but then we wouldn't be able to preserve an unnecessary market of middlemen
i would like to point out that literally the only cogent thing that Republicans have recommended so far as an ACA amendment is to remove state-line restrictions on insurers, thus aiding to bust up these middlemen and their kung-fu death grip monopolies (like Blue Cross)
not really concerned about 2016 right now. the clock is ticking on republicans which is why they are turning to more desperate measures(voter disenfranchisement). ohio isn't even the end game anymore. virginia is blue, georgia and NC are going blue, colorado, iowa, and somehow florida are more reliably blue than ever even though florida keeps electing skeletor
I thought the funding is for Medicaid, are you sure? If they qualify for expanded medicaid then they'd probably qualify for subsidies too
IIRC, the subsidies pretty much end at the point that the Medicaid expansion is supposed to take over.
doesn't add up. medicaid is for people who are exceptionally poor
even in a worst case scenario you should still receive full marketplace subsidy
which might not be free, but it would still be much much less than most peoples health insurance, and your standard of care would be higher than medicaid
It's based on the state requirements for getting Medicaid if they don't opt in.
The ACA says that subsidies don't start until 100% of the federal poverty level ($11670 for a single person, add $4060 for each dependent family member), and the rest I'll just take from Wikipedia:
For example, in Kansas, where only those able-bodied adults with children and with an income below 32% of the poverty line are eligible for Medicaid, those with incomes from 32% to 100% of the poverty level ($6,250 to $19,530 for a family of three) would be ineligible for both Medicaid and federal subsidies to buy insurance. If they have no children, able-bodied adults are not eligible for Medicaid in Kansas
Some sources estimate that ~6.4 million people fall in to this coverage hole in the states that opted out of the Medicaid expansion. The ACA forces all states that accept the Medicaid expansion to push their eligibility line to 138% of the Federal poverty line and they are no longer allowed to exempt childless adults. Assuming Weaver's mom doesn't have any other children at home and lives on her own, she could pretty easily fall through the coverage hole.

I'll start to believe this if a single person I vote for tomorrow wins their race. I'm not holding my breath. In 2010, everyone I voted for lost by double-digits...so maybe Nunn can keep it under that threshold?

fantasy. Florida reliably blue? get serious. Obama winning by a whisker is not reliably blue. I'll wager a lot on it being red in 2016
it went for obama both times and given the clown car of candidates the GOP is going to put forth things are looking pretty grim. especially if crist does win
I know this is one of the most useless things to complain about but oh my god I cannot wait for these campaign ads to stop.
I saw one the other day that had a scary voice over say: "We live in a dangerous world," with grainy footage of ISIS training or whatever. And then the ad went on to criticize some politician for cutting local/municipal police. I want to meet the person who made that and just shake them by the shoulders while screaming "Really?!"
Never 4Get that time Russians parachuted into a small American town and we had to fight them off without the help of the police or government. Luckily we funded some people they were fighting in the middle east and that ended the cold war so that such a thing would never happen again.Keep that in mind ISIS.

I feel bad because I don't feel like I've researched the local politics enough. I mean, I forgot I needed to switch to Democrat so I could vote in the Primaries, which would have been the real time to make a difference (IMO) since I'm basically going to vote D every time anyway. But I still feel shitty not knowing the politics. The Republican might be better! Or there might be a local 3rd party guy who stands a chance for a local position. I mean I'm going to look it up before I vote. I just feel like I should be doing it a lot more.
Also regarding a comment up there on this page, removing state line restrictions on insurers is a terrible reason because it the insurers in the states with the shittiest regulations for insurance providers would end up dominating the market, since with the cross-state thing unless it was specifically legislated otherwise (and no such provision was added to the Republican amendment suggestion) the laws that would apply would not be state to state, but only the state the insurance provider is based in.
At least that's IIRC. Someone please correct me if I've misremembered my facts from that old debate.

Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. - Lincoln
It nearly killed a grocery store that was the most profitable grocery store in southern minnesota and #1 out of the 163 in that chain
And he put them in the busiest intersectionin a state that regularly turns into a slidy hell every winter

Again, ISideWith.com is a pretty great resource for this kind of thing. They offer the option to go into much greater detail, provide more options and present the facts well.
Basically it was a set of 5 stores that were now only reasonably accsessible to people from out of town and extremely dedicated shoppers
At the grocery store they cut the staff by about 1/4 and everyone who worked their had their hours cut by half
I had my summer wages become basically nothing and traffic is now an even bigger headache because woops turns out roundabouts suck when semis go through them every ten minutes

I kinda like the Your Party Affiliation result at the end, too.
98% Green Party
97% Democrat
70% Socialist
Yep, that's about right.
And I got a chuckle out of the suggestions for House of Reps:
No Ideal Candidates
Because Sun City is dominated by Republicans, you do not side with any candidates on this district’s ballot. If you ever consider moving… Berkeley, CA has the highest concentration of voters who share your political beliefs.

Also kind of disappointed in my choices
I mean. I know 2 party system and all but
Democrat and Republican is... unfortunate
this is why I'm thankful to live in a state with a mail-in ballot system
I just
am bad at being an adult
I like going on election day
I don't know why
I just like seeing all the people
This was roughly my thought process
and finding even a list of candidates was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be??

I thought it worked alright the last time I checked it out but Ballotpedia is good too
The same mayor that nearly killed like 6 buisnesses because he decided we need to redo half the town with roundabouts
And he put them in the busiest intersectionin a state that regularly turns into a slidy hell every winter
They arent so great here
did the construction somehow block access to it?
There was two roads to it
One got blocked by the first round about, the other by a long stretch of road that was closed so they could add three round abouts to it
There was detours for each but the one for people coming from in town added ten minutes time to the commute
dang only 30
i should run for congress, but i suspect this forum essentially bars me from office for life
