Can somebody explain to me how exactly Bungie thinks the Titan is well balanced? If somebody would suggest to give a single class the tankiest stats and the most melee attack power (the only melee one-hit-kill from the front), you'd be laughed out of the room. Baffles me to no end.
Regular Titan melee is not a one hit kill. Shoot plus melee is the way a Titan has to get a clean melee kill, just like everyone else.
The shoulder charge and the knee require the titan to be sprinting first for 3-5 seconds before they can activate the attack. It's a looong time to just be vulnerable and running. The reward matches the risk. If I'm able to full on run at you complete with windup period and you allow me to get in melee distance and you don't dodge, then I don't know what to tell you.
If you let me do that, I would have been able to pointblank you with a shotgun as well.
But what's is it balanced against? The other classes don't have a melee one-hit-kill with extended range. Also, Hunters and Warlocks are squishier.
Hunters backstab for increased damage plus invisibility after a melee kill. Both squishy classes have a guaranteed way to evade the Titan charge, Blink. Warlock can dot or regen grenade via melee. Hunters flat outrun Titans. Warlocks can knockback an enemy via melee, or regen health via melee kill.
I also like how you call it "extended range". The Titan has to run AT you, without stopping to get the kill. Not a lot of things more likely to get you killed that to run at someone who is shooting at you.
To get a kill with charge, I have to predict where the opponent is, start my run and hope that nothing kills me for the 5 seconds it takes to charge, or that I find my target before the charge wears off, and that I don't miss. If I don't find the target, or they are above. below me in a position that makes me stop running, it's wasted. Ten seconds of running around without being able to stop or shoot, otherwise I lose my ability to kill with that hit. or the target could simply dodge, I'm in a vulnerable position, and I die.
It's plenty balanced.
I simply disagree. It's not balanced at all.
Simply put. A class with more survivability is balanced out by the other classes dealing more damage.
In Destiny however, Titans have the highest survivability, ontop of the highest melee damage output. The shooting game is an even playingfield for everyone, damage-wise. So the Titan has higher survivability, higher melee damage, equal ranged firepower - how in the hell is that *plenty balanced*?
Bleh, Rusted Lands is the worst map for me. Pretty much a guarunteed negative k/d, and loss of precious bounty points.
My worst map is Bastion, by far (the large Mars one with vehicles). I actually look forward to Rusted Lands when I see it, since there are three key areas that I can hang out and excel. I might screenshot the locations and post what I do, if I have the time.
One of the locations is a niche where a Special Ammo spawns. You can camp on the Special Ammo and have a long range view of the "valley" between the two ruined buildings, making it great for Sniper Rifles and that headshot bounty. Sit on the ammo, shoot things with Sniper Rifles, and switch to Auto Rifle if someone shows up close on your radar (will be either directly to your left or right, making it easy to track where they are coming from).
The second location is the L-shaped stairs at the corner of one of the buildings. Going up the stairs, you have a view of the large room with three entry points. Going down the stairs and around the L-bend, you get a full view of an open area where people have to cross to get to you. Either one of these is good for suppressing folks with an Auto Rifle and scoring kills, and the L-bend ensures that you can pop back down into cover if you are being shot at. You do have to watch out for grenades being tossed into that hallway, but I can mostly meander back and forth between the two exits of that stairwell and look at my radar for incoming threats.
I can't really explain the other location very well in text form, but there's a section of wall and a doorway that people LOVE to jump over. Which means as soon as they pop up over the wall, they get shot by my Auto Rifle. It's like a magnet for slow-ass Lift and Hover fools.
So I finished bad ju ju yesterday, this morning got ikoras shotgun bounty and banged that out (big help for Ikoras pvp challenge assists count as kills). So many exotics shame I can only use one and thorn's pimp hand is strong.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
So I'm nearing the end of the Gunslinger tree and it's sort of funny. The other day in a PA hunting group, I was complaining that "man if I nail somebody in the head with the knife, I should get it back right away, otherwise what's the point of it..."

They definitely do, because I finished the bounty not killing anyone. Thorn was a huge bonus here with the bleed I was assisting my team the whole time. Basically go control, follow the group focus fire, every assist is one less kill you need.

Does the warlock [voidwalker] super pass through the Titan bubble? I accidentally shot off the warlock super at a titan bubble and ended up killing everyone inside for the Space Magic medal. Or is it supposed to be like the Mass Effect biotic explosion thing?

That's the thing, if I use my normal gun, I don't progress on the bounty. My gameplay is also stilted. A lot of fights I've lost have come down to me using the fusion rifle to force the kill instead of switching. This challenge is so dumb when you consider that people can just collaborate and finish it. I just can't bring myself to stoop to that though.

How are you getting so many exotic bounties? I haven't gotten even one.
You can get Sniper Rifles with Void damage for the first location, and Shotguns/Fusion Rifles work well in my other locations. I prefer Auto Rifle, but I do use Shotguns to ambush folks in other locations on the map.
EDIT: I'm not trying to prove you wrong. I'm trying to help you (and anyone else struggling on that map). In an ideal world, they would have separate Exotic Bounties for PvP focused folks and PvE focused folks, with Exotic Weapon rewards geared for those style of plays. Things like "Greatly increases stability after Guardian kills" for PvP or "Deals damage over time to Bosses" for PvE or something.

I run both pvp and pve bounties every day they are up. Though I didn't get any until I finish ju ju but nik has both so its not even locked by what you're using.
Thorn's bleed/armor pierce is not going to wow you with damage, but what it does is just enough to help when running things in pve and getting dodge kills in pvp. I'll admit though, prior to getting the bleed its damage is very underwhelming and without the range increase you will not kill anyone with it in pvp.

I managed to get an exotic bounty last night, which makes me happy, though having to grind out 25 strikes is annoying. Surprisingly, the first step in the quest was to complete a weekly strike, which I had done earlier that day with a lot of pain and death. I managed to solo it without dying once, and probably faster, too. I don't know what happened.

Feel free to disagree, but here's something to consider. In PVP, Titans have the same survivability as everyone else. He has worse speed and movement than the other classes. He has to spec into his higher melee damage option to get the 1-hit kill. And the 1 hit kill comes with a whole bunch of conditions for it to work. And it leaves him in a terrible position should he miss. If he doesn't spec into it, then he's on equal level melee-wise with the other classes.
Armor doesn't apply in PVP. Defense doesn't apply in PVP. Titans have the same effective health as everyone else.
Balanced.
Sev: Your gameplay is the most heavily yomi based around. Usually you look for characters that allow you to force guessing situations for big dmg. Even if the guess is mathematically nowhere near in your favor lol. You're happiest when you have either a 50/50, 33/33/33 or even a 75/25 situation to go crazy with. And you will take big risks to force those situations to come up.
So close to downing the final boss in the vault tonight. Went to go farm helium to upgrade some gear for another attempt. Found a chest run on youtube. Ya, I got maybe 10 helium in an hour or so
I don't know where you were looking, but I got around 60-70 in an hour going around the particle accelerator where you start on the moon.
I was following this and most of the spots he said chests should spawn I found none. I have a hard time seeing helium by itself on the ground though. I also need to go to mars for some iron.
Well, the guy who made that video doesn't seem particularly good, considering he missed a chest twice in that clip. The route he took was also weird, doubling back on itself a lot. He also missed chest spawns on the other side of the particle accelerator. Regardless, if you go through the route like he did you're bound to miss tons of stuff, like he did. take your time, and try to get some height and/or different angles on locations, it really helps. I tend to make a big clockwise loop around the accelerator, dipping into the caves and buildings as I go. You can hop onto the accelerator at the broken end and check both sides of the entire structure pretty quickly.
I hope at some point they make materials drop from enemies. I really dislike wandering around on patrols to try and find the various stuff I need to upgrade my armor.

I don't mind poking around for chests while patrolling. I wish some areas (Mars) had a few more node spawns, though. It's a bit silly the majority of resources I get are from chests and not nodes.
I was specced into Defender, with the War Machine perk slotted. (Gives you fast reload after you get a melee kill).
I had a legendary Primary, Invective Special, and a blue Rocket launcher. This RL had the perk, reloads faster if the clip is empty. It had only 1 shot in the clip, so this activated after every shot.
I procced War Machine, killed a few with the rocket launcher, and it reloaded extremely fast due to the weapon perk and the ability perk.
Shortly after, I noticed that the fast reload would no longer activate on my legendary Primary, nor on Invective.
I've tried respeccing, exiting, turning the system on and off, and nothing.
Other weapons will still get the reload buff from WM, just not my legendary and my exotic that happened to be equipped when I used the super-speed RL. Anyone know where I can report this?
