Hey people who play video games

What are some good spooky games for the Halloween season?

They don't have to necessarily be straight horror, I'm down with some action with horror roots a la RE4 or similar

But I am looking to switch over to only consuming horror based media soon, and this is a necessary step

    F.E.A.R.

    System Shock 2

    Dead Space 1 and 2

    Bioshock 1

Costume Quest isn't really a spooky game, but it is a great halloween game.

I would argue that most "spooky" games aren't all that spooky.

You could say the same thing about movies, haunted houses, and anything else associated with Halloween.

    I like The Void.

    It feels like... a haunting.

Except it's you who haunts. An exploration of a dead world, by a dead man, where everything that was done, or will be done, is forgotten, passing out of memory and back to nothingness.

So I sat down to play some Lords of shadow 2 before work a little bit ago and came to the stealth section with the goat guy that reviewers and players raged on.

I don't think it took me 5 minutes to complete it and move on to an easy boss fight. I really do not know how people had such problems with this. It was too damn easy if you ask me. Makes me laugh some too, because the game tells you how to complete it, and people still didn't get it. Fucking bonkers

Amnesia is the only game that I've actually found the least bit scary. Well, until I figured out how the game works. I just can't feel scared if I have any chance of defending myself. I'll never understand people who find Dead Space or FEAR scary. Isaac Clarke is in a suit of power armour with a bunch of cool weapons and the Point Man has superhuman reflexes and jump kicks dudes in the face. The closest thing to fear I've felt in a game where I can defend myself is probably DayZ, but that's more tension than actual fear.

And this isn't me trying to go "Look how tough I am" or anything. I just almost never really forget I'm playing a game.

Amnesia was pretty scary to me but you have to put yourself into a mindset where you allow yourself to be scared by a video game

I don't think it's a problem if a horror game or movie fails to scare though, because there's also a certain aesthetic to the horror genre which many people like

I'm with Pip. Scariest shit I've ever played. Crouched down behind a desk with 3 rounds left in your almost broken pistol and the sounds of shambling feet getting closer. You think you might be able to make it back to that ledge with the cryo tubes and then you can hack in and find some ammo or maybe get some lif l l l llloook at you h h hackker.

Okay I need skyrim mod suggestions.

I have the basics, skyui a map replacer, that sort of stuff.

I also have things like hdt, skse and physics stuff.

Now I need some pretty princess dresses. And armor. Or cool outfits.

Go to nexus > click Files > Categories > Clothing > Most endorsed

I can't help more than that because the only clothing mod I have just replaces the vanilla clothes with higher res textures.

Edit: armour wise I have Immersive Armors which adds over 100 types of lore-friendly armour, including making it craftable, if that's the kind of thing you're after. It's really well done.

The thing that frustrates me the most about Skyrim mods is the apparent absence of a decent undercut style in any of the ladies hair sets.

For those unaware, @vagrant_winds challenged me to a bet on whether Square would have a new Final Fantasy XV trailer in TGS. The winner would be given a Steam game of $10-$15 value by the loser.

He was so certain of his victory. Everyone else said I was taking a sucker's bet.

I shall use this shovel to dig a hole filled with their tears.

Have you played Outlast? You're totally defenseless in that game, unless you count running away as a defense.

You might also be interested in Alien: Isolation when it comes out next month. Your character is somewhat equipped to deal with the androids and human survivors, but the xenomorph is a huge chitinous monster that doesn't give a fuck about bullets.

This is a list of most of my mods: http://i.imgur.com/gTvQxHj.png . I recommend everything in categories 01-08. Also Faster Mining and Better Quest Objectives from category 99.

As far as pretty princess armor, there's plenty of it, just grab what you like! You're generally going to need one of the body-mods to use most of the armor.

I think the UNP body generally works with vanilla stuff? sometimes there are clipping issues with armor, but I read you can use UNP texture mods with the vanilla body at least

    oh my god

    new Silent Hills trailer!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NptycDmjZfU

I hate centipedes but I'm so excited for this

    minor theory stuff
it's looking more like mother-son incest might actually be the major personal demon this time around, especially since alcoholism seems less present than it did in PT. it is a pretty short trailer though, so who knows!

still rooting for intense, bizarre repetition to be a motif, even though it didn't come up in this trailer. it's my favorite theory on why the game is called Silent Hills this time

XCom...So playing through it again, never done so with all the expansion and DLCs.

    1. The Slingshot (I think) DLC is cheater. It gives you one good Heavy, has Mutons show up earlier than normal in the game (which I capture) and the third mission gives you a crapload of goods which directly translate into money for me. All of a sudden this C/I game goes from financial worry to no problem.
    2. Seekers are so fun in early game. "Hey look seekers, lets all go into overwatch until they kill themselves on our guns!"
    3. Thin Men still kill my rookies.
    4. Having fantastic luck with not getting soldiers killed. Having terrible luck with injuries. Had to field a team that was short on people because I had 11 people healing up once. That's the downside to more missions. Otherwise more missions is great.
    5. Did my first Exalt mission. Was a "protect the antenna" style. I figured out real fast to play it as protect the flag and it was pretty easy.

You pay for it on steam and then if you're lucky the publisher and steam worked it out so you can download it the day before, then it will unlock the day of release around midnight (again, if you're lucky)

And sometimes you get snazzy bonuses. I should point out that Green Man Gaming typically has 20-25% off codes and then you get a Steam key from them around release. I bought Shadow of Mordor there for 25% off a few weeks ago.

The only downside is sometimes you don't get to preload with GMG. They tend to send out codes closer to release. Worth the 20-25% off to me though.

    1. Running away is a perfectly valid strategy
    2. Do you really think you should try and fight that? Maybe you should just run away.
    3. Oh god is that a troll?? RUN AWAY
