The loot progression works perfectly fine in the game. Two weeks in and I'm geared up to play the raid which is pretty fast gear progression. I played lots of PVP and got factions up to rank 2 pretty quickly so I could buy purples though. But it's a way that works well. Grinding out through just PVE might make it slower, I haven't done that, but it's possible to get gear fairly easily, as long as you don't expect to hit the max level a day after you hit 20.
Sorry I dc'd halfway through your post, can you reconnect?
That hurts me because it's so true.
After the server maintenance I can barely stay on to do PVE stuff and it's driving me crazy. I'm trying to do the Queen's Wrath missions and I keep DCing just before the final boss.
Vault of Glass is not a raid. Vault of Glass is 6 people in, at best, a heroic level style dungeon, working together to overcome very well done content with twists to the gameplay but without any active trinity roles per se. Your not 10 plus people synchronize swimming around a boss with tanks and healers.
When you have 10 plus people at the least fighting one or more boss style encounters like that tank thing from Old Russia, with an epic scale and high level loot and maybe an emphasis on taking different roles in the fight, then you can call that a raid.
This is 100% semantics.
In Bungie's parlance, Vault of Glass is a "raid." There shouldn't even be an argument, because Bungie is the one defining their own game.
It's a bit like arguing that "strikes" are actually "instances" or "dungeons" or [insert any other arbitrary term here] just because you're more comfortable or familiar with that term.
Semantics, sure, but at least for someone coming from an MMO background it means to me a lot of different things.
But I suppose Bungie can call this stuff whatever they want to make it sound more like the part they are trying to fill.
Every bulletpoint you stated a raid was is in VoG. And I come from the same background and have actively done VoG.
Nice to hear that there are special game mechanics in the raid encounters. Can't wait to try the vault! Strike bosses can be fun but they all follow the same pattern of :
1- Empty a bunch of clips in the boss while dodging his attacks behind cover.
2- Clear wave of adds that spawns
3-Repeat previous 2 steps until boss is dead
I want to try starting a rumour about there being black, 'unique' engrams, but I think it might lead to my death at the hands of an exhausted hate-mob a week from now.
If you do this I'll back you up and start some shit too.
One thing I noticed while doing a Nexus Quick run last night with a random level 28 Warlock... and really something I notice happens a lot...
Do Warlocks have a power that explicitly kills you? Or do you guys just stop caring once you get a full super? I know the sun guys resurrect, but can void too? Your mortality rates are odd.

@Corehealer if you buy the PS3 version on PSN you get the PS4 version as well and your stuff will all be the same. That's what I did, as I intend to probably buy a PS4 around xmas.
Noted. I will keep this in mind too.
Still a bit of a drawback on the not being able to play with Arthil and pals front but does make me feel like maybe giving the game a go first before committing to the new console could work.
Is that any worse than forcing yourself to wait to play on the PS4 when a lot of those people may not be playing anymore? The PS3 version of the Beta was totally fine, and there are enough people playing on PS3 right now that you could hop in.

We uh. We really like explosions. See, the super makes a big explosion, and it kills dudes, and dudes we kill with our abilities, THEY explode, and they kill more things.
Boom.
Also I have friendly-fired myself to death with cluster grenades a few times, but I bet that's not what you meant. And the super targeting is a little tough, since you go 3rd-person, jump in the air, need to expose yourself during a seemingly interminable animation, the projectile arcs so you need to aim it, and you have no added damage reduction during the cast. But boy oh boy, does it kill stuff good.
Doing 20 of the 25 strikes for the Bad Juju exotic bounty in one day is...
mindnumbing.
I did all of mine in a morning. It made me love the moon strike.
Why do people use the moon for this? The Nexus on venus is much faster. You don't even need to fight most of the enemies in the strike, you can just run to the boss.
Finally off work. Can't wait to get home and play with the Suros and raiding tonight. Go-go PA All-Stars!
It is pretty good, I feel bad for anyone who doesn't grab it this week. Though I suppose for the raid I'll have to stick with my fully upgraded Vision Of Confluence.
We should be starting in about 2 hours or so. I think Volt was fireteam leader last time.
The 1.0.2 patch will go live next week, and includes several changes to the Cryptarch and Engram experience. These changes guarantee that Engrams will always decode into items at or above the quality of an engram.
Only Engrams that drop after 1.0.2 are subject to this change.
Cryptarch Changes
Cayde-6 took the Cryptarch aside and showed him a sack of doorknobs. He decoded that mystery pretty quickly.
Legendary Engrams will always produce Legendary or better quality items, including Materials or Exotics
Rare Engrams will always produce Rare or better quality items
Rare engrams will have an increased chance to produce Legendary quality items
Activity Changes
Daily Heroics, Weekly Heroics, and Vanguard: Tiger Playlist activities will include Rare and Legendary Engrams in addition to their existing rewards
Item Changes
Ascendant materials have been promoted to Legendary to closer associate them with the gear they are used to upgrade
Legendary Engram items that exist in your inventory will be demoted to Rare quality when the patch goes live, so decode them while you can. But let’s be honest--even if you don’t, we all know they were blues already...
Well we finally found time to do a Queen's bounty and my purple chestpiece (first Legendary of the game) bumped me up another Light level, so I really can't complain about this. As an event, it feels tailor-made for people who are just past 20 and wanting that bump up further. Sorry if you've powerlevelled past it and it's of no use to you, but not everyone's at that level yet.
Yeah... tbh, there's pretty much two groups of players here, and their perspectives and commentary are split based on that.
There's those of us who've dropped 40+ Hours into the game and those who haven't. Unless you have a played of over 40 and the RNG genuinely despises you. o_o
I'm not mad that I powerleveled early and zoomed past it's effectiveness, I'm disappointed that theres virtually no reason to do a new content event more than twice for anyone. Some sort of alternate reason or reward if we already have queens pieces would be a super simple solution to keep people playing it. a gigantic visible xp boost towards the next mote of light maybe?
But the carrot seems to be lacking in a lot of activities, which they are stating they are working on. DE'ing those items created a need for me to keep doing the event, and sometimes taking lower level people along who could benefit and get geared up. There isn't much reason to go on the mission if you are already level 24(26?) for the queen mission itself as you are very likely to already have purples in those slots. Time is better spent in strike playlists/crucible or farming public events.
It does seem like its meant to push up the playerbase who are just hitting endgame, however they seem to have conflicting goals with the mechanics they have set up. I am wondering if it will come back again and be arms/legs next time.
I've bitched about it enough, but I have not done one Queens mission and I do not plan on doing so. I had done a couple of bounties, but they are just pointless to me. I have a purple fusion rifle, purple helmet (2 even!) bought the gloves last week from Xur, and have a purple chestpiece I bought from the Vanguard. I have blue boots. Purple boots aren't a reward. I need shards to level my armor up, but I can't get the stupid shards any more. These events are a waste of my time and because they used to have something useful, shards, now they don't and that annoys me to no end.
Everything bungie has done has made me not want to play this game.
I'll be online at 8pm PST for anyone looking to do the Weekly strike and/or anything else to help me get enough Strange Coins for the exotic AR ya'll are talking about (PSN name is Mr_Skar531, warlock, pretty sure I hit light level 27 yesterday but don't quote me on that). I'll make sure I post this on the bungie site when I'm actually online, as I get the feeling this post will get lost in the thread.

Well then.
See? That's how you do that.
Now just add matchmaking to weeklies, etc and VoG so poor, friendless saps on shitty old consoles like myself can do them.
Interesting, I wonder if they're going to be slightly reducing the drop rate of lego engrams to coincide with them being guaranteed legendary.

Hopefully everyone that has been hoarding their purps sees this.. I know at least a few people on this board have been banking all their engrams.
dang it... Exotic rifle or helmet. dang decision. I'm leaning toward the AR...but the Bungie nerf coming on distance worries me a bit. Then again, that gun has a perk that help long distance.
I'd honestly recommend the weapon. It'll help you kill faster and get things done quicker. That is if you don't already have a decent primary.
I have the bounty for Thorn. How is it compared to that?
I'm on the last step for thorn, I should probably do that.

Today's pa comic is dumb, like no one was having fun doing the loot cave, it was a boring grindy place where you literally just pointed and shot the whole time and had zero actual skill involved. If that's fun for you man alive running water must be the greatest thing ever.
Besides if you want to grind a place, the venus war between vex and fallen remains, but don't go there because that's my fun spot and fuck you all!
I thought they nerfed all the spawn spots and timers?

I think they wanted to be more consistent with how their loot-tier works. I know that I've received a couple of exotics for decrypting legos, but I've never seen a lego (or exotic) from decrypting rares (and I've decrypted hundreds).
You can actually expect to see an exotic from a legendary engram, it's not that uncommon.. but a legendary from a rare just doesn't happen, and that's not really consistent.

They nerfed specific ones, but not all ones. Most of cosmo is still fast spawning.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Wait, so does this mean the Daily Heroic and Vanguard Tiger strikes will always result in a blue or purple engram on completion (for daily, I'm assuming just the first time)? If so, awesome.
I laughed out loud at the doorknobs part of the patch notes, well done Bungie.

Seems that way, so like as a reward for finishing now you will get an engram of at least blue quality.

They need to buff going to new places instead of nerf sitting in one place. So like for every new unique zone you go into you get a % extra chance of finding new things.
You can do this with strikes and crucible too, the longer you play the strike play list/crucible, the better your rewards are. Also for crucibile there should be a reward for being a good sport, as in most of a team leaves but one dude sticks around he should have a better shot at some loot for not being a prick.

Nice I may have to find that spot again. Is there a chest run for that area?
One thing I've noticed while playing, as long as they don't nerf the chest runs, the respawn rates for those areas are pretty good. You're always looking at an area for a chest or shooting something it seems. I was doing the one on Earth for awhlie the other day, and a public war event happened that was pretty epic. Yellow wizards and knights started spawning everywhere.

Also, assuming that the standard drop rate isn't changed, then you'd also have any you'd earned during whatever it is you'd done.
All in all, I'm optimistic about these changes. I didn't mind too much getting Blues from Purple Orbs, but it was a little frustrating. But, regardless, I'm at full purple (save for my Special Weapon) with one Gold so for me, it's now finding the proper pieces. Hell, I'm working to replace my Queen's Robe with FWC's Warlock armor just due to FWC needing the Blooms from Venus instead of Helium.
