Are we talking about the same thing? You don't need to fill any circle to get marks. I'm sitting on 36 of them right now and I definitely did not fill that circle up 36 times.

So is there a faster way to get rep? I feel like it is going to take forever to get rank 2.

Marks do not come from filling up the rep circle.

Both Vanguard and Crucible marks are only earnable after you reach lvl 18. Not sure about Vanguard marks, but for Crucible it looks like 3 earned for each win, 2 for a loss in PvP.

So, maybe this has been discussed, but did anyone else have their beta emblem reward disappear into the aether when they tried to claim it?

Despite the Postmaster being all "you got mail" and allowing me to click on the emblem, it never showed up in my inventory. A quick search of the Bungie forum shows that I may not be alone in this first-world problem. I hope they can get this fixed so that I will have the option of showing the world that I liked Destiny before it was cool.

Just throwing this out there. If you see me on, I'm always up for grouping to do something. Join my strike team, invite to strike team. Drag me through some story, drag you through some story, play some PvE, laugh at me play PvP terribly. Whatever, I'm game. PSN is Bolthorn and I'm playing on the PS4. Saw some folks playing the other day and wasn't sure if it would be cool to just join up or anything so I played solo the whole time. I think I'm about level 8. Did so much cosmodrome patrol on Earth I'm not even done with the story missions there yet.

This happened to me, but if you circle around to the front side of the little hut with the postmaster, to the Special Orders vender (iirc), you can re-buy a new copy of any of those emblems. They weren't very expensive, either.

Feels like they've done a good job balancing the damage model so you don't roflstomp lower level enemies. With my 161 damage level 14 blue autorifle I still need two headshots to kill a level 4 Fallen Vandal (the next step up from the basic Dreg).

Also, I love that I've put three days into this game, gone across three planets, a moon, and the asteroid belt, and I still have no idea what the main villain even is. Is it the Vex? Is the Cabal's Emperor? Is it the Queen's gaping asshole of a Brother?

There is no "main villain". The overarching thread is "The Darkness". But basically you are not on a grand story or following a huge campaign. A lot of the story missions are "days in the life of a Guardian".
Like on the Moon you do the stuff with the sword and then that adventure ends. The next thing you do is stop a ritual but it is totally unrelated. It could be days/weeks/months later.

The game isn't really about telling a campaign story like Halo did where you follow Master Chief on a wild ride from A to B.

Hurrah! Someone has clarified this for me. I've been reading "reviews" and other comments for pretty much this statement (or clarification on the opposite).

I think the way it works, and I should not be quoted on this, but I THINK the way it works is this.

Each weapon has the attack value you can see, which is more like an item level than anything else. It describes how much damage that weapon can deal relative to other weapons. However, the actual damage a weapon deals per bullet I think is based on:
    1. The weapon class
    2. The weapon subtype

For instance, there are handcannons with 4 bullets until reload, and handcannons with as many as like 9. Even with a similar attack value, the ones with 4 seem to do much more damage. I am using a ~141 or so scout rifle right now and it takes two headshots to kill a low level enemy, however I can switch back to my ~100 heavy handcannon and a single headshot will do the trick, even though the handcannon is ostensibly only 66% as powerful.

Obviously handcannons deal more per shot than auto rifles, everyone pretty much already knows that, but what I'm saying is that I think the weapon class and type are the primary factor in how much damage they do, and the attack stat is more of a scaling factor than a raw number.

So I finally finished the mission to get gold in 3 public events. The first public event was on the moon, I just happened to be there at the right time doing the story mission. The second was on Earth, I had queued up for a Vanguard Wolf strike mission, got the Devil's Lair and as we spawned on Earth we ran right into a public event. Third was while I was doing patrols on Venus. Found it while I was headed to my last patrol.

While doing that final public event I found a legendary pair of boots that needed to be identified. Lucky morning so far.

I also like that doing the strike missions doesn't just spawn you into the instance(?) (unless you get into one that was already started) and instead drops you in the area it is at.

9 rep away from rank 1 vanguard.

Impact is how much damage the weapon does, attack score is how easily it is able to penetrate enemy defense (which increases as the enemy levels). A high attack weapon does X damage to low level enemies as well as high level ones while a weapon with a lower attack score (but same impact) will do the same damage to low level enemies but far less to higher ones. There is a YouTube video where a guy goes through some comparisons.

I think a strike team has to be put together at the Tower, or in your friends list. Not really sure.

From what I've seen, there's a few things to do with Strike Teams.

    1) In the public world, when you are close to a player, you can press I think it was L3 when close to them, to pop up a menu to examine/invite them.
    2) In your character menu, you can scroll to the left to get to your Strike Team preferences: closed, public/open, friends only, invite only
    3) Public will just randomly pop you into groups for those instances i think
    4) With Friends only, you can have friend go in/out of your team at will
    5) You can join Friends (or people in the hub) at this menu if you click on their names, it'll say where they are and if there's space in their fire team (or if they are joinable)

I wish it was that easy... I checked the Special Orders vendor a few times after the Postmaster ate my emblem. She offered to re-sell me my other pre-order emblems and ship, but the Beta emblem was nowhere to be found.

What makes this stranger is if I log into bungie.net and go to the Tower tab, the Postmaster is green like I have mail, but clicking on it has the same message about no items being available at this time. It's like the game knows that the Postmaster is holding out on me.

I think it may be time to write bungie a strongly worded letter.

edit: how did you guys manage to get 6 PA's on a team for crucible? Does it let you queue up that way and stay on the same side?

Yes - if you queue together as a 6-man fireteam, it'll keep you together for all of the games. If you join a fireteam of people mid-match, it'll put you wherever there's room for that match (even if it's on the other side), and then after that it'll add you to the 6-man PA fireteam.

Last night I created a PS Party on the OS level called [PA] Crucible, hoping that people would see it and join if they wanted to participate. I'll keep doing it, because I think it's a nifty way to see if there's a group currently doing PvP if you're looking for some friends, but we also filled in the ranks by just inviting people with the message "Crucible?" attached.

Same reason you have to buy armor/weapons, shit costs money, son!

edit: seeing the mechanic about running out of ammo and waiting 30 seconds for full ammo really makes me wonder why ammo is in the game at all for your primary. At first I thought it was to encourage movement, and force you to kill add's in boss fights so you can replenish it.... but just standing around accomplishes it too.

Awesome, I was considering getting a PS4 soonish. So guess I'll need a PS4 copy of Destiny as well.

If you bought it digitally for PS3 they will give you a free copy of the ps4 version later -- not sure when they'll start letting people upgrade. I think if you didn't buy it digitally you can buy the expansion pass digitally and it'll work but I'm not sure on that.

I'll look into if I can upgrade with the digital pass, that would be really nice. Also, if I buy the digital expansion pass on PS3 will I have it for PS4 as well? It is dependent on the account and not the system, right?

Yeah I'm a little disappointed in the way they handle Clans. I'd really like the ability to find groups easier that way, especially if you could signal that you're looking for a fireteam easier.

Same reason you have to buy armor/weapons, shit costs money, son!

Then why can't I take all of those bullets that the Bad Guys drop on the ground and sell them ? Apparently only MY bullets are hard to come by, enemy bullets, eh we got zillions of those.
