@HiT BiT, classful monster that he is, left two Steam keys sitting in my PA pm inbox.
All day long they sat there, as foreboding as the Sword of Damocles and as tempting as Pandora's Box. Now that I'm home from work, I see what terrible gifts were given unto me...
Thank you so much for the Xotic and the Xotic DLC bundle! This looks right up my alley. Thanks!
Styx has so far been a pleasantly solid stealth game. I'm not very far, granted, but it seems like it will have a lot of open areas like the glorious stealth games of old.
Argh! Forgot Styx released today! I haven't pulled the trigger on my other decision yet, so I'll just add that to my thought process. Something is being bought tonight so it's ready for tomorrow darn it!
Any further updates would be great to hear, if it keeps being solid it may win some more points in it's favor.
AC3 was kind of a letdown for a lot of fans of the series. It's not bad overall, but could have been a lot better. I enjoyed the Ezio trilogy more overall, although Revelations felt a bit unnecessary too.
I dunno, I kind of liked the little village. I was always wandering around hoping to trigger a new event in their lives.
AC2 and AC4 were clearly the superior games in the series, though.

I liked the idea of the village. I feel that the whole crafting system was poorly explained. I was also annoyed at how the character dialogue for the people in the village was a lot harder to hear than the main game's dialogue...at least that's how it was in the 360 version.
My favorite part about AC3 was the ship-to-ship combat, and that was greatly improved upon in AC4.

Shit..
I was hoping that game would turn out bad, now I have to decide between that and pulling the trigger on my pokemans or the Pre-sequel season pass.
Oh jesus. I just realized that there's a game based off of that Tim Burton Alice movie on steam now...I'm almost curious at how bad it is, but I think I would just end up angry at the movie again.
Oh well. I'll just ignore that it exists. Probably gonna get epic mickey 2 eventually.

Alienware is like Apple. You're paying extra purely for the name.
Let's be fair here. Once upon a time there were actually good reasons to pay extra for a Mac if you were in certain fields. You can't really say that at all about an Alienware.
Well, once upon a time I do remember Alienware being pretty incredible in terms of specs. They were the high-end machines. Now they're pretty much Dell boxes with a new logo.
Alienware was the ultra high end boutique PC manufacturer of the mid 90s-early turn of the century.
I would give that title to Falcon Northwest.
Hmmm... Voodoo PC? They had an Omen model made out of 24k gold.

Well it still could, but the first few levels have been really satisfying. The game is very vertical, which I really dig in my stealth games. You don't really see that as often as I'd like.
I think I'll do a little streaming of it. You can see how it plays + how bad at it I am =p
Unrest is a role playing adventure game set in a fantasy interpretation of ancient India that adapts to death, failure, and the choices you make. Play as ordinary people in a struggle for safety, freedom, and a chance at peace. Use conversation, manipulation (and rarely, violence) to achieve your goals.
That's certainly off the beaten path, and sounds pretty cool. Thanks, Bery!

Why buy a season pass before any of it is out? It's not like it's got a pre-sale discount or incentives.
It's more about if I don't use the money on it now, I'm probably going to spend it on something else and then not have the dough for the DLC when it actually comes out and then I'll be lustfully eying it from afar for a few months.
Going to be a big crazy next few months and if the release schedule is anything like it was for BL2, the DLC might be coming out quick and fast.
Update: A few hours of Styx and I think it's possibly the best stealth title since Dishonored or Mark of the Ninja. AI can be a little wonky. I might need to jack the difficulty to the highest level so they are more sensitive. First level or so doesn't feel very big and feels slightly on rails...then when you get beyond that, the levels open up massively. They are huge, sprawling, with soooo many routes and potential ways to tackle a problem. Go over enemies, go through tunnels, go under them clinging to the underbelly of the city, across scaffolding and chandeliers, etc etc. It's almost overwhelming to have a stealth game with so many avenues in this day and age.
For ACIII it would've helped if some driver issue or whatever wasn't causing it to constantly crash to the point where I would just speed through as much of the game as I could, though a lot of the earlier parts of it were not too bad, but it does take a drop in quality eventually, the end could've been so much better, and some of the later sections just felt frustrating. I've considered going back to it and giving it a second chance, but might as well wait for ACIV to get within a price range I'd be willing to impulse buy and play what sounds like an improvement over AC3
Short mini-rant, but...mini-games...why mini-games? Particularly ones you have to complete to advance the level?
They almost never work out well, emphasize a play style that probably isn't often used in the game itself, and generally serve to ratchet up frustration artifically.
We hates them SteamThread, we hates them forever.
[this mini-rant brought to you by that damned Volleyball mini-game in the Sand Castle stage of Castle Crashers...really, who thought it would be a good idea to let the other team keep 4players, regardless of how many were on yours? That, plus the laughter and "Failed" announcement...really there was smoke coming out my ears]
So i am feeling like I don't get the full effect by playing Divinity alone. Does anyone still play who is willing to coop with me (and how does that even work?)
Also i am kind of feeling that the physical classes (man-at-arms and archery) are kind of weak. Does it get better?

Castle Crashers has some questionably advised mini-games in it. I mean, it's great when suddenly you're racing deer or escaping a UFO, but they're all really frustrating if you don't get them in one go.
I've never completed the final level of the PC version of Rayman 2. There were random rocket riding/sliding/water-skiing segments all the way through it, but it was largely just running and jumping. Then the final level involved steering a rocket through a three dimensional obstacle course to the boss, then getting the boss to damage itself with its own projectiles while avoiding all those projectiles. So much ragequit.
On the other hand, Rayman Legends has the best mini-game ever. Kung Foot with four people is pretty much the best thing. Smash Bros Brawl is sitting right there, and we're playing ridiculous kung-fu soccer.
The verdict is in, based on people's statements in this thread and watching a few gameplay videos, I have picked up Shadows of Mordor and Styx this evening! (And Serious Sam 3: BFE, just in case for a future FNG) I'm looking forward to bringing the fight to the orcs when I'm in a fightin' mood and skulking around as a goblin when I'm in a sneakin' mood.
I probably shouldn't have waited so late to make the call as it made me weak and I went for 2 out of the 3, but according to Meatloaf, that ain't bad.
Thinking I may try to stream one or both of these.
Styx might need to be more of a scheduled stream due to the longer gameplay/stealth aspect and to keep it manageable to export to YT if I go that route with the recording.
Mordor could probably be streamed and exported as highlights of an orc killin' sim without giving up too much of the story for folks I think.
All I can say is mmmm mmmm! Good mfing choice, mfer!
I finished up Mordor this weekend (though still a little to do to 100% it) and am playing Styx right now. Both are super excellentness!
Also I appreciate your Meatloaf reference.

Darn you, Pink Skull... I was trying to trade that stupid Deponia coupon to the Trashbot because they had a couple 90% off coupons for this! I was going to send it Taramoor's way so he could grab it for two bucks (hey, I keep an eye out for my friends!)
Hmmm... future reprisals may be in order, perhaps. I just wish the Trashbot would have worked... I still have three Pixel Piracy coupons to get rid of...
It's a fun game- you ought to get some good times out of it!
Oh great, ACIV and Far Cry 4 are now $70 with the CAD price update.
Yep, nope. For some reason for me $70 is just way too much for one game. Especially since I just picked up Mordor and DA: Inquisition for $40-ish USD each (~44 CAD) from GMG.
Today's shocking display of classiness brought to you by the letters "W" "T" "F" and the poster @destroyah87 ... Seriously, man, classy. Monstrous, but classy. Thanks so much!
WHEN AM I SUPPOSED TO HAVE TIME FOR ALL THESE THINGS?
I totally blame @Kalnaur for this. Also @Big Classy for bringing it up in the first place.
Thank God someone got you with that! You totally lined yourself up for it and I was pissed I couldn't capitalise. High 5 Destroyah!

Somehow I thought the CAD price update would just autoconvert currencies for me. That would be sensible. Nope, Far Cry 4 changes from $59.99 USD to $69.99 CAD, where an actual conversion would be $67.01 CAD.
Though now Crusader Kings 2 is slightly cheaper in Canada. In conclusion Steam Canada is a land of contrasts.

Guys. Guys.
There's this game on Steam called Alien:Isolation.
There is no better Alien game anywhere. I've heard complaints that it's too long. How can that be? Forever isn't long enough. I want to squirm under a desk and pray oh my fucking god I just want to pray that it didn't see me jesusjesusjesuschrist help me I can hear it in the walls...
Man between Alien and Styx this is a week of "Goddamnit I died and forgot this game doesn't save every 10 steps I take or have some sort of magical respawn process" thought patterns for me. Getting too used to things like that.
ok, borderlands 2... I'm sorry, but I feel like I'm under leveled.. dyeing all the time is not fun. saying the quest is level 8.. and a level 11.. dyeing. not fun.. am I missing something?
Is the level 11 a boss or miniboss? Might have some sort of gimmick you're overlooking. Generally I found over leveling was more of a concern than under leveling.

Why, because Masyaf and Constantinople are fairly similar? I thought AC1 was really boring bunk. I haven't played Revelations yet.

What is probably most interesting about this game is that it is not Portal, and why it is not Portal.
It's so close in so many ways, but each way that it doesn't completely work explains part of why Portal was such an amazingly put together game.

It's an action RPG, like Diablo. You get gear from quests and exploding bad guys. Should've gotten a decent amount of it by level 8.
I guess not enough. It is fastly falling into, "to grindy" category for me to enjoy the story.
I don't want to play a game were I die all the time because I didn't get enough gear. D3 did not do that to me. so far BL2 is.
It doesn't get better though, the way it scales is opposite to D3. Slowly enemies take more and more bullets.
