I don't know, while that custom move certainly makes his recovery better, it's still not great. His jump height skill sucks, as does the rest of his air game.
Keep hearing his trainer in my head from his reveal trailer: "You ain't no air fighter, Mac. Quit fooling around up there."
I definitely don't want custom moves in the tournament personally. Partly because I don't want to play singleplayer to unlock them, but also because I don't want to learn to use them when I mainly play anonymous 1v1 For Glory.
Im the complete opposite. Bring it on imo. I got a ton of them and I like how they compliment my playstyle.
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

Oh hey, want to know your good kill moves for a character? Play against their level nine computer. What does it do when I get in kill range? Spend literally all its time trying to get an up smash. And funny enough, that's how I found out that Robin's best move to stop a camping toon link with a penchant for up smash was up-b. It has superb knockback and damage for a spell that you'd think would be only for recovery.
Still don't know the properties/limits on his/her lightning sword.

Elwind's nice, yeah...
But it's got nothing on Farore's Wind straight down. Oops, you died. (Seriously, don't try to upsmash Zelda. It's BEGGING for her to suddenly be next to you launching you away - the mere threat of it, and the speed it comes out with, make juggling her risky... not to mention she has the deadliest aerials in the game on top of it)
I'm not mad that he's in. As has been said, he really had no bearing on any other character being included or not. Probably even less so than Lucina, since his model was either recolored from Pit's, or ported from Uprising.
While I wish he was given a unique moveset using the weapon types Pit isn't using (Clubs, Claws, Palms, Blades, etc), I don't particularly mind it either, since, again, speed of creation was probably the priority.
However, I am a bit frustrated that none of his A moves have even numerical differences compared to Pit's. You could've made him slower to run, but with stronger hits, or slightly increased launching capability at the cost of damage-per-hit, or some other thing that could be simulated by the equipment items. After all, while he may be identical to Pit, he is using a different bow. That's an excuse.
I mean, we'd still have "not different enough" arguments regardless, but they'd be a little less grounded in objective fact than they are now, y'know?
Which means you need to be very careful about using your jab. Mashing A will have Robin use up a charge from the Elwind tome for a rapid jab combo. What you want to do is to jab just 3 times. That'll do a fire attack instead.

Arg!!
I can get to Master Core with my custom Bowser but for the life of me I just can't beat that fucker. The real irritating bit is I can't get practice against level 9 Master Core since losing means starting Classic all over.

Is there a specific move you're getting hit with? Try watching some Youtube videos of runs to understand the timing / cues.

Killed by my own counter! Hoisted by my own Picard! If I had the custom recovery I would have come back.

I know, right. Some quick thoughts on the various forms:
Hands: unless you get unlucky, you should get out of this with about 30% damage.
Body: Wait off to the side to see which attack is coming.
Sword slash: roll maybe half a second after he swipes.
Grabby hands: jump over the lower hand, going in the opposite direction of it.
Shout: Roll or air dodge.
Purple cluster bomb: Get below the stage, try to grab it shortly after he bangs his head and then try to position yourself out of the way of the bomblets.
Stage lift: Tough one but try to line yourself up out of the way of the floaty things.
Suction: Run off to the side and roll through or jump over the doodads.
Dog: You can generally run in close and shield or run back to the edge.
Big spike: Shield.
Electric field thing: Shield or get off the edge.
Chomp thing: Shield or get off the edge.
Jumps: Hang on the edge and roll back or drop down.
Swords: I just stayed under it and close to the edge. Always wound up eating a bunch of damage and losing a stock here.
For most things: Get off the edge under it.
For the big swirly slash with the big swing at the end: Ha you're boned.
For the five strikes: Roll, roll, roll, roll to avoid each small sword and then roll twice and the second roll will avoid the big one. Works as Bowser specifically, dunno about anyone else.

If the dog charges the stage from the background, you can jump over it. You know.

I did it with Mega Man. I combined attack with defense, and spammed Metal Blades. Seriously, they penetrate through enemies and hit others. And they each hit Master Core several times.
I wish they could've given Jiggs a custom Rest that actually does what Rest does in Pokemon, healing you. There area lot of ways they could've made it not OP, if it would even need any nerfing, given the downtime.
Side note, Jigglypuff has the worst custom move in the game, bar none. Try out Spinphony. I dare you.

Could you... could you elaborate on the Hands? I'm getting better and better at Master Core (I finally beat the whole thing at 9.0, yay!), but the Hands are kind of a toss-up. Sometimes I get <30%, and sometimes they get these combos and I'm at like 80%...

I have also confirmed without a doubt that the sliders you use to create height and weight for mii's reflects how they perform in game. I have a thin, tall guy and in game his smash fully charged did 20 damage. The shorter, fatter mii is half a head shorter in game and his fully charged smash did 25% damage.
