Oh yeah, I don't think it'll happen. But some people are arguing that it could, and I can't say I disagree. It could happen, but lots of bullshit COULD happen. Doesn't mean it will.
I'm getting kind of jaded on MMOs. They all seem to make the same fundamental mistakes over and over, and frankly they rarely offer a playstyle I enjoy (I do not really enjoy hotbar clickfests).
Wait.... did I travel back in time?
People treating gaming media as though it had integrity?
Is... is this the 90's?
I uh, I don't know what to edit the decade part to. Before my time I guess.
I know this is bizarre, but there was a time when magazine subscriptions were a thing...
and when their content was entertaining & informative enough to be worth money. :-X

I know that this too is bizarre, but once upon a time we had these things called MUDs, MOOs, MUCKs, MUSHes, and various other colloid acronyms. Most (Many(okay... some)) of them had more interesting mechanics and offered more in-depth opportunities for roleplay than WOW and it's umpteen clones ever have. Most of them had communities of a few dozen to a few hundred players, which left room for actual human relationships and intrigue.
You might still find things to like with Achaea, though I dunno if it's gone to hell over the years or not. Haven't been paying attention.
Lots of posts to read, but I have to tell @pixelated pixie I beat Tomb Raider 2013. So, starting next week, it is ME 1 palythrough. So, I have been doing 8 pm PST, but not had many show up. Is this to late? I love streaming, but I want everyone to love it too. Thoughts?
Wasteland 2 is pushing all the buttons I hoped it would. Fallout 2 heavily influenced my early teenage gaming life (before that it was all Super Mario Bros. this and Ocarina of Time that), so to be presented with something in that vein but completely new and unexplored has my senses reeling. I'm still getting my bearings in how to best set-up my guys before starting combat, and I'll frequently either initiate combat with the wrong person, or all people, or not clear jams and reload weapons in-between encounters etc. but those are things I'll get used to.
I also love how my deranged and brawny heavy-hitter with a spiked baseball bat is also a computer science major.
I'm not sure the recommendation function is working 100% yet. It just suggested Insurgency and Wargame: Red Dragon because I recently played You Need a Budget.
So, as one of the resident people who has written way too many reviews, would any of you other folks be interested in having a "PA G&T Steam Recommends" group that people can follow as a "curator" and be able to have our reviews collected in a single place?

Okay, no idea how this thing actually works, but I figure I'll start kicking this can down the road in case others are interested (I'm about to crash, but will check in the morning).
Link to the group. It's completely sparse at the moment, and I've not yet set it up for curation. We'll leave it invite-only like Adventure Group (people who aren't active in the thread should still be able to follow, I believe), and for starters, any person who meets the baseline for curation (10 reviews) will be made Moderator so their reviews show up. PM me if you want to join.
We'll crowd-source other regulations in terms of what we want out of our reviews, but as a starting point, I'd propose the following: No straight-up joke reviews (read: I'll delete and remake my L4D2 review) unless the joke is actually genuinely useful in terms of what the game is about; you actually need to own the game on Steam (or demonstrably own it at GOG/Humble/another digital site) in order to post a review.

I remember being excited to read PC Gamer. Now when I see it it's like seeing a loved one that's been turned into a bloated, shuffling zombie.
I'm getting kind of jaded on MMOs. They all seem to make the same fundamental mistakes over and over, and frankly they rarely offer a playstyle I enjoy (I do not really enjoy hotbar clickfests).
Preeeetty much. Even the ones that claim to do something "wildly different!!111!" are just the same basic concepts with some different wallpaper. There are some rare exceptions like Planetside and Eve Online, both of which are games I've sunk a huge amount of time into, but generally "MMO" is a kiss of death when it comes to whether I'll give a shit about a game or not. They're just so god damn stale, boring, and grindy. Bleah.
On the topic of things that aren't god damn stale, boring, and grindy have you people played Hack'n'Slash? No? Why the fuck not!? The entire game is pure Double Fine goodness and even if you're not a coder (I'm not) you'll still have a lot of fun figuring the different puzzles out and in some cases, breaking the game just because it's funny. The writing is fun and dare I say kinda cute, and the general art design isn't mindblowing but it is visually entertaining and does a fantastic job representing the concepts of game code in a visual sense. Hell, you might even accidentally learn something about basic coding along the way!
Ever see a creature spawner endlessly dispense turtles like a rapid fire machine gun? I have, and it's fantastic, at least until the game chugs to a screeching halt due to hundreds of turtles being crammed into one spot.
Woo, one more game off the backlog, uh...only several hundred more to go.
I kind of liked deadpool, at least once I turned down the difficulty to easy. Other than the one (fairly large) caveat about ranged enemies doing stupid damage with no good systems to close on them effectively, the combat was actually pretty fun. Actually trying to aim the guns was hit or miss, but using the auto-aim as part of the gunkatas in melee flowed really well, and the melee combo systems flowed really nicely.
The humor was...very Daniel Way-ish, except maybe even a bit more crass (I don't mind Way too much), but I don't remember Deadpool being quite the horndog he is in the game. When it got away from that part though, it did have some good jokes.

Yeah, there were a couple areas in particular where the ranged enemies in particular were total bastards. They're not insurmountable, just kinda annoying to get through. Most of the game's combat is pretty fun though. (I played on Medium and Hard. Yes, I beat it multiple times because wooo Deadpool!)
I'm a huge fan of the comics and even I was kinda blindsided by the horndog stuff too but much like those few ranged areas, it's only a couple meh spots. The rest of the writing is pretty solid WayPool. I particularly enjoyed Cable's appearance.

Aww man...why you gotta say stuff like this. Even if i had the money, i sure as heck wouldn't have the time.
Hmmmm. With the new steam redesign, I'm finally able to see all the games that were region locked for users outside the US. Don't know if they'll accept my filthy foreign money yet, but at least it's a step in the right direction. Maybe it's time to buy my third copy of Alpha Protocol.
Also, while looking at games in my queue, I want an option for 'feel free to keep this game popping up, I just have no interest in getting a feed on it, wishlisting it, or paying $59.99 for it. '
Shadowhope on
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
"That franchise you wanted a sequel from is coming as an MMO!" is getting to be a depressingly familiar refrain.
Its like its '05 and everyone is saying 'warcraft as an mmo is really successful! we should do that!'
You misspelled 'Me too!'
The reality is that for probably less dev time they can make a game that will make more money in subs (before the inevitable F2P-to-shutdown cycle) and be far more profitable with the barebones maintenance that they'll eventually offer. They're not looking for WoW 10+ million numbers. They're looking for a tenth of that for about six months. So not only will they make bank, they'll also get to scratch that title off their list of things people bitch about wanting.

I think that's what happens if you just hit next without selecting any of those. At least I hope it's what it does, or else my storefront is gonna get a lot more empty.
I'm just glad I can finally stop Early Access shit from showing up now.
As a people, we need to stop buying games before they're done.
Au contraire, some of the best games (in fact, THE best) I've played in recent years came out of early access, including some games that likely would not ever have seen the light of day without the influx of money early access offers. In fact, I would like a section that features early access only.
Some early access gems, off the top of my head:
State of Decay (have I mentioned this is one of my favorite games ever?)
Divinity: Original Sin (so damn good)
Wasteland 2 (all that and toasters too)
Grim Dawn (this one is still early access, actually, but is solid and is shaping up to be one of my favorite ARPGs)
Blackguards
Neo Scavenger
Abyss Odyssey
Prison Architect
... and a bunch more I can't immediately think of while I'm at work.
Sure, there are turds in the sea, but there's a lot of good fish there too.
The only thing this reminds me of is the Russian-distributed Death to Spies 2, which is basically Soviet spy ring Hitman where, instead of killing rednecks at a wedding in Mississippi, you kill Nazi officers in the Western USSR (so, more uniforms and less guns).
But, as with Hitman, that's in third-person, and disguises and stealth are important (the game even has the awkward, patience-demanding handling of the old Hitman games). And you never even meet Stalin.
Though the story, while lackluster, is no where near as stupid as anything in Modern Warfare.
Not sure if this has been posted yet (this thread is sooo fast), but you can now middle-click links (games, community hub, etc.) in the Steam client, and it will open the page in a new window.

Nice! (You could shift-click to do this before. But now I don't have to ponderously engage my left arm to cruise sales on Steam. )

I'd definitely join in.

Half-Life 3 is going to feature a Disney Infinity like system so you can fight all the bosses of all the games in your Steam library.

Dear Steam,
If it has the tag "MMO" or "Free to play" I will be completely skipping over it.
If there was a way to completely hide F2P and MMO games in your store, I'd take it.
Steam, just stop. Go home. You're drunk.
