes thankyou!

Except all the ones that did, which was probably a majority, across characters and level ranges.
Link it with Lesser Multiple Projectiles.

ill have to wait for more information on shotgunning & positioning of the arrows to get the most procs, but i think barrage is better atm

also i know what to use tornado shot for, guaranteed piercing through coc frost walls + buffed skill duration
Is flameblast even what you would want to use for that if you're going spellcasting?
