Also, I love that I've put three days into this game, gone across three planets, a moon, and the asteroid belt, and I still have no idea what the main villain even is. Is it the Vex? Is the Cabal's Emperor? Is it the Queen's gaping asshole of a Brother?
There is no "main villain". The overarching thread is "The Darkness". But basically you are not on a grand story or following a huge campaign. A lot of the story missions are "days in the life of a Guardian".
Like on the Moon you do the stuff with the sword and then that adventure ends. The next thing you do is stop a ritual but it is totally unrelated. It could be days/weeks/months later.
The game isn't really about telling a campaign story like Halo did where you follow Master Chief on a wild ride from A to B.

Got through four of my five needed Crucible bounty rounds done and finished off the Earth story quests. What I learned is that I suck at Crucible. Seriously, I suck. 4 games, I had a total of 29 kills and 69 deaths. Its...bad, okay. I'll need to just force my way through that 5th Crucible game so I can get my 5000xp bounty, and then unless someone here needs another body for PvP, I'm probably done with it.
Is there a trick to farming crafting materials? Just wandering around looking for helium filament deposits/silver chests on the moon didn't seem very efficient, except for the one gold chest I got that gave me ten--which I'd assume is a one time thing.
In addition I need more ascendant shards (motes?) to upgrade the last tier or so of my legendary gauntlets. I've only gotten one in the mail for doing an event.

You can still get good xp and rewards out of the crucible if you're bad, it's not tied to your performance. You do get more reputation for wins, though, and you might get more xp when you place better.
I played a hour at first and earned about as much xp as I did from story missions. Later, I placed 4th on my team and was still rewarded with a legendary engram and a new shader.
I can understand being turned off by the PVP, since I was, too, at first. Change up your abilities and find a gun handles differently and you might find something that works better for you.
It's probably best to stick with control, since it gives you another objective besides shooting people and might help you get acclimated to the combat a little easier.
I, and others here, can offer more pointers, if you'd like.

having that thing be always there, ready to summon in an instant and able to jet off as soon as it spawns is one of my favourite things.
Looking for a little help. I'm playing on Xbox One and the tower is empty when I go there and I cannot join a crucible match, any ideas? I checked Bungie's help forums and all I found was to power off the Xbox and power cycle my modem and router. It worked fine yesterday and I can still chat through Xbox live. Sorry if this has been answered in an earlier post, I didn't read through the 30 pages since launch to see if anybody else has had the same issue.
@Neutered It sounds like you need to forward some ports to let your Xbone work better. That was my exact problem.
So, hey, I don't normally play with a headset because I usually play late at night from bed, and I'm physically disabled so it's not like I can put on/take off a headset by myself.
That said, I do have a Logitech headset I use on my PC to WoW over Vent. Am I correct in assuming I can plug it into one of the USB ports on the front of the PS4 and it'll just work? Because I don't want to be the asshole that never talks.
@NightslyrMaybe. I have a PC headset with three attachments, the two green and pink plugs and an HDMI plug and I had to have ALL the plugs in before it would work. And that took an adaptor to make the green and pink into one so I could plug it into the controller and an extension so the HDMI would reach. AND THEN I couldn't charge the controller when I use it.
I'm only level 8, so I don't really have abilities to change up at the moment. :P
I know what my issues are in PvP. Its really twofold. First, I'm not a great aim with a controller. Never have been even after all these years. That means headshots are rare for me, thus significantly reducing my damage. In PvE I can somewhat compensate for that by using an Autorifle and aiming for center mass, allowing the recoil to take my aim right up to the head. But in PvP, most players move better and react quicker than the AI, meaning I tend to only get body shots in.
Second is my situational awareness is kinda crap. I mean, I know that my allies have the blue name and flag so I can identify them, but there are still times when I see an enemy guardian and the first thing I think is "Ally!" and don't fire right away. Also, I get shot in the back. A lot. Way more than I should, really.
As for rewards, I'm pretty sure they're given out randomly. I got no rewards in my two best games ( about 10/16/9 in K/D/Capture) and got two pieces of gear in my worst game (6/20/4 for K/D/C).

Next match I was 2nd place on my team, we won, I got no loot, but one guy on our team got a green gun and a white piece of armor, and another guy got a blue gun engram!

1) What happens when you hit 15. Do you get the option to switch to the other class and just continue investing points into that class, no longer putting stuff in the original one, or do you get the option to start over from level 1 as the new class once its unlocked?
2) Whats the current level cap?
3) Invite Azith to your friends list PS4 players. I joined pax arcadia yesterday, sent some invites but saw no clan members on the whole night.

Tried my first 2 Crucible matches last night. Control is cool, but sweet baby Jesus I am bad at it. I apologize now if we ever wind up on the same team.
I tried a strike playlist last night after hitting 20. Some thoughts:
20 strikes were easier than I thought they would be. I expected more of a heroic wow treatment, but thats probably the 22/24 versions.

Same here. If I'm not already running with a full strike team, anyone can feel free to invite me. I get in the zone on patrol, but I really love doing strikes with PA'ers.

Man, last nights crucible games were fun. The mp finally clicked for me and we were absolutely wrecking. But I'll be damned if we didn't play the same mars map all night. In control it would NOT rotate off that map! Other than that, I'm loving it.

What's the deal with weapon / armour stats and crucible? I'm guessing they don't carry over?
Only on very specific playlists. I think only the Iron Banner playlist, when active, take that into account. You do however maintain the weapon/armor perks. Which can EASILY make you a lot stronger.
I'm having some weird bug where I don't have people in my tower hubs or showing up during patrols. And I can't join Crucibles by myself. Does anyone know a way to fix this? This has been going on since day 2 for me (maybe day 1 as I was playing in someone's fireteam and saw people the whole time we were together). I'm pretty much missing half the game at this point.

Will Do. I saw you online last night but you were already in a fireteam of 3 and not acception more so I think you were probably in a strike which would explains it.
I think on tuesday I jumped in @GnomeTank game once and we did a venus mission togheter until he had to leave.
Last night I did another Venus mission with @SniperGuy . The game is indeed way more fun when played with others. Not sure if either of them could hear me (tried to talk a little to see if they had a mic and go no reply so I figured they didn't have one connected).
I wish more PAer would connect their microphone. So much better to talk to each other while game and I would be able to make you all endure my amazing frenchy accent. Still had a great time with both of them.
@Khildith I notice similar when joining another fireteam. I could see the microphone icon with the name of someone else at the bottom of the screen but got no audio of their voice and was also using my Gold Headset.

I'd be tempted to check your router NAT settings to see if it's low enough to allow the game to function properly. I do not have the same issue as you but at some point, when I was starting the game, I got a destiny warning message for a second saying my NAT router issue was not configure right to provide a proper game experience. It vanished right away (probably because my router was acting up).
Check your router configuration for a NAT setting and open it more if possible. You may just want to restart your router and see if it helps.

@Grunt's Ghosts Yeah, I would almost guarantee you have to forward some ports.
For people having issues with Glimmer, make sure you're using those Etherseeds/Black Wax Idols, whatever that you find in chests/get from kills. If you pop one during a strike, you'll score a ton of Glimmer.
Also, as for Crucible Gear, I wonder if medals effects it more than points?
