Holy shit Experiment 112 is on Steam. One of those weird ass old games I forgot existed. You have control of cameras and have to guide the main character around and help them not get killed. I remember being super interested in it before but forgot the title. Debuting at half off too. I can't imagine it's held up well (didn't exactly set the world on fire on release) but unique enough I kind of am curious.
Holy god damn, this game. I was on an adventure games kick a while back (moreso than usual) and this seemed like a neat twist on the formula. Jumping around to various cameras on the ship, controlling mechanical bits, calling up a terminal at any time to access records; there was a real nice sense that you were working remotely and could only interact so much with the environment. The magic died a bit when the character started giving me explicit instructions on how to guide her - rather than exercise any kind of autonomy - but the interface was slick. Reminded me of this old Infocom text game, where you're stuck in stasis and can only act through a series of robots, each of whom sees their surroundings differently.
Certainly didn't expect to see this again. Never did finish it, but five bucks might just be in my impulse range.
That Infocom game was called Suspended. You were in suspended animation, and had control of five robots, one for each of the five senses. You had to use them in conjunction to figure out puzzles which revolved around a disaster in the facility. It came with a map of the facility and playing pieces for each robot so you could keep track of their locations. That game was fucking super hard. An amazing premise and maybe I could handle such a thing now, but at the time my teenaged brain just said fuck it.
Hah, that was it. I remember you start out with the vision robot disabled, so I had to sort of fumble around with the other four. There was one bot that reported everything in abstract poetry, and I was so confused I accidentally opened my own cryotube, causing an early game over.
God those games kicked my ass. One day I'll feel masochistic enough to track down the collection again.
That concept sounds like it'd be great to revisit with more modern mechanics behind it.
Actually... funny story. That was the first movie I ever saw, as far as I know. I was 3 or 4 years old, my parents went to see it at the drive-in theater (fuck you, you young whippersnappers, we had drive-ins back in my day). I was supposed to be sleeping in the back of the car.
I was not sleeping.
Nor did I sleep again for many days. At least, not without nightmares. Weeks of nightmares.
Now - I love it. One of my favorite movies ever. Hmmm.... correlation between this event and my current fascination with people-eating simulators? Might have to consider this.

Sometimes when I was bored at Angels games, I'd leave the seating area and go to where I could see the local drive-in and watch whatever was playing.

I knew I liked you.
When I lived in Salt Lake, we still had a functioning drive-in (on Redwood Road). I assume it's still running. It was when I left in 2011. Saw quite a few movies there; so glad I did, that really is an experience that can't be properly replicated.
For those of you terrified of the Depth talk because SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARKS SUCK MY DICK SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKS.... ahem..... There is this rather serene diving game I was alerted to. No sharks, no oxygen limit, just diving in the most relaxing environments with friends or alone. http://store.steampowered.com/app/251890/

Damn, that looks pretty awesome too.
Of course, not as awesome as Depth. But still pretty awesome.

I grew up with a drive-in practically in my back yard (in Poughkeepsie, New York) and only found out that there's only like, 35 operating drive-ins in the US when I was around 13. It was really weird to find something like that out, since it was such a staple of my childhood to drive over to the drive-in on summer Saturday nights to catch two movies for less than the price of one at the local theatre. Really, why did they die out? I just don't get it.

How? How do you people play games like this? I just... man. I can't take the suspense. Stopped a couple minutes ago and I can still feel my heart racing.
I'm never gonna get through this thing...
This does not bode well. I'm like you in this way - I get too caught up in the moment. This isn't just for horror either, it's for all mediums that elicit a strong emotional response (i.e.: any moments involving Bob in Twin Peaks, the final scenes of Six Feet Under, more books than I can count). I can't distance myself with what I'm digesting. Sometimes that's fantastic because it gives me an enormous high as a pay-off for the commitment, but other times it can really drag you down into terrifying and sorrowful places and you can't settle yourself down even if you turn it off and walk away for abit.
I watched Alien last night as a refresher. I hope the sound design isn't as good as a movie made 35 years ago, but I highly doubt it

The sound design is a big part of the heart-in-my-throat aspect...
Just beat Sleeping Dogs in my massive effort to reduce my backlog. My spoiler free thoughts:
It was good, very good. The extra 'EXP GAIN' missions were well done and handled with a gravitas not seen in normal open world games. With that said, I would have preferred more hand to hand combat, more hand to hand combat options a la Batman: Arkham City (varied enemy types that counter your counters). But overall, very enjoyable. Also, goddamn, can Wei Shen wear a suit.
After that I finished Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - hands down one of the best if not the best games I've ever played. Also the saddest. Right in the feels.
Top five games I've ever played, in no particular order: XCOM UFO Defense, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (if you were alive and gaming when this came out you know what I'm talking about), Tex Murphy: Pandora Directive, Final Fantasy 3 (again, SNES nostalgia here), and finally - Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
Speaking of upcoming horror games, are there any news about Routine? I remember watching the trailer/teaser a long time ago and it looked very interesting. I think it also got greenlit pretty fast.

Is Deadcore good? It looks cool. Also the new Civ game, is it worth the $50?

This is probably of interest to any Talisman: Digital Edition players in the thread. The Dungeon expansion has just released for the game. I haven't had a chance to fire it up yet but it's being met with high praise from players.
Fun Fact: the original board game was very nearly my downfall in my freshman year in college (late 80s). Played that game and all it's expansions until 2AM nearly every night. Only game I ever intentionally destroyed a component of. Damnable Warp Belt.
That game was great! I rented it on a lark one night when looking for some other, more popular Wii title, not expecting anything. Then I played it for the next several days straight and went back to renew it, relating to the clerk how weirdly good I found it. I remember Tycho talking about diving really being in search of the warbling sea witch Westenra.

Theres an arrow to the knee reference in Mars: War Logs.
As tempting as it is, unfortunately I cannot go outside and burn the disc since I didn't buy a physical version.
I would say no. I have a list of small/medium stuff I don't like about it, which taken together makes me just not like it much at all. I was really excited leading up to the release and now I doubt I'll launch it again.

The minute a giant anything flashes across the screen, I'm out, man.
Shitting my pants and taking my ball and going home.

SOMA? Hmm. Oh, Google: a moment of your time?
... Ok, SOMA sounds/looks cool. I'll have to keep an eye on that game.

If you liked the previous Tex Murphy games, you'll love this one. If you were looking for an update to modern gaming then you're gonna be upset.
That being said, it's vintage Tex with all that promises. Clunky, unintuitive controls with hilarious performances.
New civ is worth $50.

Dat Magu Tapah, tho.
Explored a sunken ship. Took pictures of fishies. Swam with sharks (of the acceptably non-aggressive sort). Found a rubber ducky.
World of Diving: recommended for a chillin' good time. :thumbs-up:
Has anyone done group games at all? I always wanted to do that with Civ 5 but was never able to get a group.

Reading all your posts, and then that, my backside targeted and emitted "Trousers Aquired!"
I'll check out world of diving though.
Also, Super thanks to @Halfazedninja for Nimble Quest! I am conga line enough to take it on!
