I just feel that is such a broad statement that you could also use it to describe, say, the original X-Men. A very different thing.

like what you want, but I've seen nothing that convinces me this isn't just as much a radical departure as Snyder's Superman.

And nothing has made this seem like anything more than the generic Hollywood action movie to me.

yeah thats fine dude, like I said I just heavily disagree

the difference between power rangers and x-men is that the core focus is friendship and using it to solve inward and outward problems

That can be an element of x-men but isn't really the core identity the way I feel it is with PR, and so far the movie seems to be focusing on that as well, so I'm pretty happy with the direction its taking

I'm sorry you disagree and I do think that comparing it to snyder is massively off base when it already has a bunch of jokes and sense of fun to it, but thems opinions

My biggest concern from the trailer was that it looks to be focusing more on the superhero aspect of MMPR (because duh, that's the big thing now) while ignoring the martial arts aspect.

Most of the time it was the kung-fu choreography that I loved most about Power Rangers. Heck, half the damn show has them practicing in a dojo!

None of the actors look like they're going to be doing much flipping and kicking, at least convincingly, especially with those bulky power armor suits.

That's been a concern of mine since we saw those bulky suits. One of my favorite things about the original show is how the actors are all really talented at various physical arts, and just about every episode is guaranteed to have some fun technical fighting in it. Martial Arts is a huge part of the franchise's identity and I really don't want them to lose that in this movie.

At the end of the day, Power Rangers is a Sentai series: it is firmly rooted in its Japanese heritage of acrobatics, elaborate team poses, and random explosions and sparks during said poses.

Any attempts to Americanize that, especially if this movie tries to emulate Marvel and/or Michael Bay, is doomed to immediate failure. It's one thing to remove the campiness from something like Batman...doing the same to Power Rangers is like making a Spider-Man film where he doesn't crack jokes.

I'm sorry, I have to go back to this

    Power rangers is an Americanization

it is taking another idea and using it as a base and leaping off of that

thats literally the core and beginning of what it is

Power Rangers is not Sentai and actually, usually, when it sticks closer to the sentai its REALLY BAD (Samurai, Wild Force, etc)

Diverging from the sentai is something the show has always done and is better for it

If you don't like the trailer thats ok! But saying that making power rangers an Americanization is ruining it is a vast misunderstanding of what the show is

I'm comparing it to Snyder in the sense that I feel the characters and tone are as far away from their source material as they are in his movies. Not in an identical way, but similar in scale.

I would just be personally disappointed if all of the fighting in the PR movie looked like a copy and paste of the same kind of action we see in most Hollywood superhero movies, especially coming off a series that was originally praised for its martial arts choreography (even when the actual actors were doing their own stunts).

So many action scenes in today's movies are unsatisfying and CG-heavy. Fighting in a Power Rangers movie should leave you feeling pumped and wanting to do push-ups in the theater.

Snyder's superman takes a character that is about hope and makes the entire tone of the film one of hopeless terror

This takes a live action cartoon about friendship and turns it into an action adventure film (fairly serious but with jokes) about friendship

    I don't think there comparable

    But again, 'pinions

That said no hard feelings dude but I am gonna bounce before I start being a jerk

Yeah I really hope there is way more martial arts than it feels like there is.

all the fights in the movie have actual actors or stuntmen in the suits

they also built practical zord cockpit sets and have the actors in the suits on the sets

Yeah to the movie's credit it sounds like there are practical effects and stunts in this. I'm sure it will be blended with a certain degree of CGI but that's still definitely a point in its favor.

I watched the trailer. My opinion is that it looks really generic and there's not really anything about it that interests me. But after thinking about it some, the zords could totally win me over, because that is something that's kind of unique to Power Rangers, and we know they're in there, and robots are cool.

Other than a Bay-former. Which I pretty much expected. Not any less disappointed by it, but still.

That figure screams all the fun right out of a potential PR movie.

It doesn't even look sleek or cool, just a bunch of metal mushed together like Devastator in ROTF.

interestingly enough it looks exactly the kind of thing that should be fighting cloud in an off series jrpg to me. like a kingdom hearts, but not that.

Someone elsewhere said it looks like a zord a villain would be piloting and I agree.

If that thing was Cyclopsis I would be down with it for sure.

But as the actual Megazord itself, it's awful.

Let's face it, the design process most likely went like this.

The Casting: "Make it like Hunger Games"

The Suits: "Make it like Iron Man"

The Zord: "Make it like Transformers."

I couldn't wait for the final volume to be released so I started going through what I do have of Dino Supercharge. Yeah, so far this hasn't been as good as the first season. Mainly I'm just annoyed that it's become the Tyler Navarro power-up (half) hour. Which I know was inevitable from the sentai, but still. However stuff like giant bags of money with dollar signs on them or a Spikeball with a paper shopping bag is still charming to me.

I'm really trying to find something to like about that Megazord and the best I can come up with is that it looks like the "horns" might still do the fold-around thing.

    Which is pretty weak.

I know hollywood gonna hollywood, but I was hoping for a modernization closer to Netflix's Voltron than Bay's Transformers.
