I stumbled onto a group entering VoG while I was farming Spirit Blooms. I had no idea what they were doing, having never done anything related to it. Wound up helping them open it by killing enemies and picking up downed guys so they threw me an invite. We did the Templar fight from a pillar on the outskirts of the left side of the room which worked great. I got as far as the third chest before I had to bail. Got three energy, two shards and I think a coin from the chests so blah, but the shards were enough for me to upgrade my vestments. I guess I can actually raid! Yay!
Do lower level weapons scale up during Crucible matches?
Landed the Thorn bounty yesterday. Got to the 'get 500 points in PvP' step and its been a bear to make progress. While I do have a void fusion rifle, rocket launcher, LMG, and void grenades, I picked up a level 16 fusion shotgun from the vendor. Hoping the shotgun will be more reliable than the cheesy feel of getting kills with the fusion rifle.
Imagine what "cheese' could exist if someone tried to copy Velveeta.

Congrats on your first walk into VoG being an exploit!
But no, seriously, you should do VoG because it's super fun and awesome. Except hard mode because fuck hard mode.
So I absolutely HAVE to finish the story mode otherwise Mars wont unlock for me? My Hunter is 25 and still hasn't passed Venus.
Why didn't you use the Story missions to level? It's good exp and rewards first time you do it on a character, assuming you don't level too far beyond the requirements.

Not sure about that Templar thing being an exploit. It is super cheesey but it seems fairly easy to avoid by just making those side platforms unreachable by jumps.
Though this could be the reason why there is that mythical "teleport blocking" chest. Which seems a fairish trade off.

The literal definition of an exploit is taking advantage of a system for gain, right? You're going against the intended way to fight. Whether it's a malicious exploit or not isn't what I'm saying, but it most certainly is exploiting the intended encounter. To be fair, everything can be exploited in this game simply by design and chosen genre of the game. I'm also not saying it's wrong, I'm merely saying what it is. I just wouldn't want to exploit the end game content I guess, because I've been asked a few times if I wanted to try to the atheon exploit at a hard mode save and straight up said no.

I agree, it's not for everyone. There's nothing wrong with using the exploits, but for my pride's sake I'd like to do it properly.

I understand the issue but there are a number of things that make me think this may have been intentional. The cleanse mechanic on the shield pretty much goes completely unused in the "real" way to fight the Templar. (If you need to use it you're already well down the road to a wipe.) The extra teleport blocking chest for doing it the "real" way. The way this echoes the Atheon fight's grouping up under the shield mechanic.
I'm not positive it's intended but I am also nowhere near certain it is unintentional either.
So pumped! Got a group on. Destiny LFG for VoG last night. Only 1 person had done it before. We get to Aethon in 2.5 hours. Wiping on Templar only once. I got two pieces of raid gear. Not happy about the bonuses or stats on one of them. But I'll take it!
Wait, so you don't have to be in the Relic bubble to do the extra damage Atheon?
This. Changes. Everything.
Nope, for that 30 seconds it's bonus damage time.
Getting on the center platform and huddling in the bubble does let you ignore petty little things like "Damage" and "Sight Lines" and what not.
Well yeah, but I can save precious time by not having to move to the middle. Plus my klutzy self won't miss the jump back out and fall in the hole and/or get instagibbed by supplicants on the way back out of the middle.

Having done that fight legitimately and then using the 'exploit', I will take the cheesey way every damn time. If it's a matter of bragging or whatever doing it once the 'right' way will suffice (same goes for Nightfalls or Weeklies). I don't see the need to bend over backwards to do that crazy fight perfectly every time (especially when the Aetheon fight requires even more teamwork to do right). Exploit also implies the game wasn't intended to be played that way, but really there never was a 'right' way to do these fights. Bungie made them and the community had to figure it out from there. It could be we were all doing it wrong and the 'exploit' is the actual trick to completing it in a timely fashion (with blocking his teleports being the 'pro' way to do it).
Wait, so you don't have to be in the Relic bubble to do the extra damage Atheon?

BTW. In the bubble on his weak spot, icebreaker with only 1 damage upgrade does over 10k damage a shot. at level 29.
This Saturday we thought we were wiping we had at least 1 dead in the portals, came back from inside the portal, another dead outside. we went to the center area and saw the guy had about 20-30% life still...i figured what the hell, and icebreakered the bastard to death in 6 shots.
The Icebreaker is going to make me all of my characters snipers, I swear to the Nine. In PVE at least.
It is so...effective/evil/gamebreaking.
I know that Legendary items are supposed to be the epitome/ideal of a weapon type and that exotics are supposed to bend reality in one way or another, but I can't help but feel that Icebreaker's effects aren't quite what Bungie intended. It is a gun that could kill a world.
But I'm going to enjoy it while it's broken. Daddy needs him some shards.
Grinded out my last vanguard purple over the weekend. Now just to get everything upgraded. Been hunting filaments on the moon like its going out of style. One more upgrade should put me into 27. Still going to keep grinding that vanguard to get some Leg weapons, because I'll be damned if the RNG is going to grace me with anything.

I think the knee-jerk reaction from a lot of people will be defensive. You potentially just called a lot of people "exploiters," and, in my experience, people don't like being called names or labelled. I don't think they're right to get upset if they do, but, objectively, I can understand why they would react in that direction.
I have more fun completing the encounters in VoG without "exploits" or "cheese" or however you want to call it, just because it tends to require more focus and teamwork (which are some of the reasons I'm there).
I will shamelessly "exploit" and "cheese" the Nightfall/Weekly, however. Mostly because I tend to solo those things, and there isn't much margin for error when you're on your own. I see that as a different kind of challenge.

Once I got Bad Juju's special ability, it became fairly good in PVE. It will mow down mobs of low levels without breaking rhythm due to it's magical refilling on kill magazine. When you go up against a boss or a yellow though, it's not quite as good. It's low clip size hampers it and it still bucks a little too much to reliably put all three bullets on a weak spot.
It's good, but not great. I still probably wouldn't use it in PVP. My engram Shadow Price with Third Eye still shines above all there. Even over my Super POX VLO (which was/is my primary PVE gun while I'm not leveling up others).

Yeah I got two legendary low impact fast ROF auto rifles within an hour of each other last week. Praise RNGesus!
To be fair, we wiped more on setting up/actually killing the Templar from falling/not cleansing far more than we did during the fight leading to that point. YMMV on which is more efficient. I feel that if they wanted those pillars to be inaccessible, they would have made them so. It's not like jumping to them is a chore. They're all well within double-jump distance.

I just got a level 20 blue auto rifle from strikes I had never seen the "brand" before. Full RoF bar, super low impact. It is hilariously bad. I used it to do like a patrol mission to hit Vanguard 3 and by the end of it I was ready to disassemble it.
Of course, rank 3 vanguard gave me a legendary Scout Rifle with magazine ammo on kill so that'll do just fine.

Edit:
They're decoherent engrams or above that dropped while you were in combat that you didn't pick up. They get sent to the postmaster for later.
I was rank 2 when I got it, sounds like everyone else was as well.
its items that dropped during patrol/missions/etc that you didn't pick up. anything blue or higher gets sent to the postmaster for you retrieve.
Thanks! That's very friendly of the game to do.
