The 3DS version will be out in just under 2 weeks on October 3rd. There is also a demo up with Mario, Link, Pikachu, Villager, and Megaman available to play.

The WiiU version sadly still does not have a launch date other than "holiday 2014". I'll throw the date in the thread title as soon as we have one.

I feel like Villager is kind of right on the cusp of being either really really good or kind of mediocre, depending on which happens first: people get good at figuring out nasty approaches Villager can do on ground opponents, or people get good at countering an overly Gyroid-reliant ground game.

The thing about Villager is that all five of her aerials are fantastic, and her off-stage game is almost Jigglypuff levels of brutal, but the forward and back air don't do well against grounded opponents and a lot of her ground moves are meh. If Villager had a faster grab (to easily force air vs. air engagements) she would be top tier for sure, but as it is it could kind of go either way. I'm optimistic, though.

Villager is going to be an absolute blast in casual play at least. Pocket working on basically everything is going to be hilarious more often than not.

I don't understand how you could possibly have this particular opinion. All of Villager's aerials come out near-instantly, the u-air and d-air last for ages with a giant hitbox, the f-air and b-air are ranged and have huge knockback if you hit point-blank, and the n-air hits all around and has no landing lag. If it wasn't for the fact that the slingshot moves usually sail over grounded targets Villager's aerials would be a contender for best in the entire game.

I never used the arrow close so maybe it doesn't suck but it just feels super easy to approach a villager horizontally in the air

neutral a should never hit someone paying attention or who isn't recovering it might be a good button but it easily loses to anything

up and down a seem really good at hitting anything above and below you and terrible for anything that approaches at an angle

"Long and narrow" isn't a problem if you're being approached from the air. You decide how high you want to jump and where in the jump to release the slingshot. It's easy to line up against an aerial target. If your hand is touching them when you fire it's a KO move.

Slingshotting someone on the ground while you're following is what's hard, because "diagonally downward" is its blind spot. That's what you use n-air for, mostly. You spin into the ground (with very little landing lag) and then follow up with a tilt or something. It's not something you need to use offensively against someone who's also in the air, usually.

For me if I'm going to buy games digitally I want to buy 100% of my games that way, and Nintendo definitely isn't a company I trust with that commitment just yet.

I own a couple of Nintendo games digitally. Mainly ones that I want to be able to switch to very easily (and Smash will probably qualify for that on both consoles). I definitely prefer physical as a general rule, though.
