Someone has a portal at the bottom of a diamond mine right next to a lot of lava. I can't make a portal in my swamp without it taking me there...Was wondering if that portal is important because I'm sad now. It's the one close to Dread and the red team's portal in the nether.
**I keep having to run all the way back to my build every time I attempt to move it. Frustrating
get your portal coordinates and divide the x and z by 8 and then build a portal at that location in the nether and youll manually link it to your location instead of the other portal. as close to y can help if there are many nearby portals (probably not the case)
glitter and/or i can help with this is you want?
Does that work even if the portal you're manually linking to is within 128 blocks of another portal?
I somehow managed to link to your guys' portal even though I could swear I was further than 128 blocks, but it'd be cool to know if you can circumvent that rule.

those are the rules they follow for which portal they connect to when multiple valid exit portals exist within whatever range they check in before generating a new portal, so yes
Think of a trap door less as a trap and more of a hatch

As a general notice, any of you on the Merida server will probably note I've been absent of late. Some family stuff directed my attention away from games (I'm gonna be an uncle!). Groovy as this is, it means I don't have time to take up the server anymore. Because I believe in passing the torch rather than letting things lie fallow, Vrtra is now the Admin for Meridia and it will continue as it has been with no service interruption.
I hope you all enjoy the map, and may Vrtra not go ~too~ mad with power.
My new build has (will have) several iron farms, and I thought I'd share the design just for fun.
The farm itself is a standard iron farm, just heavily decorated (most of which is hidden in this screenshot). However, the center is actually totally open: you can see the sky through it. (Zoomed-in shot from far below).
This iron farm actually just drops the irons golem right out the bottom, from Y=225, all the way down into this pit, directly below it in the jungle floor:
Iron golems are immune to fall damage, so we still have to kill them with lava. However! I've slightly modified this pit to make it much more player-friendly. Here's a shot from the bottom (a golem just fell in):
Note that a 3-high golem is stuck in place, but a player can easily walk out from the hopper area against the water current. Lava actually acts as a "hard-stop" for fall damage: it doesn't stop you, but any fall damage accrued in the air is set to zero. That means even the thin layer of water over the hoppers is enough to prevent death. Not only can you accidentally fall in while exploring the jungle and live, you can actually jump from the top of the iron farm (175 blocks up) into the middle of the trap and take only 2 damage, completely unarmored. Maybe I'll start using that as my new shortcut down .
It's been fairly low-pop over there, but the old PvE server started throwing warnings last night about running out of memory so I restarted it just a few minutes ago.
Wither skellies in the nether have a 2.5% drop rate for their heads, so it's just very slow. A looting 3 sword will better the odds to 5.5%, so well worth it.
Hello you wonderful people. I need a gauge of interest for a project me and some others have thought about doing.
As many of you know, Invasions were events that took place over the past few years when the SE++ server was more active. These events started small but grew into large, detailed, story-driven events. Over this past year the server has declined significantly in population, and combined with plugin incompatibilities the Invasions stopped. Unfortunately this happened just as exciting and powerful new tools were obtained and we never had a chance to fully utilize them.
I'm interested in starting an Invasion focused server and want to know how many people here would participate! Currently the plan is to have scheduled events/missions on a larger scale than you've previously seen. There will be new fancy toys and plugins we will be able to use to improve them even more, including a possible skill tree for players. Of course, this wouldn't be a basic survival server. Specific details on player construction have yet to be decided, but basically anything built is vulnerable to attacks (unlike the SE++ server where players personal builds were not harmed unless arrangements were made). The area in which things could be built is around Frostheim, and on the continent where the Invasions will take place. As the events and story progress, areas of this continent will be unlocked. Think of it like a certain amount of events happen in a province, and eventually that province is unlocked and players can rebuild the villages etc. Until the province is unlocked, they will only be able to travel there for the events. This continent has already been created and it's pretty huge...
This map features custom trees and some interesting terrain partly hand sculpted and partly made using World Painter. It will be populated with villages, cities, ruins, custom dungeons, all sorts of fun stuff to discover and fight inside of.
The server will primarily focus on:
-Invasion story progression
-Player skill progression with skill trees and other potential unlocks/rewards/abilities
-A large continent to explore and liberate from the forces of eeeeeevil
-Scheduled events
There may also be a website for listing the event times, details, etc. This will also have the story so far so any players who miss events can still know what's going on. And like the SE++ server, we don't plan on making players need to download and client side mods or anything either!
Active admins for this server would include myself, Ultimak, Hofsta, and Muddeh, with help from some others.
Completing this project may take a long time, but of course depends on how many people are interested. Agree to this post to give us an idea of how many of you would like to participate in this!
Oh and here's an ancient picture of the defenders of the original Frostheim

So how do I get more enchantments? I have a room with my enchanting book FULL of bookcases but I only have Sharpness 1 and 3 for my swords

Enchantments are random, just keep enchanting shit and eventually you'll get the one you want.
Also, weird question, but I'm building a rail system, but I have 0 idea how redstone stuff works, how to I power stuff
If you want to power Redstone rails you need to either put a Redstone torch next to the rail or a pressure plate rail On both sides. For the terminal you will want to do a button that matches up by a Redstone wire to the starting rail. It acts as both a brake to stop the cart and a booster to start it.
I write you a story
But it loses its thread

I finally tried out FtB Infinity. You haven't lived until you've flown a hang glider in Minecraft. I mean, I guess the other parts are ok, the new biomes are pretty, and I'm pretty sure I found a fallen meteor, but Hang Gliders are now #1 on my wishlist for vanilla minecraft.

Forgot about linking portals like that. Guess that's my fault for being a dum-dum. >_<

Weird - I've restarted it, try again when you get a chance.

For me work has been insanely demanding since the start of the year and its actually going to get even busier.
I long for the day of playing Minecraft while at work.
In 1.8.4 vanilla do I need optifine or some such? Or does vanilla run okay?
Have not played in like a year
Optifine probably isn't NECESSARY but it is available for 1.8.4, so you can try it with and without.
on my laptop it can make it run about 25% faster, but on my desktop it manages to be ~30% slower. Test it out and see what works for you.
