There is a brief mention of the 9 in the Queen's ghost fragment grimoire:
    http://www.destinypedia.com/Grimoire/Allies#Ghost_Fragment:_The_Queen

For a while the only lights were the eyes of the Witches tending to the cell. The drone of the soul machines echoed through the prison. Gas billowed and ebbed into the shadows.

She entered. They scurried to their points around her, the method of their arrangement precise. "The Archon Priest has been retired, my Queen," said the Witch to her right.

Far from throne and audience she moved without theater. "Any word of Kaliks Prime?"

"We still sense something among the Anankes." This voice came from behind her. She did not turn to acknowledge it.

For the span of a brief silence she moved between the sealed cells of the Wolf nobility with her Witches in constellation around her.

"More of your brother's Crows have entered the Cauldrons of Rhea." The Witch directly before her spoke with a dry buzz. "The Nine do not approve."

She stopped a moment to study the sealed face of a cell. The cloud of her breath mingled with the slow exhalation of cryonics. "Send them one of our prizes. Something to commemorate our mutual victory."

"And which of your prisoners would you gift?"

If she paused to think it was only for an instant. "Send them Skolas."

    "A lovely gesture."

"Mm." She cocked her head as if listening for a frozen heartbeat. "And remind them this: the Crows are mine."

Yeah, I just found that. I find it interesting that the Queen has a connection to the Nine especially considering Xur's quote:

"The Awoken did not make a choice...but we did."

It's possible that there is another race descended from the far flung human colonies that were cut off from earth when the Collapse happened. The Awoken may be those who were within a certain distance of Saturn/Jupiter, and whom even tually congregated at the Reef, which is the "place that the light last touches".

So the Nine are possibly the leaders of a Neptunian/Plutonian society that is touched by the Darkness, but not consumed by it. Because they made a deal...

They talk about the 9 being Warminds that made some sort of deal, I think in the grimoire entries. We know about Rasputin, that one was mentioned on Earth and Mars.

It also says the Nine are like 8 other things that are clearly not AI Warminds

Is the Traveler one of the 9???
The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.

So the Nine are possibly the leaders of a Neptunian/Plutonian society that is touched by the Darkness, but not consumed by it. Because they made a deal...

there is mention of who they are in the grimoire. I thought they were war minds.
The Nine are survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies who made a compact with an alien force to ensure their own survival.
The Nine are deep-orbit warminds who weathered the Collapse in hardened stealth platforms.
The Nine are ancient leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan.
The Nine arrived in a mysterious transmission from the direction of the Corona-Borealis supercluster.
The Nine are the firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube.
The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.
The Nine are the aspects of the Darkness, broken by the Traveler's rebuke, working to destroy us from within.
The Nine is a viral language of pure meaning.
The Nine are the shadows left by the annihilation of a transcendent shape, burned into the weft of what is.

However, 9 lines in the grimoire entry for the Nine, and 9 different statements. Maybe the Nine are a conglomeration of 9 races/peoples?

I just had a thought. What if the Nine are the different entities of power on each planet (9 planets including Pluto) in the solar system?

So Rasputin would be described by the Warmind line. The other lines would be describing the representation of the Nine on each other planet. eh?

I'd really love to have Thorn, but I doubt I'll make this happen on my own.

What platform are you on and what level are you? Have you done a Nightfall Weekly yet?

Heroic weeklies are actually easier than the Thorn instance mission, because it's got an Epic modifier. In epic, they receive all of the pain in the ass elemental shields - the only saving grace is that they don't have the damage modifiers that gives out like 300% Void from all sources as is the case in the current Nightfall. The trick to taking out shielded enemies is to match your damage with the same shield they have. Witches have Solar shields, thus you slam them with Solar. Knights usually have Arc, so zap them with Arc. You can tell what shield they're carrying by the color when they're struck.

By the time Xyor shows up, it's pretty intense - your fireteam will likely be in consistent death recovery. It's the witches, they suck - when they show up you want to be double teaming them with well placed solar rockets without hesitation.

Any two guys with lvl 26+ gear here willing to help out? Optimally you'd have the Thorn quest ready too, so that the will to suffer equals the challenge - because it certainly seems like a pain. I'm on PSN - Tag: ExMaloBonum.

That coast area on Earth where all the washed up ships are located. The big ship (where the last antenna that you send your ghost at during the mission in that location) has a stairway in the back that leads down into the ship and eventually into a couple named Hive.

Pretty sure it was a random drop from a purple engram. Will have to look it up later when I get home but I think it's pretty good especially for PvE. Kills with it reduce grenade cool down and I can't remember the other perk. It does void damage which is the reason I'm using it and starting to learn how to use it. Some of us are working for our thorn and can't even find room in the PvP parties :p

What's a triple play, killing an enemy with melee, weapon and super in one death? I could easily see doing that. Oh I'm sorry having that done to me.

Triple Play is killing a Hunter, Warlock and a Titan as part of a Triple Down.

Wow I got pretty lucky popping it there. Kling 3 people at once isn't hard with supers, I'm a scrub and get lucky wit it here and there. But the right combination of enemies makes it super tricky and you have to luck into it.

Man, fuck these HP sponges. That plus all the "it's totally not a 1-shot mechanic... Except there's 4 of them, so they add up to be" crap is just bugging me. I mean what did they THINK was going to happen when they put in a spawn of 3 snipers, each doing 3/4+ of your HP?

Ran off and did exactly that. Now I have a machine gun called Super Good Advice. It's been an exotic filled day. Awesome Titan exotic chest piece from the engram I bought off Xur, got that helmet off Xur, and now I have my exotic MG.

Just wish Bungie would let you wear more than 1 exotic piece of armor at a time. Still don't get the reasoning behind why they made it that way. Seems really arbitrary. But now it's time to get a gyro and farm strikes for vanguard points. I have one purp, one exotic, and two blue armor pieces. Time to make that 2 purps. I'm so, SO, close to level 26 without a second purple. I know just upgrading my chest piece will give it to me. But I don't have the damn Ascendant Shard I need.>.<

Yeah, if you could have all exotics, seems like it would wind up creating a scenario with default "best" options and wind up limiting choice. By making you have to choose which of your exotics to field, theoretically diversifying choices for those lucky people who have greater than 2 exotics per type.

But it's easier to say that when I have zero purples or exotics and don't feel like I can't play with my shiny new toys.

It also allows them to basically let you get all of them through the bounty system and not have raiders/idiots screaming about people not earning yellows. If everyone can get them and you can build around them, then they are just rarer to have but not exclusive, everyone has a counter etc etc.
