Oh man, vengeance missions are rad. I Just avenged Veretas while doing so I got jumped by two other captains and nearly died. Felt like they killed him to draw me out and I took the bait on that trap.
Hahaha I saw that pop up. I got 100xp for avenging me.
I was wondering if it was beneficial to your buddies, that's awesome.
Bought this for PC, but unfortunately won't be able to play for about a week (in the middle of packing and moving to Colorado from Austin, TX). How are the controls on KBAM? I've got a gamepad, but I played the batman games with KBAM.
...there's a great idea here, but not enough of a game.
I pretty strongly disagree with that.
Just go with it. I've decided that if Bubby says a game is bland or shallow, I'm going to find it the opposite.
I like it a lot though, I'm just saying they should reach a lot higher for the next one. Titanfall and this are the two big new IP's with huge potential this year, Watch Dogs and Destiny total duds.
Man, firing yourself out of a bow is just the greatest move ever. Sorry Ork Archer, I don't even really want to kill you but you'll take me across the map much faster, so you have to die now.
I liked it. It was tough as balls, took me a long time - and I had to go off and figure the game out a bit more before returning to face him again. It showed me that I was wrong in thinking the game would be as easy as Arkham city - and it was super satisfying when I finally did kill him in an epic fashion.

Woah woah woah.
What?
you get a "teleport" to your elf shot target, later in the skill tree.

I like the KBAM, personally. I've fiddled around with both and can do the melee combat just fine with either, but KBAM makes archery a lot easier and most of what are multiple button combos on the controller can be assigned to a single key or are a keystroke with either shift or the spacebar held down, not that hard at all.
And anyone on PC that wants to avenge me, my Steam handle is the same as my forum name, or for those that prefer a straight link:
I just only did the first story mission and I am in love. If not for Bayonetta 2, this would have GOTY locked down already.
Only silly complaint so far is that after the tutorial, before I could even kill a single orc the game didn't force me to kill, I got ambushed by a captain who somehow magically knew I was in a bush and yelled "YOU! I've been looking for you for a long time!" Dude, come on, I've been in Mordor for less than 5 minutes.

Goddamn Borgu the Wanderer. I know this orc's name because he's killed me twice and I've killed him at least five times. He just keeps coming back.
I love the nemesis system.
Sounds like my relationship with Skak Guhl Lover. He killed me no less than 6 times, I "defeated" him 4 different times, and when I finally killed him he was sporting headstraps to hold his half-melted face together, an eye-patch, his breastplate was jacked up and his crossbow looked mangled.
By that point he was immune to damn near everything, only thing I could exploit was a fear of Morgul Flies and I could only hurt him with fire/explosions. He happened to show up in a stronghold with 3 fly nests and lots of nice fires and grog barrels. It took all 3 flies nests and 4 explosions but the asshole finally went down. Hilariously this kill coincided with the Royals' comeback victory celebration (after the hit, during the postgame group hug), so I basically had a joygasm.

Can anyone tell me when you get the ability to command orcs? Is it far through the game? I really want to send another pet through the Uruk hierarchy.
After you complete the first open area, another unlocks and you get the ability there through a main story mission (just focus on the queen's missions).

Another little thing I find cool are the small snippets of past conversations Talion had with various people playing when you first load a game. Reminds me a lot of the audio logs in Bioshock and Borderlands, small little hints of backstory that help tell you who Talion was and what lead him to be stationed near the Black Gate.

Finally got time to play a couple hours of this tonight, damn, I am straight up hooked.
I feel like the voice acting is of exceptionally high quality and I love the writing but second one might just be because I am an ultra Tolkien dork.
Can't wait to spend my entire weekend binging on this
Well that was a piece of double captain-killing luck! I was heading to pick up some ithildin, and I ledge-killed a bowman on the way. I noticed some uruk came to check on the body so I tried to stealth kill the dude from the ledge above. No can do, it was a captain. But, he was alone, no reinforcements, so a couple of quick jabs, a couple of finishing moves and he's done. Just as he's almost dead, another captain shows up, again alone, and again dead after a couple of moves and a finishing move or two.
The strength of the game is clearly in these kinds of narratives and situations that can come out of nowhere.

I was going for an Ambush, and a random third wandered into the bush I was waiting in, because everyone was vulnerable to stealth. So all the orcs were dealing with the ambush while I killed orthug, and then that resolved, and then I just followed the winner and his entourage, and killed all of them.
I had my most infuriating experience yet with this game yesterday, personified by a big, fat, cowardly goose named Barfa. He was armed and armored to the teeth despite only being a mid-ranked captain, wielding a huge shield and immune to the vault move, which combined with his summoning ability and toughness made him extremely hard to deal with. All this made him a perfect recruit, and so I started my hunt. During our first battle I swiftly killed and branded his troops, and it wasn't long before Barfa was running for his life. I gave chase, but so did a nearby Caragor, and as I tried to get it off his back to save my future captains life it ate me.
That first encounter pretty much set the pattern for our relationship. I would show up, beat the crap out of him, and Barfa would run away, usually with me dying in the process. Caragors, berserkers, other captains, everyone had a go. At one point I recruited another uruk captain to use as distraction, setting up an ambush on a bridge. Barfa murdered him in about 10 seconds. When he inevitably began to flee into the nearby stronghold I pinned him, only for one of my branded orcs to free him with an axe hit, and as I tried to grab him the same branded uruk got in the way and got grabbed in Barfa's stead. Halfway through the stronghold I catch up to him, and Celebrimbor growls "SUFFER ME NOWooof!"
Yeah, I got hit during the last tenth of a second of the animation.
At this point Barfa flees to executioners watch, the deepest part of the largest stronghold in the zone. For a while I hold off on my hunt, figuring any attempt at him in there would be doomed, but eventually I gather my courage and make my way inside. I spend a couple of minutes building an army, branding dozens of uruks, until I finally feel ready to face my nemesis. Turns out he wasn't alone. Two other captains are nearby, but at that point I was too committed to back off.
I wish I could say the battle was epic, but it was nothing special. Orcs died by the dozens, branded and pure alike, and the captains fell one by one. Finally only Barfa, me and a single branded orc remained. A minute later he was mine.
He is a warchief now, and I look forward to bringing him with me to the final battle.

I'm only 15% of the way through the game, give or take.
But I would absolutely love it if the game had an alternate "because of your actions, this shall come to pass" ending that comes of never killing Ratbag, wherein Ratbag kills Frodo and Gollum at Mount Doom, takes the One Ring, and the last image is of the Nazgûl kneeling before their new master as the new Dark Lord Ratbag does the Napoleon Dynamite dance.
I can only dream.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
Funniest moment for me was when I over extended trying to knock of a war chief... he was pretty much invulnerable to everything and had that damn war horn.
Fortunately he was scared of flies, which I promptly delivered to him whilst he was waltzing around a stronghold.
Thus began a ridiculous yakky sax routine where I madly jumped between buildings and ground, trying to pin him long enough to finish him off. Unfortunately by this time practically every Uruk in Mordor had joined in and every time I hit the ground I was essentially swimming in a sea of green skins. Another problem was I had 3 other Captains chasing me at this point too... one called Grombur was a particular bastard who was throwing flaming spears of doom and must have had additional damage buffs on top of fire as he could practically two shot me.
I finally cornered this idiot war chief in the heart of the stronghold but I just couldn't do enough damage nor grab him for long enough to finish him off... had him right down to a sliver of health when all three Captains descended on me. Blocked one, rolled out of the way of the other only to get tagged liked a chump by mister flamey spear. I was epically pissed off I had just spent like 10 solid minutes getting the run around... only to die right before the killing blow. Only wait, I had a last chance still! Ok good - get me enough life to get out of this situation... as there was no way I was going to take out 100 uruk plus three captains.
Did the animation, wherein Talion proceeded to block the spear, grab it and hurl it back at the Captain... hurl it straight through his face and smash out the other side. Grombur eats a spear and bites the dust.
Apparently he was vulnerable to combat finishers, and I had the last chance combat finisher ability.
I also had an epic rune which gave me full health and focus upon killing a captain.
On top of that, BOTH remaining captains, clearly seeing how ridiculously bad ass I was, turned coward and fled!
So I got up, spun around to face the war chief and calmly put an arrow right through his eyeball, completing the mission.
I unlocked power struggles and did one, but in the middle of it I get jumped by a second captain, then a third!
I died, everybody got promotions, and two new captains were made.
So I tell myself okay going to kill one of those assholes, then I'll go to bed.
So I do, then I noticed there was a power struggle right next to a fast travel tower. I highlight it and son of a bitch. It's that first Captain I was after when two others jumped me.
Well I had to go kill him. So I'm fighting him and out of nowhere two of those dog things show up.
Well I died to them and that fucker I was after got a promotion.
I stayed up 2 hours later than I should tracking him down. But I got him. Finally.
Also, interrupting a duel between two captains that can both be killed by charged bow headshots is hilarious.
Investing in the talent that snares an enemy when you shoot them in the leg is the smartest thing I've ever done in this game. It's been useful on more occasions than I can count.
Also fuck youuuuu Orchuk the Wrestler.
He killed me once, got immunity to combat finishers, then repeatedly hunted me down (oh yeah, he runs faster than a cheetah) and killed me till he was invulnerable to everything except Caradors and Ranged shots. Oh yeah, and he had a poison weapon so as soon as I ate an attack I couldn't see the timing to block.
And because if I wanted to hunt him down he was always in a mission, I couldn't bring a carador with me.
Ended up having to wait until he got ambushed, lost a chunk of health to ambush + my arrows, then waited till he ran, shot him in the foot and finished him off while his men were fighting the ambushers.

@GnomeTank avenged. I gave that motherfucker the pointy end.
Only two orc captains have managed to take me down so far and I got revenge on the second one. The first one though, Zob, is an incredible badass that has killed me several times now. He looked scrawny as fuck in our first meeting, but not understanding the Executioner missions, I helped him kill his target, then he killed me... and it's just kind of snowballed from there. I think he can only be hurt by ranged attacks and fire now.... Does the wraith attack sequence count as regular combat attacks? That may be another option.

Went to a Duel between a level four that was vulnerable to being one-shot by a charged bow from stealth and a level six that had a long list of strengths but at least wasn't immune to arrows. Brought the level six down low enough for the level four to take him out, which then leveled up the level four to a level five and then I sniped him from my perch.
Also, didn't know if everyone knew this already but if you have multiples of the same rune (like Keen Eyed, which returns Focus on a fully charged stealth bow headshot) you can equip all of them and stack their effects. So on my bow, because I have two Keen Eyeds equipped, I return 65% Focus on stealth kill by a fully charged headshot. Whenever I need to clear an area now I find myself a perch and start headshotting until I run out of targets or arrows.
Fucking Nazdûg The Assassin was a right pain in my ass. Fucker would stalk me around the map and only attack when he saw I was surrounded, then would shoot me with poison arrows while everyone else whittled me down. He got me a good 3 times.
Once, I was walking across a plain when I saw two orcs behind me on my radar, so I quickly climbed a nearby tower, only to see him walk up and start sniffing around for me. Luckily, he couldn't find me, and wandered off.
Later, I stumbled on to him while he was all alone and killed him.
Didn't take his head off, though, so I'm sure he'll be back shortly.
An Execution power struggle, and the one performing the execution is this bastard I haven't been able to kill 3 times. 3 new captains have been born from me fighting this fucker. So I shoot him directly in the face, jump off the ledge, chase this other dude down, beat the shit out of him, interrogate him and crush his fucking throat. FINALLY.
I'm in an area where there's a captain, so I decide to take him out. Never seen him before. Get in a fight and uses his horn. Got a rune that sets people on fire when I counter them. Very good!
I finally took out the only captain to take me down personally, and it's a huge weight off my shoulders. This creeper would hunt me down at his leisure and drop me in a few hits. He was the bane of my existence for the first 5 hours of the game.
He never spoke. Every time we crossed swords, he would hiss and slurp, or howl with anger if I refused to engage him. Every time he defeated me, he would just stare and click his teeth. It took me three failed attempts to wise up and get some intel on him.
A straight up fight was suicide. Eventually I caught him in a fight with some lesser orcs and drew in some caragors to cause a fuss. They tore the bastard apart. I almost regret not having a proper showdown; so far, he's the only one that had proven a real challenge.
