As much as I'm digging Iron Banner, it's really a full team or bust game mode. When half of your rando team leaves it is pretty pointless to keep going.
Also what the hell pulse rifle?!? Why are you better in regular crucible?

No, they shouldn't. People should get marks and rep for staying.
If that is not sufficient addition they should be blocked from joining another crucible or IB game for twice the remaining duration of the match in which they are.

Bungie has made some decisions with really obvious negative consequences.
Know what days are the best to try and PUG a Strike? Those days that offer the "Complete a Strike without Dying" bounty. Really helps things feel epic when you start off as a 3 man squad and slowly whittle down to just you after the other guys quit.
The problem with IB is the relatively limited time of the event and sticking in a 15 minute losing battle is very costly in terms of getting to rank 3. I suck and have a lot of problem doing the bounties. Like the 10 kill without dying one that pops up every day. So I can't get a lot of rep from bounties, so I need to win. I get 30 rep per wins at the moment. Meaning to get to rank 2, I need to win like what? 34 times? I'm like halfway to rank 2 and I played around 15-20 games thusfar and turned in 3 bounties.
So really, the event is all-in-all frustrating in that I know for a fact I will unlikely be able to reach rank 3 and thus, playing it at all is futile and won't get me any character progression.

Yeah, I've really been thinking about just going fuck it and going Striker. I play Defender because I always get the Objectively Correct medal and I feel this is how I contribute the most to my team. However, I'm so tired of not having the offensive tools to kill lots of dudes.
Man, I didn't think I'd care, but this morning I had some serious losing streaks. Then, when half my team quits (all the good players) because we're down 1k, and I'm stuck with the two worst players left on my team... yeah, I quit too. There's no reason to play a match like that. This sucks.
What is this I don't even.

Striker is pretty much amazing in Blind Watch, so many tiger knees/shoulder charges from assaulting B point.
I miss the sticky grenade, but storm grip and fist of havoc more than make up for it.
It dawns on me that there's no way I'm making rank 3 this week, no matter how much I play. I'm getting maybe 2-3 bounties done a day, which means about 50 wins even after bounty turn-ins just to get to rank 2 (at 2k, 25 points a win?). And then the Rank 3 slog.
I guess I'm hoping it wasn't intended to be something you could do in the one week.
Edit: I just realized what this feels like. This feels like the times when I dropped into ELO hell in LoL.
It dawns on me that there's no way I'm making rank 3 this week, no matter how much I play. I'm getting maybe 2-3 bounties done a day, which means about 50 wins even after bounty turn-ins just to get to rank 2 (at 2k, 25 points a win?). And then the Rank 3 slog.
I guess I'm hoping it wasn't intended to be something you could do in the one week.
Edit: I just realized what this feels like. This feels like the times when I dropped into ELO hell in LoL.

I wound up in an IB match last night where our team was full for the flight in but down to four at the start. A third dropped less than a minute in. We were getting rolled, but fuck them, they aren't getting a free win by my quitting. I'll stick around to fuck up their streaks and earn my consolation Crucible rep. It doesn't last long since they are scoring constantly, but I'll just drop after and find a new game. Besides, you still can earn gear or motes after.
But yeah, that was an annoying match. Thankfully I find I'm on the winning team more often than not and that's only the second match I've had where people dropped.

Especially since 2 of the bounties for day require the three faction items and two are carry overs. Why are there so few unique bounties anyway?
Sides, what would you do next time it comes around if you get to rank 3? Just instantly buy all the stuff an not compete again? I'm thinking maybe our rep resets for the event each time. It becomes nothing more than another vendor sitting around if not.

Defender is a VERY strong class for Control. Striker feels more pro-active, and I really enjoy burst killing enemies in 3's and 4's a couple times a match.
Not for the "Don't die and kill 10 people" type bounties I find. Cause to play your "role", you end up being in the thick of it all the time and thus end up dying more. I don't mind having a piss poor K/D ratio when I have 2x more captures than everybody on the team. It's just not conductive to the side-game of getting bounties done, atleast for me.

lucked my way onto a raid group last night and got through it in about 2 hours. was fun! (although i did only the easy jobs so i'm still not sure exactly what was going on in some of those encounters)
got boots, a legendary auto rifle that is just like doctor nope only has void element, and a legendary void sniper that i haven't figured out is good or not yet.
i should go back and read the raid encounter descriptions so i can contribute more materially next time. does anyone have a good link?

They should add bounties like "Complete 10 Iron Banner matches from start to finish" with a 100 rep reward, and give out that bounty every day.
Even if it is a distribution of 2 noob bounties ("earn enough XP", "compete in X matches"), 2 moderate bounties ("100 kills with a banana") and 2 expert bounties ("100 headshots with a cucumber") then the event would feel much more doable.
But hey, because we have that many rank 2 people, we will give the "emblem, shader, class" bounties ;-)
Also: daily heroic = angry Cabal, who'd have guessed that...

PA Alt Stars, it's time to prove, once again, that we have way too much time on our hands! Ignore your significant other, quit your dumb job and grab a fucking bag of cheetos and coke (or booze, all the booze) and kick Albert The Robot in the metal marbles once again!
I'm shooting for 7 central, 5 west and 8 east again. If the time offends your sensibilities let me know and we'll figure out what time to start!
Just a general "catching up on the thread" dump of things:
1. Defenders with the bubble that gives everyone a shield are amazing in Control. I don't even bother trying to fight them anymore; you can have that point. I'll go back-cap your other one while you stand there dancing.
2. That IB video is fucked up; I mean, it's obvious that something is tuned differently in IB, but it's no where near being like their messaging implied.
3. Playing both Solo and with a PA crew last night, I didn't win a single IB match last night. Not even mad, muh bros.
4. As much as I don't want to stop playing IB, I might need to spend some time farming Coins so that I can buy a new piece of armor when Zur comes around next. Because I'm tired of playing Sunsinger, but so long as I have these glowing gloves, it seems dumb to play anything but Sunsinger. So here's hoping I can get back up to 13 coins and Zur's got something for the Voidlocks this weekend.

So my titan exotic chest piece allows me to carry two grenades. There are two separate recharge indicators. It's the best thing ever in anything . Also I got my Suros AR fully upgraded. 300 attack rating. I'm pretty happy about that.

All this video does is highlight just how absurd of a range their special has. It's actually duuuuuuuuumb.
