is it just me or does it seem because of south stuff is getting annouced really late this year
Somewhat. Usually it's only about a month before the event that stuff really gets rolling out. F'rex: Pokecrawl only got rolling about 4 weeks prior to the event last year.
Im pretty sure its been posted and im just blind but is there a list of what trains people will be taking into Boston? Thinking of doing that instead of driving this year.

Actually it hasn't been posted yet. I would expect that many of the people who do that are focused on PAX South right now. If like me you're coming from NYC (which I believe you are from previous posts), generally the two choices are the 86 (arrives early enough for Board Games, Pre-Dinner, Pub Crawl, but doesn't hook up with the other trains because it also leaves earlier) and the 176 that gets in later and lets people hook up from points south and west. These lines are called the "Knuckles" and "Sonic" line, respectfully.
Personally I'll be planing to take the 86. Last year I was about 30 seconds too late to Penn Station, though, and ended up taking the next train instead, which happened to be the 174. It was still well stocked with PAXers. If you need to buy a ticket right away, just get whatever time works for you and you can be assured there will be other PAX people on the train, but you'll probably see concentrations on either the 86 or 176, particularly among forummers. Wearing a PAX scarf helps identify you, but really just look for clusters of nerds riding to Boston in the middle of the day on a Thursday. They're probably going to PAX.
I don't think I've seen many people with them at PAX East previously, but are those tiny folding chairs allowed for when waiting in line? The ones that are essentially tiny tripods with a seat? And if so, anyone have any good suggestions for comfortable ones?
Can the BCEC room numbers be added to the maps next to the animal names for this year? It would go far in helping to navigate the place.
I agree that this would be terrific. I think it's been a request for a long time though, and given that it has never happened, I don't expect it to start now. We'll see though, maybe our wishes will come true.
is it just me or does it seem because of south stuff is getting annouced really late this year
Yeah. No musical acts announced yet, and it's 36 days away. Kinda surprising. I know it's because South just happened, but maybe they have scheduled South and East just too darn close together. Wasn't last year's East closer to April?
Just FYI, if your hotel is not the 1st one on the Pax shuttle route, you might see it go by without stopping because it filled up on the first hotel. This happens usually early on Fri because everyone is excited and wants to get there early. So have a back up plan (public transit, cab, etc...)
BTW, the BCEC is closest to the World Trade Center stop on the Silver Line, which you can get on at South Station (Red Line/Commuter Rail/Amtrak), and also directly from the airport. HTH.
This topic comes up from time to time in the registration or faq threads for each pax. There are no refunds, in general, for pax. Ultimately there is no official sanctioned method of resale. It would be great if there were. I know there's an unofficial face exchange on reddit that people use, but as with any place, ymmv.
Fwiw, it's not controversial or frowned upon to ask this sort of question, it's just not permitted to buy/sell badges here on these forums.
I sold my South badges on Ebay. I took a big loss, but I blame that on South's under-selling rather than on Ebay. Most people want pictures of the badges as proof. Don't show the whole number on the badge, though (general ticket selling rule of thumb), but do show the stickers and holograms. Show the ReedPop letter too.
ProTip: Call ahead to a FedEx or UPS store near the venue, and see if they will hold small packages. Then you FedEx/mail your badges ahead of time, addressed to yourself, but to the address of the store. Then when you finally sell the badges, you give the buyer your name, and the tracking number, and they can pick up the package with the badges with that. That way you can do a Ebay auction that runs up till close to the event date without having to worry about shipping delays.
I thought of this too late and paid a pretty penny for express shipping; I'd have saved plenty on that if I'd done it earlier. And if you do it early, even if you pass the shipping cost off to the buyer, it's cheaper than 2-day or overnight.
Whats the best place to play some Magic the Gathering at PAX East ?
Tabletop always has a pretty big Magic presence. If you have a specific group that you play with and don't want to deal with the crowds in Tabletop there are all kinds of little nooks and crannies where you and your friends can hide away for a a couple of hours to play .
Whats the best place to play some Magic the Gathering at PAX East ?
Along with what deestar said, Magic has lots of tournaments throughout all of PAX. I believe 3-4 extremely large rows are dedicated to Magic and you'll hear them on their own PA system informing all of tabletop that a new tournament is about to start so go sign up. While I have not participated in these, I'm told there are varying levels of difficulty, ranging from newbies on up so anyone and everyone is welcome to join. If you are interested, go ask some of their staff. Just like the rest of PAX, they are very friendly and helpful.
For the past 3 years, the Magic tables have been located in the tabletop area, to the far left of the queue lines, just on the other side of the curtain from the Intel PC Freeplay area, next to the escalator. (see image below of last year, spoiled for size)
While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.

Just as additional information, there are sealed events and there are constructed events. Modern does not seem to be big and you might wait a while for a tournament to fill up, but standard and sealed tend to fill up pretty fast.

Is PAX doing anything to help prevent another measles outbreak?
Serious question. Recent events have made it clear that some people trust voodoo instead of the entire medical and science communities. I haven't had much cause for concern in the past, but I'll be bringing an infant with me this time and my wife brought up the subject.
Just thought I'd throw the question out there so that people are at least mindful.

To be honest, you can't do much. I'm sure everything will be cleaned prior to the show, but the last outbreak in Boston occurred based on someone being on the subway. If you're vaccinated, you're in the clear and will see no issues. Also - clean your hands on a regular basis and don't touch strange people.
I would be more worried about the flu. You are more likely to catch that at PAX. Get your flu shot and bring some hand sanitizer. Otherwise get enough sleep, try to eat healthy, you know common sense stuff. Every year lots of people go home sick from the flu or a more mundane virus. But there is nothing you can realistically do to prevent disease other than hand sanitizer which is scattered by most of the entrances. It's the nature of cramming 50,000 people in a relatively small space.
I know some things are delayed so just wondering if the badgers are out.
Showclix site shows as shipped for most of my friends and I so I assume they are going to start being received soon. I don't know where they ship out of though.
Somone mentioned passes were marked as shipped and an email to pax questions responded that they are in the warehouse being prepared to get shipped out, so expect them in the next few weeks or so, but not in 3-5 days like you would think.
Hi, this is my first PAX and my wife bought passes for our anniversary, unfortunately she was only able to get Friday and Sunday as Saturday sold out almost immediately.
I wanted to try to get a Saturday pass, and they seem to be going for about 150$ on ebay and on stubhub. I also have been told that it is best to get them at the show Saturday morning, but having never seen this in action I am not sure how that actually works.
So I have two questions I was hoping I could get help with: First what is a "fair" price for a Saturday pass?, I know that this is rather arbitrary but I am interested in what is the range that people have paid for a Saturday pass in the past so I don't get ripped off. Second, how does finding tickets the day off actually work? Will there be people milling around selling them? What is the best way to get these Saturday passes, online or there?
If things don't work out I'll just have a look around Boston, but it would be nice if I could see the Front...
We don't really deal with second hand passes on these forums. A "fair" price, as you say, is very subjective. I would deem a fair price to be the face value of the ticket, but I know that resellers are not using that metric as they are out to make money.
Fair is whatever the market will pay for it, which is about what you priced it at. That having been said every PAX I've been to lately has had people selling them outside the convention often for lower than is online, and you can check the passes inside to make sure they are authentic. Of course you risk not getting one, but Boston is awesome to visit
Any word if there will be a return of the big security presence at the entrances?
Just curious
I hope not, it kinda made getting into the con a big pain
I mean seriously they're patting us down like criminals, while the Pats Duck Boat Parade was literally every other person drunk out of their skulls on the train TO the parade.

You can't crowd 80,000 into a small area without a big security presence. Otherwise, putting it in the best way I can, it can make an event like this a "target."
Trust me, it is worth the time getting into the con.

Bull crap. You need a badge to get at the 80,000 people. But any idiot could make a run for the checkpoint lines. All you've done is move your crowd from a relatively restricted free-flowing indoor area to an outdoor plaza where people are crammed together. You've CREATED a target. One would think we learned a lesson from the Russian airport attack several years ago, but obviously not. Politicians must be seen to be "doing something" to combat vague terrorist threats, and scared citizens are perfectly willing to be herded along like cattle without thinking about WHY, so we get this. Security theatre at its literal worst, making us all more annoyed and demonstrably less safe.
Edited to add: thankfully it's not that big of an imposition and moved relatively quickly. But I take issue with the notion that it makes us any safer whatsoever.

The idea is not to stop people from doing anything crazy, it's to deter them. If they see a large area full of people and a security presence, the idea is that they are less likely to try anything. There are many bad security measures that are just for that purpose. You can't call the line of people before security a target because you can say the same thing about airport check in.
But that is all besides the point. The security does not take that long to get through, the lines move pretty quickly and I say it's worth the time of day for security.
If you have everything ready to be searched before you get to the security personnel, it goes quite smoothly. Every person who searched my bag was polite and quick. Plan on there being the same type of security. If there is not, it's a plus for not having to wait in line. If there is, at least you were prepared.
I honestly think some people were making too big of a deal about there being a security check. If it's there, just deal with it and move on into our gaming Mecca. Or don't go. It's your call.
While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.
ya honestly I did not think it was that big of a deal and really they barely looked at your bags or anything kinda pointless for them to be there in my opinion but not a big deal that they were

Bingo. The security check wasn't bad at ALL last year- even with me cosplaying as Max Payne with a pair of toy pistols in my bag (which I made sure to inform them of BEFORE they started looking)
I'm looking for a single Saturday pass-- am I up a creek without a paddle if I try to look on eBay (i.e. scammers or markups) or is there some other outlet/resale source I haven't thought of that would be preferable?

I have 3 Friday & Saturday passes for PAX East that I no longer need. If the ticket site says no refunds, what should I do?
There is a subreddit about pax east ticket resale for face value. I'm sure somone there would be glad to take them off your hands.
