My problem with Monster Hunter is that it's too slow and uninteresting. :rotate:

Soul Sacrifice is a fantastic game and while I haven't played Delta yet (gotta get back into vanilla because I want to get the Platinum before I move...but grinding, so much grinding) it's easily one of my favorite things on Vita. I really want more takes on that world.

Freedom Wars could refine a lot of stuff with a sequel, I think (adding more weapons, more monsters, etc.) thanks to the one brilliant part of its story: the compartmentalization. In that it takes place, for the most part, in a handful of Panopticons, which are the ones that we know of. Just have it take place in one entirely divorced from the status quo save for the parts that can't exactly be changed (which can be tweaked, I think or retconned into something different) and boom. Just gotta take advantage of the fact that a destroyed world shuffled into giant prison spires might not actually know what's going on with the world.

Finished Brandish earlier today. Fantastic game, one of Falcom's best. Highly, highly recommended.

Now I want to play The (MFin) Planet Buster. Shame that it wasn't remade(at least not that I know of).

But seriously, the music is FANTASTIC.

The thing that I love about Monster Hunter is the consumables and how much tactics and teamwork they can bring to fight.

The one thing that I hate most is chasing running monsters. Having to evade roaming super bosses that come to wreck your shit is fun. Chasing a fucking monster you're easily killing five different times isn't.

I was never able to get into Monster Hunter. I bought the one on the Vita, Freedom United I think. I didn't get very far in it. I think my biggest issue was the camera controls. I did a little bit of multiplayer with my brother and a friend, I didn't mind that we all had to be pretty much in the same house to do it since I used to play games on the couch with my friends all the time. It was a nice moment.

I did get really into God's Eater Burst though. That was a lot of fun and I liked the story. Soul Sacrifice was by my favorite of Monster Hunter and God's Eater Burst. It is so much fun.

I want to check out Toukiden but I need to know if it is more like Monster Hunter or Soul Sacrifice before I invest in another hunting game.

    Is the flash sale over?

I guess I have issues with all the hunting games mentioned. I don't like all the various spells with finite (though refillable) ammo Soul Sacrifice and would rather choose a weapon type and stick with it like MH. And the character animations looked goofy to me, which was a turnoff. Freedom Wars, too much RNG in the crafting and upgrade system. Monster Hunter, I got tired of all the damn items. I want to fight monsters, not arrange a junk drawer. And Toukiden is easy, too few monster types, and lots of quests with repeated monsters. 3 chapters into Toukiden and I feel like I've fought maybe 6 distinct big monster types. Monster Hunter throws 6 unique monsters at you in half the time, sometimes in one chapter.

Just picked up Soul Sacrifice Delta for less than 5 bucks

I bought the original at retail right when I first picked up my Vita, so I don't feel too bad about waiting on this one, but damn if I'm not excited to get back into this world

The only Vita games I'm even passively interested in buying right now are Toukiden (and it'd have to be DEEP sale because I'm on the fence) and Oreshika.

  • ChanceChance Registered User regular
I enjoyed what I played of Oreshika but it didn't hook me. Still - loved the presentation.

Despite my earlier reservations about content in the various Vita Monster Hunter clones (a few posts back), I can highly recommend all of the ones mentioned. There are some terrible ones, but God Eater Burst, Soul Sacrifice (Delta), Freedom Wars, and Toukiden (Kiwami) are all really solid games that are a lot of fun.

For Toukiden, I'd wait until it's heavily on sale. But 10 bucks for SSD and Freedom Wars? Pull the Trigger.

It's definitely not a game for people who like to get attached to any of their characters.

Delta actually moves a lot more toward this, with its Prestige-like specialization system (when you get to Level 100, you can reset your level to 2 again and get a sigil that gives a massive boost to a specific weapon type... you can repeat this process to get other sigils or power up a sigil by another 10% per Prestige), the breakdown between the three faction types (each faction has magic that they are good at, and each faction has a preferred "melee" magic), and much longer duration on the Weapon spells (and Weapon spell clones), and the ability to cast some utility magic while you have an active weapon (in other words, you don't have to recast your Axe spell after healing... you can heal while holding an Axe).

Throws were heavily nerfed, so it's no longer the best option to load yourself down with limited-ammo one-shot spells and unload your inventory. Also, there is a new "Two of a Single Type" spell limitation that encourages versatility in builds.

The best part is that you are never "locked into" a playstyle, either. You can always switch factions and change sigils. It's a really good system.

My favorite thing by the end of the game was severing until it was going to do a "FUCK YOU GET OFF" attack, jumping off right before it landed and re-grappling onto the spot in mid-air.

It always made me feel like a badass.

On top of that, the highest end crafting materials were from randomly given, one-time missions and if you didn't get the drop you needed? Tough shit, better hope the guys you're grouping with have the mission too, or you're stuck waiting until the game gives you a mission with that boss again.

Like I said, more RNG than Monster Hunter, the game that brought us the desire sensor. Great combat gameplay and all... but the gearing up was "fuck this I'm out".

I did see a thing about a trade mark for God Eater 2 Rage Burst in Europe. Not really sure what that means though.

Will my Soul Sacrifice data go over to Soul Sacrifice Delta or do I need to start over? It will.

I just started this up, I was planning on playing a ton of Danganronpa 2 today but Delta has a lot of awesome stuff in it. Comboing spells is incredibly fun.

I started Hotaru no Nikki/The Firefly's Diary. Very reminiscent of Limbo.

Don't use touch screen controls. The reviews weren't kidding, it's very hit-and-miss(mostly miss).

It's honestly impossible to tell from SSD. They are entirely completely different games. Despite the connection they share of killing giant things. SS is a lot faster, for one, and it's arena-focused more than MH, which has series of small maps connected that the monster can retreat to.

If you think you might be interested, give MH a shot. Just don't place any expectations on it based on SS.

Do elements not combo off of each other in Soul Sacrifice Delta? I tried to freeze an enemy and hit it with the weakness but it never froze over.

Yeah, elements should chain off of each other. Bosses are strong/weak to different elements, though. Some are really difficult to freeze (namely, Ice monsters). You are trying to detonate the Freeze with a Volt, right? It goes:
    Heat > Venom > Stone > Volt > Frost > Heat

And after achieving an Element Hell, you hit it with the element that beats the current status. So hit a lot with Frost, then after Freezing Hell, hit with a Volt attack.

Some spells are better at delivering Element than others, too. Homing and Explosive (eggs), for example, hit harder with element than Throws (50% element/50% Force).

My Vita seemingly can't play long youtube videos anymore. Anything beyond one hour runtime just doesn't seem to load at all. The wheel just keeps turning, but the video never appears. It worked fine, back when the Vita still had a youtube app. I've arranged myself with the fact that I'll have to do youtube from its browser now, but if I can't put on extralong quicklooks from GiantBomb or video versions of podcasts while I'm falling asleep - what's the point?

Am I doing it wrong? Is there still a way to stream hour+ long youtube videos on my vita? And if not, why not?

P.S. I still have 3.3 gigs of free space on my storage card, so that ain't it.

It might have something to do with Youtube itself. They just updated the site a bit not too long ago (AGAIN) at least the backend of stuff, so that might've broken things with the app that they're not going to update anymore. I thought they were going to actually disable it at some point, but I guess that hasn't happened?

So I finally beat Neptunia Re;Birth 1. True Ending! It was very satisfying.

...Until I looked up stuff about the game and found out that I have to beat it probably two more times if I want to unlock the CPU candidates. Not to mention the grind if I want the Millionaire trophy and, by extension, the Platinum.

At least I got a kickass sword for Neptune for unlocking the Coliseum and killing those asshole bear things.

You may want to try one of those YouTube time slicers? Put in a start time and end time of less than one hour, see if that loads. If so, you should be able to watch them, just nowhere close to ideally.
