If you're just starting, the random hero box is very likely to give you something you don't already have, and you can get lucky and get one of the big expensive heroes for a fraction of the price.
Trying to decide between saving splinters for Nightcrawler, or spending the splinters I have on one of the 'Random Hero' boxes.
Suggestions? A few forums said the Random Hero box is a good idea when you are just starting.

Nightcrawler isn't top tier or anything but he is very fun to play and feels a lot like you'd imagine he'd play. I think they did a great translation on him to a video game so he could be a good choice. He also has a bunch of utility for blitzing through zones since his teleport is probably the best in the game if you wanted to do something like get shards from terminals or such.
I pretty much only bought random hero boxes, and sure I've got a bunch of duplicates but I've also unlocked almost every hero (about 6 short) and I'm a long way from playing with all of them yet, so in the time I level them up I could get enough splinters to get more heroes.
I understand buying one or two specific heroes at first, but after that, spam that random box.

They added more free Eternity shards for new players, so everyone retroactively gets them as well.

I am not sure if you guys have seen it yet or not but there was a hidden costume update in the patch. Break out Superior Spider Man costume if you have it and check it out. Don't want to spoil it but I may now have to pony up the money for it. Makes it my favorite Spidey costume by far now.

Jumped on TC to try out the new Red Skull Axis One-Shot and X-23. Both are pretty weak, although X-23 isn't tuned and most of her gear isn't on TC yet. The One-Shot is just a rehash of Hydra Island with a couple new mobs.

the mechanical arms are now part of the attack animations.
FYI, steam Magneto pack doesn't include the Classic Magneto skin like it says it does. Otherwise it's a great deal.

Yep, they changed the description. Originally it said "Magneto Classic (Default) Costume" and the first picture is of the classic costume so I thought that was what it came with. Still not a bad deal but I probably wouldn't have jumped on it. Anyone else think the helmet would look much better with the detailing around the face being black instead of the whole thing being white? That design decision has bothered me since seeing it introduced in the comics.

Punisher - Rachel Cole enhanced costume. Punisher 52 review is in January so most likely released then.
Venom - Toxin costume.

So far I have been cruising along with Storm but I switched to Psylocke a bit last night because I realized I have her at level 20 and if I get her to 25 then all my mans get her bonus thingy.
Maybe I should get Iron Man to 25 next and try to get lots of little bonuses. Hmm.

Are there no server-side XP boosts?
I'm leveling Cyc, he's not quite 50 yet, and with 4 other 60s and a XP boost drink, it's taking multiple hours to get another level. Seems slower than Wolverine And SG, which were my last two 60s (they were closer to 60, and I didn't have Cyc at the time).
Jumped on TC to try out the new Red Skull Axis One-Shot and X-23. Both are pretty weak, although X-23 isn't tuned and most of her gear isn't on TC yet. The One-Shot is just a rehash of Hydra Island with a couple new mobs.
I do often wonder why these One shots apparently take so long to create when 90% of the art assets are reused. This one basically uses Asgard snow field and Hydra. They added 2 new mobs whoopdee doo.
My one hope with the Punisher rework is that they give the Noir costume matching noir weapons.
I'm excited for his rework, but can't decide if I want to go flamethrower or the other one. Probably the other signature, because I hate how the flamethrower backpack always stays on.

No random drops to collect currency. Just specific goals to get specific amounts each day. Structure.
