Man, I love the music in this game. It's the first MMO where I don't turn the music off after a month and play my own.
I love what they did in some HM dungeons like Copperbell/Haukke. Out of combat you get this strange muted synth theme, that seamlessly switches to an orchestral version when you enter combat. I love it. It makes it fun to listen to the music.
The biggest problem (in big airquotes there) is that there's just so much content opening up at once. I had to do some reading to figure out which was the vanilla max-level content and which was added after in the content patches. You're not meant to be able to do all the quests that pop up at 50 right away.

I think the HaukkeHM BGM was actually from a 1.0 dungeon, with combat having the orchestral variation. It does crossfade quite nicely, and I love when games do that; it's a subtle thing, but it helps the game flow in and out of battle.
Yeah, you see a handful of games that put extra effort into the audio; running tracks simultaneously and fading at key points to keep the rhythm going. Of all things, the Riddick games were great examples of this. Butcher Bay in particular did an excellent job switching between stealth and action tracks without missing a beat.
It's candy to my ears in any case. I'll play even a bad game all the way through if it has a great soundtrack. FFXIV's been an absolute treat in this regard.

Yeah it's my first time playing. So trying to soak it all in. It's good there is a lot to do. Oh well 10 more levels until I get to that point.
Given that one of the SasHM bosses has a buff that specifically affects firearms, I imagine some of the features (if not actual mechanics) for a gun class are already in place. Just a question of what role they'll play, since I've heard healer bandied about. Even as straight DPS they'd need something to distinguish themselves from bard; called shots for specific debuffs, maybe special ammo for elemental attacks? My imagination fails me to be honest, but I'll definitely be one of the people clawing at the gate when it's announced.
Considering BRD is run&gun with groupwide buffs/aoe-debuff.... gunner with a musket might work with stances to switch between kneeled stance for dps, standing up for improved mobility.
Andmaybe some piercing shots that shoot through everything in a straight line ahead of them.
I dont see how the gunner archetype can be anything but ranged dps.
Got my Secret Santa present yesterday.
My Santa (Omejikat) decided to save me a bunch of time and a ton of gil on coke, and got me enough Darksteel Ingots get a BSM master book and partway to my ARM one.

I think I've mentioned this before, but in The Secret World, assault rifles can be used as a healing weapon. You shoot a target, and a percentage of the damage you deal (modified by your healing rating) turns into HP for your defensive target. They also have an ability that slaps a debuff on the target, such that anyone who hits it, gets an amount of HP back equal to a percentage of the damage they dealt.
If that's the case, I wouldn't mind it at all. This is all speculation of course.
I'm hoping for some kind of Alchemist/Chemist healing class. Really I just want to smash potion bottle over my friend's heads. And guns are totally healing weapons as long as they shoot out magic beams; see swtor, tf2, etc.
Mechanically I wonder how it would play... The only thing really not represented from an mmo-healer standard template is HoT heavy class I guess? Buffer/debuffer? That might be wandering to far into support territory though.

And typically Chemists (healers/buffers) in FF use guns.
Though they heal/buff by chucking glass bottles at peoples faces.
edit- I could maybe see Chemists having a lot of AoE heals and such.
Oh man, if S-E wants to be really cool on how a gun heals then they should do this: Chemist chucks a bottle up over their allies and shoots it like a boss.
edit 2- Actually I see a gunner class going the way of Arcanist. Level 30 you pick from Engineer (DPS) or Chemist (heal/buff).

That is perhaps the only model of gun healing I can get behind.
...and when you are done with that; take a folding
chair to Creation and then suplex the Void.
I hope they can use the ARC/BRD gear, like the RGE/NIN's can with PGL/MNK. That way I can still be earning gear for it.
Yup, They've said they will reveal the gun class at the Tokyo Fanfest which I believe is Dec 20-21.
Things we know about the gun class so far:
1) It will be something people aren't expecting
2) Yoshi P loves James bond (007)
This has spawned all manner of speculation but seems to rule out Musketeer (since that's what people expected) and seems to point towards something like Agent or Secret Agent (which apparently existed to some degree in one of the FF Tactics games)
Also there has notably been a fair amount of focus on Gun toting NPC's as of late in the story line no doubt relating in some fashion to the upcoming class.

Perfect timing. I have a date to see Interstellar at 8:30. By the time it's over, I'll have enough time to grab a drink or two with the girl, come home and read the patch notes, and get a jumpstart on the relic quest come 2am.

That's a neat thing TSW does - you can have two targets, one offensive and one defensive. Which opens up for a bunch of abilities that do X to the offensive target and Y to the defensive target at the same time.
I rather liked the visual style of Zealot healing in WAR - all throwing weird concoctions at people.
My Santa has pounced and it turns out it was Donut Steel! He caught me leveling Fisher and not only got me a full HQ lvl 40 right side set, but also a full level 50 HQ set for when I finiish leveling complete with melds! This gets me in buisness the instant I hit 50, thanks a ton man!

As long as you don't go into the level 4 materia, DET isn't expensive at all.
I'm seeing all crit or a mix of crit and det from my searching.

Someday my friends, someday.
Job to 50 as fast as I can take it.
I MUST HAVE GUNS.
Melded stats, unless you are powerleveling, really allow for whatever you want. I went a slight more powerful yagrush with mine.
+33 pie, +23 det, +19 spell speed.
but yay for your novus!

Personally I think the gun class will be run of the mill DPS (although I do trust SE to make it different enough to hold it's own as a class/job)
but I do hold out hope that they'll make it a healing class. However the clue from Yoshi-P (the 007 callout) seems to suggest otherwise.
We shall see!
