I know there will be a coat check. But will we also be able to check boots as well? We'll need boots to get to the BCEC, but everyone will wanna change into comfortable sneakers/shoes once inside the building.
Wrap those babies in a trash bag and hang it from your coat hanger :P but OMG it is going to smell like so much wet clothing at the coat check -_-
I found the best solution to this was to wear some comfortable waterproof hiking boots. Comfortable to walk in, but will give you enough protection for the amount of snow that will be on the ground.
Another option: wear waterproofed shoes (you can get a spray at any shoe store) and bring a change of socks in your bag. Accept that you'll get wet feet on the way in (just try to avoid jumping in puddles). Change into your dry socks in the bathroom when you arrive. You do then have to carry around wet socks all day, though. But it keeps your misery to only a few blocks.
Is there any reason this year that the BCEC parking lot won't be as easy to get into first thing in the morning as it was last year? We had a super easy time getting convenient parking in the BCEC lot each day last year. But last year was our first year, so I don't know if that's normal or not. Was that a fluke or was it the normal experience?
I didn't see if it was mentioned yet, but PAX East falls on daylight savings time AGAIN this year. Lose an hour Sunday morning, adjust your schedules accordingly.
I don't quite remember what it was last year, but I was wondering what the price of the scarves usually are. Also, do the PAX Merch booths accept cards or cash only?

The scarves on the PA store are $25, so that would be a safe bet.
PA booth definitely takes both cash and credit.
Is it PAX <insert nearest future PAX here> yet?

Haven't had time to go through the entire thread, but I figure I'd put this here, as one of my biggest gripes as an attendee is knowing the Breakout room numbers with the names.
Thank you! I don't know why they don't use the room names that the convention center uses so that the hanging signs are relevant.
It's actually pretty easy once you realize that flying things go on the third floor, walking things on the second, and swimming things on the first floor, and it goes ABCD as you look at the map!
Another question: In Khoo's letter, he says that they'll be using the meeting space in the Westin. However, I don't seem to see any map in the Guidebook, nor do I see any events planned for the Westin. I'm assuming that the maps and schedules will be updated soon?

are you allowed to bring alcohol into pax if your over 21?
You can't bring any in, but you can buy alcohol to drink in the bar area of the food court.
Just want to make sure this gets read. Alcohol absolutely positively cannot be brought into PAX. On the first floor food court there is a Sam Adams which does serve alcohol, but it must be consumed in that area, and BCEC staff will be enforcing that. They are well within their rights to remove you from the premises and possibly make it a police matter, so please don't do anything stupid in that regard.
I'm arriving in Boston on the 4th (Making a trip of the hole thing). I have never been to a PAX before or to Boston for that matter...
Where do I go to pick up my Tickets (that I payed for a wile ago)?
What is the earliest time they can be picked up?
Can they be picked up on say Thursday to cut down on the wait times?
Thanks!

You would go to the Reg desk and look for the "will call" area, which is likely to be to your right as you come in the main doors.
You can see it in the North Lobby on the maps. https://guidebook.com/guide/29381/map/37306/
They are generally open when the outside doors open each day, about 8am ish. However they very often have badge collect hours Thursday afternoon\evening as well, exact times on those will likely be released via the official_pax twitter, but sometime like 2pm-8pm ish.

I believe the craft beer trade is happening not inside (for that reason).
As for food, I pack a lunch and a bunch of snacks each day. The prices for food in the BCEC are pretty high, and restaurants are... well they are restaurants and I normally cannot afford to eat out to begin with, so PAX is even more of a no-no for eating out to me.
While I agree that being insensitive is an issue, so is being oversensitive.
I saw there is a Pokemon and Smash tournament this year. Now I saw also there is a Pokemon League, is the Pokemon tournament listed actually just a Pokemon League? If it isn't what are the rules? Also what are the rules to the Smash Wii U tournament?
From my experience, small snacks will get you through to the end of expo hall hours. Water is more of a concern than food. Restaurants directly around the convention tend to be absolutely packed after the show, but there are some good options.
I live in an area not accustomed to the Winter Apocalypse gripping Boston and have no experience with good waterproof boots for walking in. Does anyone have any recommendations for comfortable options?

Columbia Bugaboots (with a good pair of wool socks) are really great for keeping your feet warm and dry in the cold weather. The MSRP is pricey on Bugaboots so look for a sale. I would also recommend trying them on at a local store if you can. You may have to go a size up.
The pokemon league is done unofficially. Its separate from the pax tournaments. There is a thread on here with a the details, but basically if you see someone with a bright green Pokémon scarf, flag em down and challenge them. The tournament is traditional tournament structure.
Sure, but if there's at least something organized, there would probably be more people and people who have a better expectation of what is going to be there.

Really? Last year I was walking around with a buddy double fisting beers and never had an issue. The security guards even watched them for us when we would step outside to smoke.

There is more of a concern with bringing alcohol from outside. As for drinking outside of the Sam Adams bar, if someone tells you to go back, just do it. If they don't care, then more power to you.

If you are new to boots, do NOT wear brand new boots all day. You will get blisters and your feet will be very upset. Boots need a period of breaking in before they can be worn all day. If you must have new boots (because you don't have yet), bring a change to good indoor walking shoes... actually can you check boots at the check?

The rule seems to be enforced differently depending on who is on duty and what time it is. I've seen folks carrying beers back down to the tabletop area after the expo hall had closed in past years, but I also know that it's technically against the rules. I wouldn't try it, myself, just not worth risking the PAX experience over a disagreement with security. Given this is the official Q&A thread, I'd say the official answer is well-known and that as with any rule that relies on human enforcement you may see it unequally enforced.

I was thinking of Volunteering some of my services this year (I am a Therapist).
"Take This AFK Room" is on the Guidebook map. (2NW next to Bumblebee). So it looks like a yes.
The scarves on the PA store are $25, so that would be a safe bet.

It will indeed be there, for volunteering you can look here http://www.takethis.org/volunteer/

This can be anybody. I'd like the link so I can give it to my friends. I heard that PAX usually Doesn't stream the first round.

Definitely don't expect to carry it in
