Ali was wrecked by ranged champions(also Darius). They didn't really need to nerf him.
Now it just makes it harder to support as him because disengage W's don't do as much damage (also because 100% they will bug it so that you can't auto attack anything after a W)
The nerfs weren't for support Ali which is nonexistent. It's because trying to play melee champions against him once he got a sheen consisted of getting headbutt/auto'ed for a huge chunk of your health with no recourse whatsoever. There's no reason he should be able to AA while using his knockback, just like Vayne can't any more because it allowed her to trade silver bolts procs too easily without recourse.
If they want him to support they can buff him elsewhere. He's cancer in top lane ever since Korea discovered him, which is why he's banned every game in high elo.
48% high elo win rate. He is strong against a certain set of melees but gets trucked by a certain set of ranged champions. There are lots of top laners like that (Renekton for one!)
They needed that nerf to Ali. Not unlike when they made it so Vayne can't AA right after she condemns. But with Ali it just made laning against him the fucking worst as soon as he finished a Sheen. Now he at least has to trade with you if he wants to sheen proc you.
Sandmage dude is going to be AP. They said in the intro thing he's unlike other mages because he wants to AA, etc., but the implication is definitely that he's an AP imo. Nashor's tooth has to be the core item I guess. Attack speed, AP, and 20% CDR for even more attack speed for him, along with the on hit. Guessing his sand dudes don't proc on hits but that'd be godly.
I'm guessing after Nashor's it'll be tanky AP stuff, unless he's save and the ratios are decent enough as then people will just go nuts on AP and poke you to death with sand men.
Yeah, I get the impression that you should build him like Kayle* except you never have ult to rely on. So maybe like Nashor's into Zhonya's, then pursue tankiness and finish it off with a Void Staff. Hopefully his mana costs won't necessitate an Athene's to be effective.
*non-Korean -- I don't see how the minionmancy mechanics would work with Runaan's at all though if it does that'd be pretty hilarious

If his W auto's apply slow then Rylai will be core. If not it still might be(its got great stats). If his W auto's apply on-hit then i would expect lichbane/triforce into tanky/AP builds.
"We're not out to replace Dominion here, this is our next featured game mode!"
Mmhmm... that's what you say now but then
"because of the popularity of Ascension we will keep it activated longer"
"because of the waning popularity of Dominion we will be replacing it with Ascension"
In object-oriented programming, the single responsibility principle states that every context (class, function, variable, etc.) should have a single responsibility, and that responsibility should be entirely encapsulated by the context.
In league of legends, there should be an object or data point which contains the damage, range, and other data about each ability, and that should be the only place that data is stored.
If the tooltip does not match the damage value, it means that the main game system and the tooltips are gleaning the values from different places- IE, two different places claim to know what those values are, when really it should be one .
In software engineering, don't repeat yourself (DRY) is a principle of software development, aimed at reducing repetition of information of all kinds, especially useful in multi-tier architectures. The DRY principle is stated as "Every piece of knowledge must have a single, unambiguous, authoritative representation within a system."
A. High-level modules should not depend on low-level modules. Both should depend on abstractions.
B. Abstractions should not depend on details. Details should depend on abstractions.
An abstraction, like tooltips, should not depend on the details of the tools they tip for. Each skill should feed seamlessly and in real time into the tooltip framework.
If the tooltip and damage values do not match, the tooltip is not properly abstracted. The mere fact that the tooltip can be wrong at all (without it being wrong as a result of the skill itself being incorrect) is proof that the tooltip is a high level principle which depends on the details beneath it.
Honestly I could go on. This also violates the open/closed principle, and probably a few more but I need to actually work more today so I don't have time to do a whole lecture on why this is terrible.
Everything is datatype minion though. You try to keep your minions in the right spot .

What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable? ~ Mario Novak
I never fear death or dyin', I only fear never trying.
don't seem that embarrassed considering they've been putting them in their patch notes for years now
Their lack of shame does not indicate they should not be ashamed, it just indicates that most people can't tell shoddy engineering based on patch notes.
Yeah. This isn't rocket surgery, or some hoary, academic question, it's the most obvious, basic principle. It's not even easier to do it wrong than it is to do it right, so I don't know how they managed it.
.7 Ap ratio on those attacks with lots of base damage. Its going to truck towers. I mean he can always just siege with them and his R to hold your team off it too.
Got my series for Silver 1 last night; hopefully I'll have time to play through it tonight. Have won my last 6 ranked games as Sivir; I have high hopes!
I think I'll call something to the effect of "adc main but I'll fill" and see what happens. (And if I have to fill, go Leona support--as long as there's no Morgana--Lulu top, Lulu/Vel'koz/Karma mid, Udyr jungle.)
Teach me your ladder climbing ways! I've been stuck in Silver V for months, these rungs are just too slippery for me.
I spent months last season stuck in Silver 5. Eventually I realized that my main (Caitlyn) was not working out for me--had 50% winrate or below--so I cast around looking for a new main. Played the flavor of the moment champions until one clicked with me; also got better at other roles (by feeding in normals) so that it wasn't an automatic death sentence for me to, say, get stuck toplane.
Currently my strategy is to play a lot of ranked--but only when I'm not tired/drunk/ragey, to have a sense of who I want to play before I start the game (so I don't make weird impulse choices like hey let's play Jinx oh wait I forget I suck at her)/what specific counterpicks might make me rethink that decision, and to quit playing ranked after 2-3 losses (because even if I don't feel "on tilt" I probably am).
Specifically, since I main adc, I also make sure that my farm is always better than that of my opponents. If it's not, means I have to go back to normals and learn to farm. I've recently also thought a bit harder about actually controlling the position of the wave in botlane. Earlier this season, I worked hard on figuring out when it is and is not acceptable for me to split push; now I think my main strategic problem is demented dragon attempts, so I'm working on that.
It took me I think 7 promo matches to get out of Bronze 2 this season...that was something.
Who are you trying to climb with?
I think you've already nailed my biggest problem, which is playing too many champs.
I'm okay with every position except support, I think my biggest problem is getting bored with champions too quickly. I think my biggest road block this season was going something like 8-2 in my placements and getting put in Silver 4, it really killed my confidence.
Lately I've been trying to climb by calling jungler and playing Udyr (not working), but I've been brushing up on my Maokai and Sejuani games in normals lately.
I usually prefer mid-Fizz when I mid (which I feel is my strongest position), I just haven't been able to get a good groove going with him since my placement matches. I have been having some pretty decent games with with Viktor, though.
When I have to play top lane, I honestly don't have a particular champ I like to play, I just try my best to counter pick. And for ADC, I've settled on either Twitch or Ez depending on who the enemy support is.
Honestly, I should just record some games and see if anyone here will critique them.
There are three steps to increasing your ELO. This took me from silver 1 to plat 3 in 3 months at the end of season 3(also Janna helped).
1. Don't play after a loss. Playing after a loss does three bad things.
A) It instills bad habits in your play. Repetition is memory. And you play like you practice. If you repeat bad habits you are practicing bad habits. Tiger woods had the same comment on bad golfers. He said (unspecifically) "you can tell a bad golfer by the way they repeat their swings after they shank one, good golfers forget bad swings"
It's losses you have to make up. You're playing bad (you just lost). You feel bad(you just lost). You're going to lose more. Losing more is not winning.
C) It makes you negative. Negativity begets negativity. You just lost a game, maybe it was your fault maybe it wasn't. Now you're unhappy and you take that out on others. That makes them unhappy. They play bad. You lose more. We call this "going on tilt". And its a real thing. The key to avoid playing on tilt is not to be able to realize you're on tilt and stop playing. Its to stop playing before you go on tilt.
2) Analyze every game, even the wins. Find at least 10 mistakes you made. Don't stop at 10, keep going. Farm isn't one of those mistakes. This can be mechanical mistakes(pressed the wrong button), decision making mistakes(pressed a button when you shouldn't have. Didn't press a button when you should), knowledge mistakes (didn't realize they had an ability up), and vision mistakes.
If you can't find 10 mistakes get someone on the forum to find your 10 mistakes. They're there you just can't see them. After a few of these go back and analyze the games again. You'll see more mistakes. If no one can find 10 mistakes you've peaked. You haven't peaked
3) Practice farm and champions. Go into custom games with no items and farm. 80 CS in 10 minutes is your ideal for mid lane without using abilities. Practice manipulating waves. (freezing, and self pushing. You need a partner to practice breaking a freeze). Practice ability combo's. Know exactly how much damage your combo does at various levels (when do i need to ignite and when don't I? and ideally various MR's as well) but note that that is super hard and also achieved by just playing the champion a lot and getting a feel for them
Hmm. I think. I've been spacing my games out and all of that. Today I went from 11/0 win to losing in under 20 minutes. Same role. Same champ. Lead my team on CS and KDA. very confusing stuff.
Lately farm has been my biggest weakness though. Maybe I really should play a custom.
.7 Ap ratio on those attacks with lots of base damage. Its going to truck towers. I mean he can always just siege with them and his R to hold your team off it too.
The balance team seems kind of split about whether his minions should be able to hit towers, interestingly.
I can't imagine it'll make it to live, he'll be the safest pusher in the game by far if it does.
Tried the new guy out on PBE. Definitely reminds me of Zyra somewhat with the summoned minions.
Blue buff is insane on the new champ, giving cdr AND attk spd because of passive. Smart cast is also dumb. Good news is that he is controlled rather differently than most champions, need to get used to his control scheme. Stutter step is vital for optimal play.
Seems like R>Q>E>W is the best way to go with Nashor's as the first item. Basic harass pattern is W -> Q -> E -> W and repeat.
Oh, and you have to level W first so i'm guessing level 1/2 ganks really hurt. His minions disappear faster if they are near a tower, which opens him up to a ton of hurt imo.

Hey guys, remember when Heimer could kill towers with his grenades and could lob them into it from the middle of the lane? That was totally engaging gameplay, wasn't it?

what the hell is going on here.
If Runaan works at all, could try out applying the on-hit Teemo build to him.
It looks like someone informed me incorrectly.
"His soldiers don't proc on hits, but yes--Nashor's is still pretty core."
so they probably count as AoE spells but that should still workout with a nashors > rcs > liandries build.

Blue Sandstorm Mage?
Edit: a rough calculation suggests that he will cap attack speed at level 1 so long as his base AS is .595 or higher.

I have to find it. Didn't mean to ignore. I post from mobile a lot so it's very easy to lose posts.
He won't even need to do this over walls, turrets have a 775 attack range and with his minions Azir can have a 1200 range attack.
