Like if you walk up to someone who went to high school in America and say

If I read any Chaucer, I've suppressed that memory. Literature was not my strong suit in school.

they did Canterbury Tales in my high school's english curriculum and I couldn't have told you what that passage was

probably could've guessed Chaucer given about 20 mintues though

I watched God Helps The Girl and How to Train Your Dragon 2 the other night and they were both pretty good!

The former had a great soundtrack and I really like Emily Browning and Hannah Murray. It's plot was a bit light but it was just really fun to watch. Then, HTTYD2 was a great sequel! My girlfriend didn't like it as much as I did but I am a big Toothless fan and I could watch him for hours being silly and making faces.

Yeah, I probably would've gotten the reference from the first verse, but there's no way I would have been able to recite the next verse.

And I've got a B.A. in English lit.

I was catching up on some canterbury tales during a break in my basketball game and the Ultimate Hustler rappelled down from the ceiling and said "yo they call you 'middling english' because when you try to put english on the ball you goddamn mediocre at it" and I didn't respond because I was still trying to figure out the insult and then he took the book from me and made a slam dunk with it and said "you eat more ass than in the miller's tale, son" and I said "damn? I guess?"

You might be confusing "High School in America" with "bizarre, Chaucer themed government mind control experiments".

    Again.

That or it was heavily summarized, I don't remember which

There were no unfamiliar words though

Most people had to wait YEARS before they could do Chaucer.

When we read Canterbury Tales in english, students who chose the Middle English version of the book got +20% credit on the test

Despite it being the perfect nerd challenge for me I read the first page and went with the translated version

I had the recommended text (middle english), but I also managed to pick up a translated version and a collection of critical essays from famous authors from a garage sale. That was very helpful.
