What are the advantages of getting a fleet t6 ship instead guys? I'm tempted to pull the trigger on a fleet dreadnought but I'm not sure how the whole "fleet ships" thing works, I'm not using up fleet resources or anything like that if I get one am I?
It's been awhile since I played. I thought I'd finally log in and snag the new winter ship but I noticed they've switched to a new reward token this year. I should have enough time to complete it but a question: after you've unlocked the ship on one character do they still let you buy it on the cheap with your alts?

Yes, provided you have unlocked the event store on you alts (just go to WW if you havent) you can reclaim any event ships on the account for free. (The catch is that you have to have the ship commissioned on a character for it to register for reclaim). You can also buy other stuff with the old tokens, including spec points but I can't remember the prices offhand.
@Casual sorry I missed this, got buried in the bookmarks!

Fleet ships are better than standard t6 ships, they have an extra console slot and a bigger shield modifier as a rule. The catches are that A) they unlock one time on a per character basis they can't be reclaimed from the store and C) they don't come with the ship trait or special consoles that the cstore versions do. (They do get the 4 sub ranks though, just not the actual trait).
Buying a fleet ship does use up some of the "stock" of ships available, but this is replaced by running a rep project. Bear in mind that the cstore version also gives a discount on the module cost as well so you're not actually looking at [email protected] for both, rather just the one module to upgrade once you own the standard version. You can also find fleet modules on the Auction House if you have some spare EC sloshing around.

There are a few keys left for a free peregrine shuttle here at the time of writing it was about 5 thousand or so, but I don't know how long they will last. If you don't use ARC you can input the code here
So I donated some winter stuff to the currently slotted base project. Since winterland ends in a couple days let me know if I should buy a bunch of ornaments to finish off the project as I have some extra lobi. Also if anyone hasn't it is actually a great way to get rid of the various winter loot and get fleet marks fast.
Thanks to Snicketysnick for the crafting offer. I forgot my old main that I gave up before they gave us free reign on trait rerolls was space rich.
They're going to be giving away some free c-store unlocks from Jan 26th to Feb 1st. New featured episode available from Jan 28th to Feb 24th. Looks like the Anniversary event ship this year will be a Tier 6 Krenim science vessel.
I'm sort of getting the itch to play space combat again. How much has changed since the Dyson sphere stuff? I assume much of my gear and knowledge are obsolete. Just throw some vocab at me and I'll look it up.
Like are science boff powers still bad? is KDF still buggy and HUD red on red with red highlights? Is my max power some kind of special named doff crazy dps beam boat still good?

I'm sort of getting the itch to play space combat again. How much has changed since the Dyson sphere stuff? I assume much of my gear and knowledge are obsolete. Just throw some vocab at me and I'll look it up.
Major changes are:
Level cap is now 60
New tier of ships (t6)
A new crafting system (maybe? I'm not sure when that came in)
Traits got reworked, now separate ground and space pools, as well as ship traits from tier 6 ships. Can change your loadout whenever you want, rather than respeccing
Admiralty system added, it's like Doffing, but for ships.
At least 3 more branches of the Reputation system.
Gear can be upgraded to Mark 14, as well as upgraded in quality (ie green to blue to purple etc) all the way up to gold.
"Specialisations" added, which is essentially the Paragon system from Diablo3 but on a per character, rather than per account basis. (Extra perks like a traditional mmo talent tree, unlocking as you level to 60 and continuing to do so past the level cap to a current total of 105 points) Specialisations also allow different non-eng/sci/tac abilites to be trained and used by bridge officers in specific seats that allow it. These seats are mainly found in t6 ships.
As for the rest, it's the same game, but there's a load more story content added since you left. Now is a fair time to come back as the Anniversary will allow you to get a free t6 ship if you put in a bit of time each day, which might be a good start.
I came back after not having played since level 50-ish when the romulan stuff was new and I'm still figuring out what's the hell's going on in a lot of ways. Space combat's still fun though! thinking about setting up a gamepad to play with but seems like kind of a pain in the butt.
The nice thing about the Admiralty system is that a) it uses your old ships for the missions and b) a ship-garage was added around it's release so you can store some of your old ships away if you want to make room on your active list for others.
Great time to get back in. You can pretty much farm upgrades in the anniversary event. If you have been away for a while check your email. Many players received a code that gave instant lvl 60 and a t6 starship. Also beam boats are still great dps.
Is my max power some kind of special named doff crazy dps beam boat still good?
Yes. Oh my yes. One particular change of note is that beam overload now automatically crits when you fire it off. If you gear your ships for critical severity, you can do some positively insane spike damage with a beam boat.
Protip for farming the upgrades: from my own experience, 2000+ points seems to be the highest "tier" for getting rewards. I've never not gotten a green sliver when scoring at least 2000, and I can confirm that getting a perfect score (2700) does not guarantee the rare reward.
It's 1700 to guarantee a green omega particle. Blue and purple particles are completely random drops.
Yes. To expand, 2300 is the minimum score to get the highest guaranteed reward (1 sliver and 3 traces). I get a blue fragment maybe 10% of the time, and I have yet to get a purple drop.
Signed in to collect my tier 6 defiant. The admiralty thing is interesting and makes use of all those ships I have in reserve. Dunno if I'll play any of the iconian story I missed out on.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

If you mean the anniversary giveaway, it was only the tier 4 one.
There's pics of of the new tier 6 flagship variants. I might have to bring back my shipwank posts, some of those are pretty sexy.

Was that part of the anniversary giveaway or something else? I checked every day but never saw any ships other than the tier 4 stuff.
So with the valiant I completed the defiant set which gives them a battle cloak which is hella awesome on a fed ship. Only wish you could mount the set on a more durable class of ship.

This admiralty system, its doffing but with ships right? So I need to get my hands on as many ships as I can (which higher tier ones being better)

Ah, there is a lot to be said for having a good roster across the tiers. They have shorter cooldowns for starters. Most of my roster comes from either low level giveaway ships, once I had kept from levelling and some from the "sale" of dilithium ships during the admiralty release.
I am also kind of tempted by the flagships, but I'll wait til I can bag the 3pack for maximum space barbie. I've liked the Odyssey hull since the OG anniversary one from years ago and I could probably do a straight swap of my Geneva build over into the Science one. (Even if loosing a tac console would be painful)
A bunch of low tier ships also have neat specials, like +10 to all stats of all higher tier ships, which effectively turns a 4/5/3 ship into a 24/25/23 one when teamed with better ships. There's a lot of missions where even one tier 6 ship would be wasteful overkill when you can send a single tier 3 or a group of tier 1's and a shuttle.
The system is more complex than doffing, even if the basic idea is the same.
It would be fun to watch the ships fight. And to control colonies, space stations and shipyards across the galaxy. Oh wait I'm turning this into Master of Orion.

I usually don't mention these 14 day grind events, since aside from dilithium the rewards have been underwhelming, but this one starting tomorrow I have to mention, because A. it's attached to The Breach, which is an awesome mission that's getting a revamp to make it less of a prolonged grind, and B. the reward is an admiralty ship that basically invalidates your entire fleet: a Voth city ship with 53/39/43, which is crazy to begin with (better than the USS Pastak from the last FE or the USS Rhode Island from level 10 in the Fed campaign), but it gets boosted to 103/89/93 if it's sent alone.

I was expecting it to have a 36 hour cooldown to compensate..but nope, just straight OP.
Still, it'll be nice to do the breach again, was a fun queue that, even if I only got the optionals done one time.
18 hours is on the long side, but... yeah, honestly not that bad, especially when you remember that there's an undocumented 10k/day cap on campaign exp, so by the time you're ready to queue up the big missions it'll be used for, it'll be back in service (no cap on other rewards, though, so I pretty regularly burn myself down to shuttles anyway).
This will let Captains use the equipment that suits their playstyle, while simultaneously allowing them to customize their ships appearance with the equipment that suits their tastes. For example, if you like the look of the Romulan Shields, but like the stats on the Nukara Shields, you will be able to get the best of both by equipping the Nukara Shields to your ship, and the Romulan Shields to your new Visuals tab.
Only Deflectors, Impulse Engines and Shields that modify the appearance of your ship can be equipped in the Visuals tab. While equipped in the Visuals tab, the Visuals cannot be disabled either. The Visuals tab works with Loadouts and with automated equipment transfers to newly commissioned ships.
makes me wonder if there will be special no-stat items in future missions specifically designed to go in these slots.

Guess it depends on how soon they need to start filling new lock boxes.
On the subject of Admiralty, two cool ship icons were added for it in the last patch:
The Phoenix:
Assimilated Enterprise-E:
First Contact Day this year isn't just FC Day, but also the 20th anniversary of Star Trek: First Contact, so it's believed both will be FC Day rewards instead of/inaddition to the old Phoenix pet. A Temporal Ambassador style interference with the Enerprise-E's time travel shenanigans would be neat.
It's neat that they're starting to let us build fleets of unique and interesting ships and not just generic unnamed copies of our playable ships, not to mention taking advantage of how simple Admiralty ships are data-wise to just throw them at us here and there.
I really, really want them to go back through the campaign and add special level 60 reward packs to pick up all the ships that we assist or capture, like the USS Kirk or the IKS Targ.
