There's a suspicious part of me that wonders if this is how they intend to address (not necessarily "fix") the discrepancies that have developed between STO's timeline and Picard's.
Better yet, let's make the discrepancies the player's fault. During one of these incursions vortexes, we end up intervening on the Enterprise-F during the events of Picard. Everything seems to be going fine until we damage the warp core during a firefight and destroy the ship.
Worf is there. "Well maybe now Riker will shut up about the E."

Ssssh no one tell the Tholians about all the other terrible things we've done.
Nope, no idea who this J'ula lady is. Never met her in my life.
It's not like we *brought* her here. We just went rogue and shoved the Prime Directive straight up the Klingon Empire's sovereignty hole to install her as Chancellor.
Tholian Ambassador: "But she's not Chancellor?"
Oh yes at the last second we pulled a different Klingon from around the same time period and made her Chancellor instead.
"SEE THIS IS THE KIND OF SHIT I WAS TALKING ABOUT!"
I think we can all agree that literally everything is Sela's fault. Somehow.
She was under the Iconians influence though, wasn't she?
I thought we fixed that with time... oh, I see.
As long as the Tholians aren't too upset about me beaming down to Nukara and using them for target practice with my Ferengi throwing knives any time I get "Deal Physical Damage" on an endeavor.

I’ve been there. They seem pretty upset about everything.
They certainly don’t seem to like it when I throw down a medical generator and jump in one of their toxic lakes every time I need to heal 18,000 damage.

Ah, yes, the "Tholian Spa Day" endeavor.
