LMAO. Hilarious if true. I wouldn't be surprised if there were tons in that patch to be honest. I feel like when things go live people are going to lose their shit. Would also lead credence to them making no mention of what the Day 1 patch actually does.
I don't. They have something I want. Let the experience be a fine meal that is just missing that little thing that haunts until the reminder of the first taste is a bitter thing. . .
I bought the collectors edition of the game and strategy guide from Amazon with 2 day shipping. I will not really have that much time to sink into the game until that Friday so it is not a big deal. Plus the strategy guide will give me plenty to read until I dig into the game properly.

I was going to go digital, but I'm tempted by the art and strategy books now. Is the strategy guide worth it if I don't intend to actually use it on a first playthrough (unless I run into some really puzzling game mechanic)? I've heard that these guides tend to be unique source of lore information, but what's the value of reading it in the guide instead of on the internet?

It's Future Press and the tend to do an AMAZING job with their guides. The Bayonetta guide was jaw dropping.
I remember when Dark Souls came out, people were playing it early, and From sent super high level black phantom invaders into their world to kill them.
RE: Future Press guides, their Dark Souls 2 guide was nicely crafted but it was honestly a pretty shitty guide. Some of the maps were pretty grim, and more importantly, it only had information about how a weapon's scaling started out. So for weapons that don't start out but end up with S scaling for example, you'd have no idea if you were trying to check the guide for that. There were some other things, but that was the biggest thing that irritated me about it.

The idea that they would withhold content that may affect early review scores so that they can surprise people on release day is... Strangely amazing and brave. I love it.

Also, if the reason for the hold back is true isn't it possible that that patch DOES contain a different load screen and an opening cinematic as those might be considered TOO spoilery and they are trying to keep that stuff to as minimum as possible. I just can't see a FROM Souls'ish game not having flavor text and an "epic" opening cinematic.
I'm totally Day 1ing this btw. My one concern is that I'm worried because I've never played a Souls game and 'patience' seems to be both a mandatory method of approaching these games and a quality I've never possessed...

Then you are pretty much coming in on the perfect game in this whole genre for you.
Basically if I were to sum up the combat I would say it would fall in line with "Tactical Agression".
The big thing to get over with Souls games is Death. I'm not sure how Bloodborne is handling it exactly, but death isn't actually death, like in most games.
In fact, you re-spawn at your last "checkpoint" with the ability to get back what you lost when you died. However, Souls and humanity(and probably Blood) are currency, and become easier and easier to obtain as you go.
So if you get over the mental hurdle of, "I have to get back what I lost I'm set back I DIED".
You essentially have infinite lives and nothing is actually a danger to you.
I think it's really great of them to go to those lengths to keep something from being spoiled before the game is out. Patching in content is just about the only way to keep it from happening.

Eh. It has a very strong drawback of making the game incomplete on the disk, which is an issue any time you want to play it on a new or disconnected console.
That's still a thing sometimes, especially in edge cases like deployed soldiers.
Sony is rolling out a new promotion in Denmark where people who donate blood can get a free copy of upcoming PlayStation 4 role-playing game Bloodborne.
In an effort to help raise awareness for the lack of blood donors in the country, PlayStation has formed a partnership with Danish blood center GivBlod (via NeoGAF) that will give donors a free copy of the game.
The event itself will be held on Monday, March 23. Blood donors can receive a free copy of Bloodborne or another PlayStation game.

That's interesting. I've never thought of the fail state as such a hindrance to gaming that I need to think about it a different way. I definitely view Dark Souls in the way that I died. There have been many a "GOD DAMN YOU"'s screamed from my living room that echo louder than any Game Over screen reaction could.
So after binging on Lets Plays and game series I am giving SERIOUS thought to maybe doing a playthrough myself - which is something I've never done. Given the "difficulty" of these games I think it might be a hoot. . .
So, some folks are speculating that with 41GB being required for game install, and 25GB being the download size on PSN, that we are in for a 15GB patch? Would they really pull something like that? Would they really hold off a significant amount of content just to keep a lid on the "mystique" of the game?

Doubtful. Consider that the download size is the compressed files and the install files are the uncompressed files. Doesn't even account for the patch I bet.

Also, if they wanted to hold back content, having an enormous sized patch would be about the dumbest way you could do it. You could just set a few toggles in the code to restrict the content seen and then just flip them off with the patch making the content available.

Yeah. Type-0 is like 25 gb or some such but my PS4 only downloaded a 3.5gb file. They do a whole lot of compression.
This article actually has me more hyped than any of the screenshots I've seen. No real spoilers other than giving an estimate of weapons and total areas. No boss or gameplay mechanics talk. Does give me hope that flavor text might be coming (wishful thinking).

People that ordered the collector's edition strat guide together with the game via Amazon may want to look at adjusting their orders. Guide got delayed because they added 128 pages to cover important changes applied through the day 1 update.
The guide will be shipping on April 14th now
If you did have it ordered on a separate order, I would suggest canceling and reordering to take advantage of the 30% off in case you still plan on getting it

... yeah okay I'ma board the "half the game in day 1 patch" train now I think. 128 pages is a LOT of content to cover.
I'm getting this. Day one. I've never finished a Souls game, but the aesthetics, the atmosphere, the focus on disease, the weapons, they're all just too enticeing for me not to try it. I'll get my ass handed to me, I know. But I will, as they say, git gud.

Are you sure that's not just the initial download? They do the same thing as disc installs, downloading enough so that you can start the game and then the rest is downloaded in the background.

I don't think you have to re-order it, they automatically adjust your price to the lower amount.

Except that you have to install the game anyway and take up the same amount of HD space.
What?? Is this true? My other games install some stuff but not the whole disc.
Well, then by getting physical it's 10$ cheaper for me.
Still going physical for the GCU discount and massive trade in bonus this week from BestBuy.

What other company is so confident in their game that they'd keep core mechanics and gameplay hidden from everyone, including reviewers, until launch.
No one else is that insane!
I am hype.
