Badgey turns up with a clipboard and says, "Looks like you need to audit your inventory manifest. Let me help with that!"
Edit: So I don't usually drop this kind of EC but... Burned some millions on Bond with Pokemon.
Use it without a hostile target and it basically hails a special contact where you can see your available pets and set an active one.
With a hostile target that's a tamable species and under half health, you'll gain control of it immediately and it'll be added to that contact menu (repeatedly taming the same one is supposed to level them up, but I haven't worked on that yet). Use it with any other hostile target and your active pet will beam in.
They work kind of like pre-buff device pets or like kit module pets, they don't stick around permanently.
You can tame variants, many of the tamable animals come in multiple sizes, spiders come in a bunch of models, and you can tame armored and nanopulse targs (haven't had the chance to test demon pigs yet), but you only actually gain the default version regardless, taming a nanopulse targs gives you a regular targ right away and on subsequent summons.
Takes place while you're on the ground during the second episode and covers the eventual destruction of the IKS Targ and IKS Kristak in orbit. It's basically one of those linked twin boss fights you see in MMOs. Each boss has a different set of powers and its own invulnerability power, and each one's ultimate weapon can pierce the other's invulnerability and temporarily make them vulnerable.
You can stay within 4 km of one to slowly make progress on forcing them out of cloak, or get them hit with the other twin's big gun to do it instantly. When the Kristak is forced out, you can destroy one of its cloaking emitters, and when the Targ is forced out Adet'pa gets a chance to counter Akar's virus. Get 5 progress ticks on either ship and they both drop cloak and engage properly, at which point they're ridiculous damage sponges but have nothing special left offensively (neither one used their mycelial weapons at this stage).
If you get a clown car team it can take a while to make progress on the dreadnoughts while everyone chases targets everywhere (and there's a LOT of targets - imaging the Mars TFO except the enemies actually have some fight in them) but still feels like it might be my go-to for the rest of the event grind.
Ran To Hell With Honor for my daily yesterday. Yep, J'ula is still an honorless peta'q. It's a cliche but she should have
died doing something heroic and selfless in the new episode. Maybe ramming the superweapon before it could fire on Q'onos or a space bus full of targ puppies.
I've been watching some streams of this, and I'm wondering about a few things before making the choice to jump in:
How many ships and other cool things are locked behind cash purchases?
Is there an alternate way to get those ships and cool things?
Is there a way to earn the cash currency by grinding or something?
Do PC and console players play together?
Is there just one server/realm/galaxy/whatever?
Would starting as a Romulan be okay or dumb?

A fair number of ships and other cool things are in lockboxes which requires keys to open, but the base ships are still capable of doing all the content. Keys are, of course, purchasable from the store for fun-bucks (Zen). Fun-bucks can also unlock ships, ship packages, clothing options...
Keep an eye on the events for cool stuff. Right now they have an event grind to get a cool bat'leth and some additional gear if you log in and do one of a selection of specific mission each day for 20 days. Other events reward bridge officers, ships, or other cool stuff.
Dilithium will be earned in game, then can be refined and exchanged for fun-bucks on the Dilithium Exchange.
No. There is no cross-play.
Yes, just one server AFAIK. The game space is divided up into quadrants and the quadrants into sectors and the sectors into systems (where the missions actually are). Outside of TFOs (Task Forces) the game may as well be single player with a chat window in the corner in my experience.
Starting as a Romulan would be fine. As is starting in Starfleet (Normal, TOS or Discovery flavors) or Klingon. DO NOT START AS DOMINION. Dominion starts you out with a top level character and no clues how stuff works. It's like trying to learn to swim by jumping off a cruise ship mid journey.
How many ships and other cool things are locked behind cash purchases?
Most tier 6 ships, all ships from outside the faction or timeline.
Is there an alternate way to get those ships and cool things?
Yes, there are major events for free cash shop or lockbox ships, and three seasonal events a year for new ships (the summer event should be starting in June and usually gives a Risian ship). Dilithium can be spent on Phoenix Boxes that have a chance to give a number of ships.
Biggest one: Fleet bases (mostly the colony and starbase) unlock availability of tier 5 and 6 ships that lack special powers, but which have better stats than cash shop ships - most are paired with a cash shop ship that gives it a special skin and power, but they're buyable and usable without that.
Is there a way to earn the cash currency by grinding or something?
Yes, dilithium can be traded for funbux, and some cash shop items are tradeable for energy credits.
Do PC and console players play together?
No.
Is there just one server/realm/galaxy/whatever?
Yes, one per platform. Every social zone has instancing to avoid overload, many missions are private maps, with TFOs joined from a queue for 5-10 players, so much of it plays like a single player game. There's several open zones however, some kind of like traditional MMO areas and some are large coop PVE zones.
Would starting as a Romulan be okay or dumb?
The only faction it's dumb to start as is Dominion. Dominion is a "prestige" faction and starts at a high level with a fuckton of free progression unlocks, currencies, gear, and unlocks. These are thrown at you without explanation or context during their early missions and their tutorial only covers mechanics unique to them like ketracel white. You're expected to already know what everything is for.
Maybe? but I wouldn't recommend it.
Yes and yes - you can play it through Steam or through Arc, the publisher's own thing. Both spawn the same launcher, and if you really want, you can multi-box by firing up both and logging in to two accounts (if you have them).
Regarding Steam Vs. Arc, I seem to recall some drama a while back regarding a promotion that was only accessible through the Arc launcher.
But, it's been a while, I may be misremembering. Personally, I bought a lifetime sub back when the game was released. Considering how long I've been playing the game, probably the best investment I've made.

It was such a blunder that I didn't get the lifetime sub the first time they put them on sale. every time they've been on sale since then i've passed thinking "well it's too late now". At this point I don't even think they are still available, or fi they are I certainly haven't seen one on sale in ages.
LTS seems to go on sale a few times per year. I got mine a few years ago but at this point I'm not sure how useful a new one would be. The monthly stipend is nice but they seem to be putting a lot more in lockboxes rather than c-store these days.
Ground combat in shooter mode has working controller controls, but not space combat so much.
You can just bind everything to the same button like some people do, but I hate that because this is the immersion breaking headcanon I have for it:
"Romulan Warbird decloaking!"
"Hit the button!"
"Shields at 42%!"
"Hit the button faster!"
Hull breach on deck six!"
"HIT THE BUTTON HARDER!"
Sure I lose some DPS giving actual orders but I can burn through most elite content in my 3 year obsolete ship and ten year obsolete build so pfffft.
Consoles have a whole different interface for controllers. I could never get the hang of it but it's good enough that people request it to be an option on PC.
Gamma recruit is coming back after the current event. Several objectives have been reduced (spec points from 90 to 45, tier 5 reps from 12 to 10), and a new objective for tier 6 in one rep, gives a T6+ upgrade token for the recruit and one ultimate tech upgrade per character account wide.
Damnit.
I claimed the laser-bat'leth pack on my main instead of my Gorn because I thought I'd be able to move it over using the account bank.
Nope, character bound.
The set from the event? You can reclaim the set from the event window, the character who claims it is the only one to get the dilithium.
Ah, that is good to know. I assumed it was a one time pickup.
Yeah generally speaking, event rewards are account reclaimable to stop people "having" to run it with a bajillion alts in tandem. I think anything pre-Delta will be per character though, not that that will be too much of a problem now.
Some new ships coming out. Feds only, just in case you wondered if the Year of Klingon was over now that J'mpok is dead.
Clarke-class, T6 version of the Discovery-Fed tier 1 ship, less blocky look that doesn't quite work for me, with upturned pylons. Science-leaning cruiser with a command slot.
GrissomSaucer-class, T6 Oberth that takes the classic two saucer design and adds another saucer on top of its saucer because saucer. Engineering-slanted saucer vessel with a temporal operative saucer.
The T6 Oberth model is actually based on concept art for Voyager. I can't even begin to imagine, though captaining that would explain Janeway's wild writing inconsistencies.

The problem with lifetime subs is you never know if a game is going to be a star trek online or a hellgate: london except in hindsight

Not sure if I have the sub. I remember being annoyed that console didn't get the stipend, but I don't know if that put me off or not. but from the time I played, for all the money I spent, I don't think that it would have been a waste regardless.

In bad news, don’t have the MKXII+ gear for it on my Fed main, so dying a lot.
And trying to figure out what to do with R&D.
But mostly, I appear to be the only person left in a fairly extensive Penny Arcade fleet base…

I’m going to say no, but the reference is welcome!
It amuses me more than it should that I’ve done two episodes in the last week, but I can’t re-complete The Romulan Mystery with all the redone missions. Those warbirds are brutal.
Keep outside of 5 km, they can't use tractor beams or their computer virus power. Have something like beam fire at will or scatter volley to deal with heavy torpedo chains. Hazard emitters will help with hull fires, the ones lit by heavy plasma torpedoes are particularly brutal.
Edit: in most fights, dipping outside of 10 km is a safe space, nearly all ranges top out at 10 km* but enemies will stay in combat as long as you're not more than 15-20 km away, so you can recover cooldowns and heal up a bit. NPCs almost never have heals so all they'll do is equalize shields a bit.
*-the two exceptions:
1. Some Imperial Klingon cruisers have a bioneural torpedo with 15 km range. It's slow and targetable.
2. Some Borg ships (cylinders and diamonds) have a lethal beam lance with a 15 km *minimum* range to prevent fleeing. You still have a window to dip out of range without exposing yourself to the lance.
Hmm, I’ve discovered the reputation
And R&D systems. Questions, so many questions:
1. Is there any reason not to run multiple daily rep projects for different reputations? I seem to have rather a lot of Nukara, Romulan and Omega marks, so figured I may as well get them all going daily projects
2. Just levelling R&D Beams. Am assuming burning dil for MKXII R&D gear is a waste. So is there a better way to level up the tree than endlessly making MKX beam arrays?

Daily projects for rep are what you want to be doing, Hourlies are a waste of resources
