You don't need to upgrade your weapons every five minutes, but it helps to check that your weapon's level is close to your own level. Rarer ones (at level 11, Greens and Blues will do) are preferable to whites, though.

@DyasAlure‌ , you shouldn't have to take on a level 11 baddie at level 8. Are you stuck on Captain Flynt? Maybe back off and do some sidequests (and find a better gun or two, as has been suggested. Normally when you hit a plateau you can cash in a few gold keys in Sanctuary. But it sounds like you aren't that far yet.)

At level 8 he's probably getting his ass kicked in that Bandit shantytown in the opposite direction of Flynt. I remember that being a big PITA early on.

So how is the AI in Alien? I've heard mixed reviews, and that ARS review basically described it as a broken mess.

I'd trust the Steam Thread hive-mind above all though.

I've no plans to pick it up, though I'm curious. Not sure my pc could actually run it based on some of the amazing visuals I've seen from it.

Steam now has Canadian dollar pricing.

In some cases we pay more: NBA 2k15 is $69.99CAD which converts to $62.64USD a 4.42% increase.
In some cases there is near parity: Alien Isolation is $54.99CAD which converts to $49.22USD a 1.54% decrease
and in some case we pay a lot less: Beyond Earth is $49.99CAD which converts to $44.74USD a 10.50% decrease in price.

I'm looking forward to putting in a little time with Alien, but I don't handle scary games well, apparently. I tried last night. I TRIED. I sat down, late, with headphones on and the lights out. I just got to my first real encounter with people in the game and then after that I'm walking through this hallway with little sounds coming from all over. A knocked over can here, a vent crumple there. And I see open air ducts and vents above me, to the side, etc. And I'm all "FUCK THIS, I'M OUT" and shut it down and went to bed.
    I was soooo stressed.

I'm terrible with scary games, made worse by the fact my gameroom is in the basement and has no natural light. Therefore, playing during the day when it's sunny and warm (you know, the tropically weather of Maine) doesn't really help at all. I've tried Amnesia and Outlast and both of them got a solid "NOPE" for now. I've tried Outlast multiple times and still can't get past the anxiety it builds.

  • AsheAshe Registered User regular
I'm traditionally in the "NOPE" camp.

But this is Alien. One of my favourite things. I'm fully prepared to scare myself silly for the cause... just not quite yet.

But how much NOPE is that? We need additional Science here. Because nothing bad has ever happened by adding Science.

If we take the si unit of NOPE, the Narp. For calibration purposes, let's set 1 Narp equal to the image in the spoiler.

Really? Call me tacky, then. My default response to Steam friend requests is small 'n' "nope" unless there's some affirmative indication that they are tied to the PA community somehow. No friends in common, no groups in common (or only "Steam Trading Cards Group" or a 50,000 member sale group) and no note in the profile tying back to a forum account? Uh uh.

FAKE EDIT: And lookee here, an invite from "Nobody." I said back in June that I would accept any gifts as a stretch goal for the children. But I didn't say I would accept friend requests from accounts whose sole purpose appears to be anonymous gifting. ;)

Is it wrong that I felt I had plenty of fun with Aliens Vs. Predator? I mean, I hadn't even gotten to any Predator bits, but I felt the tone, lighting, and environments were fantastic. Maybe it's just the whole Alien vs Aliens thing. I should get back to that. Also loved finding the story and lore bits around the environment, sort of like the Metroid Prime games...

IT'S TIME FOR A PIXIE CONTEST!

    The Prize:
    alienisolation.jpg
Apparently comes with some DLC and TF2 goodies too, but I can't confirm that bit.

There seem to be a few people that want this:
    alienisolationwant.jpg

So what do you have to do?

Sorry, no Steamgifts giveaway. No simple "click a button" thing. I know, I know, that makes me a heartless terrible person. But we all knew that anyway.

Nope, you have to put a teensy bit of effort in.

Write me an ode. Or steal one. Or something.

I want an ode to cupcakes.

Okay, it doesn't actually have to be an ode. It can be a free verse poem. A haiku. A limerick. Even a simple prose paragraph. Heck, I'll even take an art. Just give me something fun that involves cupcakes in some fashion. How hard can that be?

Winner to be picked on Friday evening sometime (US Eastern), unless there's a complete lack of interest in which case I don't know. You all suck. And I'll figure something else out. :P

    Go!

Speaking of Aliens and Narps and NOPE, this is still a thing! Get in your entry if you haven't already.

    :)
