So I was looking at a game from the Humble Sale and the Steam reviews indicated it was worth picking up. However, Steam signed me out so Enhanced Steam didn't flag it as already owned. Obviously I couldn't redeem to to my account. When I tried to gift the game instead, I didn't see an option to gift and there was a notice that I wouldn't receive extra giftable copies of games I already own.

Is there a way to gift it that I'm not seeing or is it locked in my Humble library?

Isn't there a little picture of a box you can click to gift it?

There doesn't appear to be a gift box if you buy it straight from the store. At least there isn't if you don't mark it as a gift when you are checking out. Apparently it works differently than when you buy bundles.

I've been through this, and I think @Iolo has as well. Essentially it won't stop you from redeeming it to your account even though you have it already. Humble Bundle looks at that key as tied to you now.
I accidentally clicked on a gift link before giving it to someone once. If you email their customer service and give them your transaction info they will unlink it. It took like a week or so for me, but it was during summer sale craziness.

All of this Carrier Command talk got me to look into what's up with the game these days. There is a patch that has been in beta for a bit (you can opt into it the usual way) and there is also a small modding community for the game now. The beta patch of course contains further refinements to unit pathfinding and such. And if you dislike the Walruses handling the Gripmod2 gives the Walrus a tighter turn radius and jacks the traction of its tires way up. With the mod you can apparently climb just about any hill and just yolo your way through mud and rocks for the most part. The higher traction does mean that you can get stuck on rocks easier now, so you'll still need to use a hook.

Reports of the game's abandonment were definitely premature. It obviously wasn't a big enough seller to get laser focused support but BIS is pretty good about curating their games. I was the only one who voted for this game as my GOTY in MCC's yearly poll, and I still stand by it. Sure there were more popular games or games with a more consistent technical execution but no one else had tackled anything with this kind of scope and granularity that year as far I knew.

That just makes me love you more, dude. 2012 was a year I sat out MCC's poll, but it was number 2 on my own personal list for the year (#1 was Mass Effect 3) - and that based on the 360 version, that, unlike the PC release, only got one patch (IIRC).

are you looking at your steam keys section? in the order email they sent, it should take you directly to the page of games in the bundle. at the top are the options for steam keys, and a 'click here for flipfly' key. if you go to the steam keys section (logged in to humble bundle) does it show "click here to redeem on steam" or "redeemed on datetime by steam name"?

If anyone wants in on Hawken (it's free to play) this Friday (6:00 Pacific/9:00 Eastern), I'd recommend you download the game from Steam and sign up beforehand. You have to do a short tutorial before you you jump online, plus you'll want to get acclimated to the controls and weapons/items since the feel is different from other shooters (even other mech shooters).

After you sign up, head to the playhawken.com website and click redeem code at the top right, and enter the code NEWRECRUIT for a free three day XP boost.

Also, after you play for an hour you get 500MC (the premium currency) that you can use to pimp out your starter mech with some nice camo. They all start out as an ugly unpainted gray, so dropping a few MC on a color or camo pattern will do wonders for your robo-baller level.

Also, the default fov is 75, which is kinda low. I'd recommend bumping it up to 90.

Also, add SmokeStacks to your friend's list.

    Also, check out this pyramid:

It's sloooow going with Dark Souls, partly due to real life being very busy at the moment (job applications are not fun), partly because I'm shite at the game, but mostly due to friends giving slightly terrible, if truthful, advice.

The frog things in the depths cursed me, so I was running around with half health. I don't want to hit any spoilers so I asked a friend how to remove a curse rather than looking it up and he pointed me to the ghostly ruins. After hacking my way through there, dying about 40 times, and shitting myself twice due to those bloody banshee wails, I decided to explore other avenues. That's when I found the lady selling curse removal items right next to the starting zone. Grrr.

So, after freeing myself of the curse the Gaping Dragon is no more, and it's on the Blighttown. Fun.

If I were on wifi it'd be about half that-ish. I have most of the rooms in the house wired, so I have my PC plugged right into the router, but I leave everything else wireless just for the simplicity of it, and consistent connection isn't as important.

Still, pretty happy with century link fiber over comcast. Comcast was terrible; I had the best non-commercial speed in our old place and I was lucky if I hit 8mb/s. And it dropped. All. the. fucking. time.

I tried to convince my wife to let me get the 1gb fiber, or at least the 100mb/s one, but she didn't think we really needed it.

Psh, she's so wrong. I need those bits faster! :P

So, because I was sucked into a Skyrim Vortex and can't seem to get out of it, I have an SSD question.

If I use the Steam Mover thing, will it move my save files and mods over too? Doesn't that get a little messy?

Save yourself the heartache. Just manually copy the whole Skyrim folder to your new Steam folder on your SSD (assuming that's your goal) and then just tell Steam to "install" the game - it'll find it, validate it, and you'll be on your way. (source: this worked for me to move my game from old hard drive to new hard drive when I rebuilt system, with no muss, no fuss)

Because I *seriously* doubt Steam mover is going to move mods and such.

You will probably have to reconfigure whatever mod manager of choice you're using as well, as it's doubtless looking for game and mod files in the old location. I use Bash for instance (oldest, best, yay) and it looks for stuff in "C:/steam/steamapps/common/Skyrim Mods/" and it is pathed to put mods in the skyrim folder. I have less experience with NMM or Mod Organizer to know what their inner working are. I'd guess messy is a possibility.

Your saves, on the other hand, should be fine where they are: skyrim saves games to your "my documents" folder (My docs/my games/skyrim/saves).

Oh no! An error occurred. I moved files, told Steam to re-install on my SSD, and it went through "Discovering User Files," then gave me an error.

    I feel filthy.

I had AT&T for years, and they've worked well. When I came back from my trip, I re-upped my Internet and while it did increase, I was locked out of my account for a week while it was "processing" and despite spending literally hours on the phone with them, they couldn't get it out of the "processing" state. So that made me look at competitors, and Comcast's SLOWEST Internet was faster than the FASTEST Internet uverse offered. Basically, I'm getting 10x the Internet speed (was supposed to be 8x, but I'm getting 120 instead of 100 for WHO KNOWS WHY BUT I'M NOT COMPLAINING) down and ~15x up compared to what I used to for ~20 bucks less a month.

    So yeah....whoo comcast?

I may actually like...start hosting some L4D2 games local now with my friends because I'll actually be able to handle it.

Charter apparently started bumping their 30mbps subscribers to 60 since the beginning of this year, but I never noticed because the goddamn thing kept on dropping when the weather started heating up. Wrote a quick script to log the insanity and it was like 15-20 drops an hour, taking a minute to reacquire a link (and sometimes it drops during that and has to retry -- do the math on that) until it was well into the evening. Having atrociously unreliable Internet is, in many ways, worse than slow poverty Internet. It made me really miss that 1.5mpbs DSL line I used to have.

Wouldn't really be a thing except it took a god fuck number of service calls before they sent a baller ass dude who was like "fuck this shit imma install this new line over/through these fuckin plants don't a fuuuuuuuuk" and now life is good again.

Hooray family internet, although there was that one time I was buying clearwire to make up for all of comcast's crashes.

I just realized something, few RTS games have given me the feeling that Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander gave me when I brought in my naval artillery in to support my land forces. That is a sense of satisfaction and coordination that cannot be defeated.

Wow, the Humble support is fast. It seems that when one purchases a bundle, you buy it for yourself and gift the games out. When one buys a single game, the 'Purchase as gift' option has to be checked before buying.

Strange, but the support rep was very helpful.

Also, I'm 47Mbps up and down from the office. At least part of that is fast...
