@Antoshka decides to add to the pile with Contraption Maker. ...this may be the single most dangerous thing anyone's ever handed me... I'll just send this down to research and design mess around with this when I get a chance. I wonder what I could come up with...
Hmmmm... interesting... I wonder if...
*CRASH!*
...oh, what now...? Let's see here...
@Berylline adds to the mountain of stuff with Shan Gui. I've been hearing lots of good things about this one, and I'm looking forward to playing it!
If a person had a key for Star Citizen and no interest herself, would there be peoples who don't have it and might want it?
Hypothetically speaking.
Hypothetically, yup. I'll stick my hand up honestly and say I'm very interested in it, but haven't got it yet. But I'm sure I'm not the only one here.
If you're talking about the AMD code, here's how to use it:
You go to https://robertsspaceindustries.com/promotions/amdmovr and register an account and then activate the code. You'll get the ship, the hangar module (and a hangar to put your ship in in), a copy of the game (when it releases), and access to the alpha version of the dogfighting module (which is called Arena Commander).
Then you download the client (which is 30GB). If you fire it up at this point, you'll log in and be transported to your hangar. However, it'll be completely empty. Before you log in, go to the website and click "My RSI" in the far right, then click "My Hangar". Click on the Configuration button next to your Self-Land hangar. On the left you'll see all of your ships (which is just the AMD Mustang Omega). Drag it to a spot of your choosing on the right (the central spot is the best to see your ship quickly, but if you put it far away in one of the outer bays you'll have more area to look around in inside the hangar), and then hit save. Now when you launch the game you'll see your ship.
The Mustang isn't flight ready quite yet, so all you can do is walk around and look at it. You can press F at any "use" prompt, including one near the side of the nose to get in and look at the inside of the cockpit. Insert changes from first to third person.
Since your ship isn't available for Arena Commander, the game lets you use a different ship. For Mustang owners, you'll get to fly the 300i, which is basically a fancy space BMW. You can dogfight, shoot drones, race, or just do freeflight to get used to the controls. This week all of the available ships can be flown in Arena Commander regardless of which ship you own though, so now is a good time to check it out.
While the AMD package comes with the full game after release, as well as a ship and access to the Arena Commander alpha, it doesn't come with access to the beta of the main game itself. For that you'd need a different package. Cheapest one is the Aurora MR Plus I think, at $40 (which gets you an Aurora MR ship as well as beta access).
Thanks @destroyah87! I haven't played a racing destruction game like this in ages, I noticed quite a few people here also own it, do you guys ever play? It looks like it supports large multiplayer, game page says up to 4 teams, but not how many are on each team.
Aaaaaand as I write this post I get a pop-up about another gift
Looks like some more co-op fun in my future, I'd make a pun like in your gift message but I fear it would be a bit Forced.
Tutorial "campaign" (two / three missions*) complete.
The writing is ... mostly okay. There are a couple typos which grate against my grammar Nazi eyes, but eh - translation issues, I'm guessing. The graphics are nothing special - in the tutorial, you're fighting in an almost entirely desert palate with a little bit of cliffside / rough rocks - but they're servicable. It's easy, when controlling air units, to accidentally issue a move order instead of a "Actually, I'd like to command the tank" order.
That being said, the tutorial, in just those couple of missions, already forces you to take advantage of the strengths and weaknesses of your units - recon "helicopters," scout buggies, infantry, artillery, support, and tanks to make your primary (required) and secondary (optional) goals. Tanks hit like a ton of bricks and can take a pounding, but they can only move 2 squares per action point (each unit gets 2 per turn), artillery can take away an action point from an opponent's unit, units can repair and rearm if next to a support crawler, etc.
EDIT: If they can keep this up, they'll have a solid strategy game on their hands.
So are any of you fine folks doing Extra Life streaming this year? I know it's soon and since there's a bit of leeway with how you can do the hours (24 in total, but you are allowed to break it up into chunks as long as you do them all, which lets more people get involved), and I know how this place loves excuses to actually play the games they own.

Yeah actually, I'm doing it again this year. Not planning on breaking my $2001 from last year (though anything is possible with you crazy people  ). I haven't picked the date when I'm doing it but it will probably be on the 25th of October with everyone else. My only issue is that I don't have the funds that I did this time last year to buy a bunch of discounted give-away games for contests. So I might try to find a few small things to give out here or there but there won't be the "any game on steam" give away or anything like that. I'll make a post here and in the VG Stream thread sometime later this week with more details.
Did not expect Evil Within to start as...over the top as it does. Can really see the Resident Evil DNA here. Guess that's part of just not keeping track of the game much wanting to go in unspoiled. Was expecting something a bit slower.
I was considering doing Extra Life, but it'd have to be in chunks as I know my internet connection tends to slow to a crawl as to be almost nonexistent at a certain time each night, so my stream would die.
edit: Unless I can stream some games of Candy Crush from my phone, or something.
Stream done for a Monday. I will read the steam thread later... If you stopped by, I hope you enjoyed my stream...

I want to thank you people here for being good people, and consistently restoring my faith in humanity.
Today, my wife found out that a friend and co-worker of hers was attacked and left for dead; he probably won't survive the night. I met him only once, and he was a friendly, wonderful human being. There is currently no police report on his attack to our current knowledge; nothing is being done to discover what was done to him, possibly because they have so little to go on. This news made me angry, it made me depressed, but most of all it made me need to come see you fine folks. Now I know that it may seem strange that people gifting each other games would lift my spirits even slightly, but it reminds me of all the charitable work, all the good deeds and good will that you all dispense on a daily, weekly, monthly and even yearly basis.
Thank you for being good people. The world sorely needs you.

This is one of those times where you want to say something that will make it better, but there isn't really anything that can do that. I'm really sorry to hear this news and I will keep him in my thoughts and hope that some semblance of a miracle occurs and he makes it through.
Also, tomorrow and for the rest of the week - I'm going to try to go out of my way to do something for someone each day (or more if the opportunity presents itself) at my place of employment, even if it's something simple like putting in a good word with their manager for a job well done or buying them a coffee. Just to try to spread some good vibes out there.
Drowning in games is the best kind of drowning. I don't know what Fight The Dragon is, but I know @Broncbuster has good taste and is a classy gent so I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Thank you!
So, I'm playing Sleeping Dogs right now, with all DLC (because a friend of mine got it for me when there was that 89% off glitch a few Christmas' back), so I'm playing it with that DLC. And there's a lot of crazy costume stuff - various tattoos, dressed up like other Square Enix characters, etc.
One of those is to play as a bronze statue. So of course, you know what I'm doing.
This is amusing me far more than it should, and of course in my head it's a literal bronze statue which has come to life which is running around and doing everything.

And with that, I think I'm going to squeeze my wife and furkids a little tighter when I get home.
I loaded up RE4 just to briefly check out to get in the spirit of the Evil Within launch, and find myself getting entranced by this game all over again. Man, what a classic.
Alien Isolation has solid reviews and I thought Creative Assembly wouldn't be able to make a smooth transition from strategy games to survival horror. Pleasant surprise for change.

Just finished Waking Mars. Very neat game indeed. Small in that it only took me 3 1/2 hours. Rather strange puzzle mechanic but it was really compelling...
...until the ending anyways. I even got the extra power ending for getting 4/5 stars in most of the areas. It just seemed really empty with no real reward for putting in that extra work. Kind of a shame. The soundtrack was really good, and the art was neat, concept was interesting enough to want me to keep going, A.R.T. was funny, but that ending... Kind of spoiled me on it.
Edit - After googlin' turns out there was another option instead of walking to base on the surface to getting an alternate ending. It's a little better, has more of an opened unexplained end to it
in that the ice core is actually a ship that the sentients take you on to somewhere unknown instead of a plant creation machine like in Total Recall. Where are you going? Why/how are you being suspended in reanimation crystals? Who the hell are these things and why are they taking you with them? WHO KNOWS?!
But all in all not really much better than the super bland regular ending of going back to base.
Looks like the old ini tweaks for Borderlands 2 (which could help with texture streaming) all work with Pre Sequel. Same with the No launcher/start up videos

I was just thinking similarly about the last three months or so of mine.

The kindness and generosity, in every sense, in this thread is a beacon of light in dark times. I'm so very proud to be associated with you guys.
@Kalnaur, please update us when you hear anything more about his condition. I'll keep him in my thoughts.
So apparently yesterday was "Giftbomb the Cats" day. Ten total games, all because the Gift-A-Pult broke down and Steam won't take my monies. (Pink Skull has it right when she talks about the Steam app- that thing is useless for anything but browsing the catalog. I don't want to try buying through that because who knows what that might do to my Steam problems already...)
But anyways, I got woken up to go carry my niece up from her crib in the basement, and while I'm up, I figured I may as well check in with you guys to see what was going on. Hmmm... guess nothing hap- hold it, there's another gaping hole in the ceiling... you guys, sheesh...
@Destroyah87 hits me with Forced. Eleven games, all because I can't fire back. (Steam's still not letting me buy things yet...)
You know, this thread really is an indication of how awesome people can be to other people, even those who they hardly know beyond a screenname. I mean, good grief, it's only been about five months since I set foot in the thread and I feel like I've known you guys for longer than that. I've gifted, and been gifted- good grief, I think I bought maybe fifteen games in my entire collection, and another twenty are F2P MMOs. That leaves over a hundred games in five months. Blazes, I've dropped entire Steam cards worth of stuff on you guys simply because it feels awesome to make a bad day better and a good day great with a free game.
If I could buy out wishlists, you darn well know I'd do it, if only to see your reactions when you got the notifications. Simply because you guys are a sheer force for awesome. If I could spend enough to get Pink Skull and Isy to 2,000 games each, I'd do it, for the same reason. I honestly didn't know what I was getting into when I first posted here.
You guys are crazy, awesome, and crazy awesome. Keep doing that, keep being that.
I'm going to go back to bed. I'll see if I can launch at least those extra copies of Borderlands tonight, and maybe figure out these speaking programs.
You guys keep doing what you're doing. Things are better because you do.
Huge thanks to @The Pink Skull who saw fit to gift me her Star Citizen code! I'm blown away, really. Thank you so much!
Now, if only I can find the bit on the pretty but needlessly obtuse RSI website that actually says "you own this game"...
I should note that I decided to do what I did with Elite: Dangerous and didn't use Jazz, or any variation thereof, for my in-game character name. "Jazz" itself is always taken because it was frankly a poor choice of handle back in the day; having the "MX5" suffix like on my Steam handle (yes, I used to own a Mazda MX-5/Miata and one day I'd like another one) never fits in-character in a game world, so I looked elsewhere when I did all my signing-up for Elite (which was ages ago now).
I looked to a certain favourite character from a certain favourite franchise who may or may not currently be my avatar right here. And found her second-game-name unused, as I've just found in Star Citizen as well, amazingly. Which also suits my preference for having a female protagonist, when a game gives me the choice.
So in both games you'll find me as Tali'Zorah vas Normandy.
I'm not sure if this is nerd cred or sigh-inducing; probably both. And I'm aware that in MMO-ish games it could easily lead to unwanted attention. But, hey, what the hell, right?
Anyway.
Thanks again, Pixie, you are a classy lady of the highest order. My mind is blown, again. you; all of you.

There's also the minor detail that many of those backing/playing Star Citizen are likely to be Wing Commander fans from of old, and so calling yourself "Jazz" would have them lining up around the block to punch you in the face.

I can has cheezburger, yes?

There's also the minor detail that many of those backing/playing Star Citizen are likely to be Wing Commander fans from of old, and so calling yourself "Jazz" would have them lining up around the block to punch you in the face.

And I went to archive the stream today, and found it flagged for copyright. I looked into it, the background music is copyrighted. So, I lost a lot of last nights broadcast. I have turned off music for future broadcast, but twitch and youtube need to get on this. I am just...
STEAMed.. and not in a good way.
Thank you to @broncbuster and @botznoy for stopping by last night.
I was going to tell you good luck, but you are done.
EDIT: Now with less accidental stupidity!
