The trick to enjoying Smash Run, I've found, is equipping massive amounts of attack and large amounts of speed and turning it into Nintendo Diablo. Little five minute lootgasms.
Once you get a sense of where the big stickers tend to show up you basically become a death hurricane and it is great.
What if we use a character with special moves but have a character with none in the wings? There is one custom move on one character I would use because it basically breaks the character, but I might want to have some fun with people in the second match.
If your opponent agrees to it then I have no issues.
Lastly, what's the point of the sign-up sheet actually now that we're using Challonge?
To collect friend codes, mostly. Also it's a nice back-up if Challonge is down for whatever reason.

Though it's said there that tipping happening will depend more on the specific character you're up against and how afraid your opponent is of spacing etc.
Anyway the point is
Pretending that Lucina is a straight-up worse version of Marth is kind of disingenuous
Considering how ludicrously effective tippers are and how crucial they are to his game...it's hard to not have that gut reaction. His tippers KILL. And his f airs and b airs almost always tipper and are deadly when they do.

What if we use a character with special moves but have a character with none in the wings? There is one custom move on one character I would use because it basically breaks the character, but I might want to have some fun with people in the second match.

Does anyone want to crackle this post to say "munkus, don't you use your non custom characters?" Because I really do think Mac with custom moves is broken as shit and not balanced at all.

The one that gives him a decent recovery, the up b which changes him from a guy who is dominant on the ground but useless off the stage or in the air to a guy who can recover with the champs and has no weakness.
Edit: I have it on authority that there are more moves like that, ones made with no consideration to how the basic character was balanced, but I unlocked that move by accident and the moment I used it I saw that Mac could no longer be gimped and would no longer have a weakness. He would either die by kill shot or live forever. And it is really, REALLY hard to get a kill shot on Mac, King of the ground game and can trade hits for KOs with his tilt.

Rosalina is going to have a field day against 90% of the cast. Don't grab her, ever, unless you killed her bro buddy. Keep your distance, throw fireballs to keep spacing open. Charge your lighting to the max, don't send it off unless it is maxed out unless you have to. Use it to kill people who have spot dodged, rolled, or are off the stage at a point where you can hit them.
Edit: oh, and memorize when you will lose your books and sword. The worst thing that can happen is your opponent grabs your sword and throws it. Or you throw a fireball and have a poof come out.

Oh and Rorus, japes, ferox, bomb forest, tortimer, tomodachi, mute city, spirit tracks and rainbow road are good tests for CP stages. Just let each character have the option to ban a CP stage prior to the match starting

I'm all about Mute City but any level like Rainbow Road, with its be-wheeled Shyguy Marauders, I don't know if I could take that shit in a tourney setting

And really, I am annoyed that my second favorite character to play in brawl, wolf, got sidelined with Dark Pit standing there like a zit.

But he just stands out. Egregious. Here is Pit. Here is DARK Pit. The differences between them are beyond razor thin, a final smash, a slight trajectory change to side b and a noses hair seperate them.
Wolf was totally unique, even more so than Falco. So I was sad he got cut. Then dark pit arrives. And his mere presence is like an ugly mark on the screen, a dark pit, if you will

Okay, how do you deal with Luma? Is there a trick to removing him from play? @Yukira tried explaining it to me last night but I didn't really get it.
Luma takes his own damage, and you can kill him just by knocking him out as with any normal fighter. He comes back after a while, but you can use the time he's gone to be aggressive on Rosalina.

Not really? It still hits, it launches him way higher than you would risk going down for a meteor with auto cling. You don't use it in combat anymore, you use it to recover when you are hugging the stage.
I will play ANYONE who wants to see this in action. He also has a custom move that turns his side B into an Unblockable move that can kill at decent percents. But is your enemy packing that or the regular side B which is still decent cause it goes further over projectiles?

I definitely don't want custom moves in the tournament personally. Partly because I don't want to play singleplayer to unlock them, but also because I don't want to learn to use them when I mainly play anonymous 1v1 For Glory.
Might take you up on that when I get back home from vacation later tonight.
I've been fooling around with MegaMan's Plant Barrier and it has been hilariously effective at gimping the AI, so I'm kind of curious to see how it fairs against human players and Macs with that alt move.

So, question. I ordered the Wii U Smash Bros pack w/ GameCube controller and adapter. But now that we have confirmation that it literally only works for Smash Bros, it seems like not as good of a decision. I have some other GC controllers, but they are kind of old. I was planning on eventually just picking up 4 new ones, but again, that seems like a really wasteful decision given that it's turning Smash Bros into a $150 or more game.

But it comes back in like 10 seconds, and Rosalina is not NEARLY as weakened as Ice Climbers are without Nana or Popo.

You could charge using the CStick in brawl too, you hit the stick then during the windup you hold A and boom
